- Friday 1st December brought the Antonov AN-22 to Manchester Airport. It is the largest propeller aircraft flying today.
The aircraft landed from Helsinki at approximately midday on RWY 05L at Manchester Airport, and took off at 14:30, again on RWY 05L, taxiing right past us and giving us a great view of this incredible machine.
It was in to take an engine to Holguin, Cuba for a Thomas Cook Airlines Airbus A330-200 which had had gone tech in Holguin and required another engine. As Thomas Cook are based in Manchester, thats where most of their spare engines are, especially for the UK arm of the company.
The aircraft will be back later on next week to bring back the old engine.

Love the sound of these and the smaller AN-12. It sounds like a Zeppelin airship !!
I live under the flight path of Manchester airport in stockport and you grow accustomed to the planes coming into land but this thing sounded like Armageddon when it came into land. Absolutely amazing machine

Just watched this take off from Gander. Incredible sight and sound. On the way East across the Atlantic. You may see it again in a few hours!
yeah, its shame we couldn't film it then. hopefully next time it comes in
Very rare plane, I have only ever seen a AN-22 once
I heard this one take off (I live not far from the airport in heald green). I thought it was a fast helicopter, until I checked on fr24. It mentioned on the website that it was heading to gander, and had barely reached 10,000ft before reaching the coastline, and barely 20,000 when reaching the irish coastline.
haha, you're not the first person to say that. thanks for watching
What a noisy engine sound.Loved it.
yeah, extremely noisy
Amazing and rare catch :)

Very interesting video! Great machine, the "UR-09307" is more often here at the airport Leipzig / Halle (LEJ / EDDP). For a thumbs up, very nice! Greetings from Germany :)
thanks for watching
Holguin via Gander... It flew over me here in Ireland, and the noise/ rumble that I could hear from the ground (on Friday afternoon) made me check FlightRadar24! Great video! I would've heard it about an hour after you filmed it... nice :)
ahh nice. we could hear it on approach from miles away
I had been waiting to spot this and record it, the night before it was due to arrive, I was sick! How infuriating!!
always next time!
At 0:40, is that a Comet and a Nimrod between the hangars??
its a Trident and Nimrod. They are on show at the Aviation Viewing Park, where the taxi footage from this video was filmed. Thanks for watching
