For this episode, I made the decision to bring the E30 M3 restoration I have been filming over the past few months onto Restore It. To those of you who said keep it on Restore It, I think you were right.
The BMW 1M Coupe video is delayed.
So this is Antonio's M3, He's a subscriber of mine and was kind enough to give me his M3 to work on so I could make videos about it and work on it at my own time. It's a win, win situation. I get to make content on an M3, you guys get more content and Antonio's M3 gets some attention.
The car started life in California and made its way to Kentucky in 2001. It then finally made its way over to Spain in 2016.
In this episode, I introduce you to the car and show you the areas that need work. The entire car needs repainting and a lot of the underside needs looking at. The car does run well but leaks oil from the engine.
Before we dismantled it ready for paint, we wanted to sort out two issues that would be easier to fix with everything still attached and plugged in.
The first of which was a window wiper issue. The wipers would not return to their resting position. A problem we thought would be solved by looking in the motor. It turned out this wasn't the issue but I left the footage in there anyway as it shows you how to get to motor and open it up. We quickly find out the real issue after reinstalling the motor.
The second issue was regarding the central locking system. The driver door would not lock the passenger door or boot lid but would open if the key was turned in either of those locks.
The first thing we tried was rebuilding the lock to make sure it was all working as it should. This didn't fix the issue so we had a closer look at the other side and discovered a missing piece as the culprit.
Once those two issues were fixed Antonio started to remove the fluids and a few other surface parts in the beautiful Spanish weather before it was rolled into the workshop where the rest of the disassembly will take place.
Join us next episode when we remove everything from the car to get it ready for painting.
Thanks for watching! Subscribe with the bell on to see this car back to the factory condition.

This generation of BMW M is my personal favorite
Same here :)
I like the E46 better in my opinion but the E30 has more nostalgic value for most people
My dream car!! Finally someone show me behind the scenes of it.
Glad to be of service Mk!
Nice to see that there are still people that repair parts instead of buying new ones
never clicked so fast
Cheers lad!
me too
Cant wait for these vids
So much to come :)
Oh man as soon as I saw that thumbnail I stopped what I was doing. The E30 M3 was and still is among the most beautiful machines made by man.
Cheers Dan! It really is a piece of art!
So hyped for this M3 to be running again ! So glad for you to have the chance to touch such a beautiful car ! Have fun !
Me too Yann! I've already seen it fully repainted and I am in owe at how good it looks. Can't wait to share it with you. Thanks!
@@RestoreIt Sure, and for the 325i sedan and Touring, is there any improvement ? New piece retored ? The chassis of the sedan is good ?
The e30 M3 is The definition of car porn. Will try yo get as close as posible with My 325 coupe. You're lucky man! Happy for You!
Thanks Mauricio! Good luck with the rep :D
i know it is kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to stream new movies online ?
@Melvin Royal Lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Ignacio Mitchell Yea, I have been watching on flixzone for months myself =)
@Ignacio Mitchell thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it !!
Why 4 dislikes? What's not to like about Restore It?
I duno man :D Thank though.
Jelousy :D
the monotone commentary probably? very good and informative content otherwise i think
Maybe some 2jz owners? 😁
@@miepmaster25 i kinda like his commentary... very easy on the ears
Nice methodical fault finding with the central locking conundrum chaps - and great fix without having to throw expensive new parts at the issue - great to watch - thank you for sharing!
Those of us here in Kentucky may slightly disagree with you about always being in hit warm weather, lol. Plenty of wet/cold climate here and plenty of rust. Love the channel man! You are doing amazing !
So glad that you're working on more of these rare cars knowing the level of completeness you put into your work. I would love to see an air cooled Porsche project one day.
Such a cool classic car! I am looking forward to seeing it's insides up close and personal. And then seeing them again all shiny!
Always clamp sheet when drilling, it's so easy to catch on the drill and slice you fingers. I've seen a 1ft square sheet spinning on a pillar drill. With my mate trying to work out how to get close enough to kill the power
I learned the hard way :D
Longest I’ve ever had a car (well, almost) was my E30 M3. Just over 5 years. I spent tonnes of money on just making it perfect. I paid £4000 for it when nobody wanted them and 5 years later really struggled to sell it for £16000. I probably spent the best part of £18k on it.
At the same time, my brother bought a H reg 215hp one in white with the craziest salmon coloured insert trim!
We sold that on to a guy called Wayne Howlett who was like an M3 sales guy.
I later found my brother a black, 1 of 50 UK supplied Sport Evolution 2.5. The old retired guy had it for 15 years and was toying between selling that or his yellow 968 Clusport; he sold the M3.
Needed a full paint job and suspension etc which we did, but I think the engine was low on power and it couldn’t pull away from my black 200hp! Plus it smoked a bit....
Sold for £30k to a car collector who has the official touring car in his garage!! He sent us a pic of both once he’d driven home....he wasn’t short of a few quid.
Now, that cars probably £100k. Who on earth would have known....
Great to have another flawless project to watch.
Looking forward to it
Looking forward to this series !
What a nice car, dude!! I wish we have these in Brazil, but they are very rare and very expensive.... I'm waiting to see your magic in this beauty!! Congrats, dude, you're very talented!! Cheers from Sao Paulo, Brazil
Thanks Thiago!!
Wow!!!
Good work mate!!!
A red e30 M3 with 8 thousand miles on the clock, was recently sold for $250,000 USD, in the States. You're refining automotive gold. Cheers.❤
Thanks, really excited to see the future episodes.
This is going to be awesome!!! I've been hoping for this. I have an E30 M3 of my own.
Cheers Mike! Congrats on having one of these. I really want to own one as well!

