In retrospect, these types of ships would be quite formidable and would be an acceptable complement to any fleet. Since there is no crew...... you could double or even triple the hull armor on them since there would be a need to have corridors, sleeping quarters, mess hall, etc. so the frame would be densely packed and far more effective structure internally. It would be extremely maneuverable and agile, even with the most advanced inertia dampeners a human would be flung around at extremely high speeds. You could install some of the most powerful warp cores and conduits without the any repercussion of human safety or fatalities due to radiation of any kind. I would say you could get easily (4) times the power output for shielding and weapons since replicators, lights, sonic showers, medbays, life support, etc. all require power and human intervention/interaction, but if you remove the human element you can divert it to weapons, shielding and speed.
Wow. Now I want to see the Texas-class match up against a bunch of other Federation ships. Obviously they dealt with the Sovereign just fine, but it might be fun to see a squad of Texas-class ships go up against a squad of Defiants or something, to say noting of seeing how many of them the Galaxy-X or the World Razer can take on at once.
If the Galaxy-X from Hell saw a fleet of Texas Classes, it would basically see them as flies on a dartboard. Also, how would an Excelsior-II fair against Two Nova Classes...
I doubt that Star Fleet would actually build an AI controlled ship. Remember what happened when the M5 computer was installed on the U.S.S. Enterprise in the original series?
4:10 A fleet of unmanned ships (I assume that's what you meant, not unarmed) for tactical situations? Maybe they will if they forget about the Planet Killer, M5, Nomad, Val, Landru, Lore, Dreadnaught, the Texas-class, Gul Dukat's security system, Peanut Hamper, Warhead, Pralor androids, Cravic androids, Dejaren, that repair station Enterprise docked at, probably a bunch I'm not thinking of or that we never saw, and honorable mention to the ones that were threatening but not deliberately or irredeemably like Norm, the Whale Probe, V'Ger, and those holograms that escaped the Hirogen.
problem with borg vs starfleet ships is that borg ships are so huge it can absorb so much more damage and have superior damage control that it can outlast starfleet ships in battle hence why it takes a whole fleet to stop just one cube... starfleet needs to field larger universe class ships to even take on a borg cube.
This was as fun one to watch. I know I posted yesterday dunno why it didn't show up...ah well. The Texas class is an interesting design for sure. When you mentioned AI controlled...reminds me of the M5 Multitronic unit. Especially with this...maybe M5 controlled gone insane? LOL BTW it was only the Enterprise-E who fired quantum torpedoes at the Borg ship in First Contact. All the other ships fired regular photon torpedoes, even the Akira class.
Hey RBG while i was doing my research I came across a reference from official source material stating the yield of quantum torpedoes was anywhere from 50 to 150 that of the most powerful photon torpedoes. So it makes sense the borg would not be able to adapt.
I think drones would be far more common place. We saw how even the Cardassians were able to construct very advanced drones before the DW. Sure Starfleet could build ones that weren't crazy. Attack-ship sized drones would be perfect. As would runabout sized ones whose function is delivering a bunch of photons.

Federation council: How much firepower can you cramp into a tiny starship ? The Defiant's not good enough anymore. Engineer: Yes! Just don't have any crew! Kirk: We already tried that idea with the M5 and it turned out really bad! Riker: A fleet of remote controlled ships all acting according to the same fundamental programming ? Something that's already a bit Borg-like might be cracked more easily by them and then what if we have to face our own drones ? Engineer: The borg are way too interested in self-preservation to even try and incorporate the operating system I have in mind for these ships. I call it 'Badgey'. There's no need to worry! Quark: There certainly isn't. The prices for quantum torpedoes will jump to warp 10 the moment these ships see the light of day...
Actually, for Starfleet this is a good idea. And they should be kept at strategic locations in the Federation. Imagine if they had these during the Dominion War? Just a few in every fleet would've made a real difference.
The concept is solid, I agree the fleet of small remote controlled AI powered StarShips could be really awesome. Just don't get an Emo ensign to program the AI.