I'm a jdm car guy, but the e30 m3 is one of the few european cars I'd own. Together with a lotus elise, lancia delta and a mercedes 190e. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Great car!!! Enjoy it!
Can't wait to watch !
Cheer Brian, I hope you enjoy it mate.
I like the BMW E30 and I like your videos, I don’t understand anything because I live in another country. I don’t know everything about this model yet, but I’m trying to understand a lot along the way, in general I’d like to say keep up the good work
Thanks dude, I appreciate you still watching :)
I'm fine with this video cause I been waiting for you to drop a nice video like this.
Glad to hear it Steel!
Cheers man! 😊 this was a pleasant surprise.
Cheers Liam!
@@RestoreIt you're welcome! 😁
Well done on saving a true 80s icon. Looking forward to further videos. Subscribed!
Cool to see you get the chance to wrench on a m3, that s14 is a special engine for sure.
Its starting to look like my shop now lol. 4 or 5 cars and all of them WIP
Cheers Zach, I thought so too. What a car. What a mess of parts my house is :)
fantastic please keep up the good work
Finally, it seems coincidence but was thinking of you today. Great.
Thanks Coolissim... Always good to see you in the comments. Thanks for thinking of me :)
Are you making enough money from RUclips and your sponsors to allow you to do this full-time? If so, congrats on the dream job.
The greatest BMW ever made
Beautiful car

You are surely a mad lad. How many cars do you even have? Really living the dream, making me somewaht envious. Rad job as per usual. Keep doing you!
It is a bit mad isn't it... But! the more projects I have on the go, the more videos I can make. Thanks Beeble!
Дружище приветствую. Очень рад новому выпуску, так тут ещё и М-серия, крутой проект будет! Жду следующее выпуски и как всегда лайк, за труды и удачи в работе!
@Restore It Yesssss cant wait for more!!!
Thanks Lester! Loads more to come.
Great video man! Gracias!
Thanks Antonio!
Dude is smart. I'd defiantly leave mine (if I had one) with you to wrench on. Stay well.
Thanks for great videos!!
Thanks for watching Shawn!
Love this versión oficial m3. Congratulation.
Great car to restore 💪
Something about the locking mechanism in my experience.
There are 2 types of locking in these cars, lock and double lock.
The microswitch you fixed the piece for is for the double lock feature. But the driver side door has to be able to regular lock as well.
When you push down the cylinder 45 degrees, the cylinder pushes down on the electric lock actuator, similar to you pushing down on the button. This is regular lock.
Then another 45 degrees the cylinder will twist on itself with that big spring on the outside, and press that microswitch. This is double lock.
Double lock for other doors is electric, but for the drivers door is mechanical, meaning the lock will have to stay in the 90 degree position. If not, then someone can break the glass and pull the button and the whole car will unlock.
Just thought you might use the experience.
Love your content by the way.
Same on my UK '87 car- the microswitch on mine is only there to opererate the deadlocks.
Love it. Is he a brother from another mother? Seems like you have the same attention to detail...
Entertaining as always, looking forward to the next one.
Thanks Isiah! Well, he's Spanish but lives in the UK and I'm English and live in Spain. So maybe we just swapped?! But he's been watching my videos for a while, we'll say he got it from me ;) Cheers dude, thanks for watching.
I can't wait for more :D
Lots more to come :)
Un M3 E30 completamente original matriculado en España como histórico? Un diamante en bruto, suerte con la restauración.
That's a big boy toy
Excited for the next episodes
it really is, what a thing to drive...
Wohoo! Looking forward to seeing such a familiar car... but with completely different running gear!
Wish I could come over and join in, the whole process looks like fun!
It really is a blast, thanks Robert!
I love this car
This is great
Always wondered about the m in the background of a couple of videos, nice work
Thanks Rob, its been around for a while now. I've been driving it and getting ready to make videos on it. I have some already saved up which is good for content :D
Restore It can’t wait!
Good morning from a wet Huddersfield in the U.K. lol 😆 What prat of Spain are you in? We’ve a holiday home in Sucina near Murcia 🤩 Really enjoying your videos. Your format is just about spot on with enough detail and explanation as you go 👍🏻 Cheers Stevie 😀
Keep on rockin mate
Cheers Paven! WIll do :)
To make a key lock operate smooth get some graphite powder from a hardware store and put some inside the lock where the key goes. Don't use oil! Great stuff man! I envy your sun in Spain... I miss mine from my island!
Nice project!
Thanks dude!
Awesome project car! Don’t smash it & don’t crash it!
Can't wait
Always loved that car! And the outside takes of your videos!!! is it Alicante??? Congrats from Murcia!!!
Dude I'm so excited supeeer
Good to hear it Martin! Me too. Lots to come.
Such a good looking car.
It really is...
AMAZING WORK DEAR FRIEND GREETINGS FROM BOLIVIA!
07:04 __ Ouch!
Ouch indeed! I was not thinking about it...
Some people call that a "helicopter". Good thing it wasn't bigger. Big ones are scary.
Awesome project! and great introduction video. As a note: be careful with any relevant modification. Being a “historical” car it has a study behind it and a special ITV review where several specific items have been registered “As-Is”.
This was unexpected appetizer for touring video...for me,a main dish :D
Haha glad to hear it Milos :D
Man i was so excited to see this car
Good to hear it Mosk!
Restore It i only saw one in the street, and i had to stop so see it close, the owner was there and he told me is easy to see i was in love with the car, so he let me sit so i can say i was inside an E30 M3, my best day of 2015
E 30 , e 34 , e 32 are the best bmw series of al ages
Great job on the lock mate.
Thanks mate, we were pretty stumped for a while :)
wow nice car:)
That’s awesome you get to have an original m3. Keep it up and be careful around that legend lol
Excelente
A lot of work to do on that M3, but always worth it!!!
