Hey I’m one of the youngest people in my school and also one of the smallest and I haven’t been making the middle school teams cause of my size. Do you have any tips for me to be more outstanding then the bigger and stronger people than me?
In baseball it's not about your size, it's about your skills. Just look at Jose Altuve! I'd encourage you to keep working on mastering the fundamentals. Baseball is a simple game, so let's keep it that way. Keep working and be a more consistent player on defense then the other guys. Be a more consistent hitter. You'll earn your spot!
Are you for or against resting hands on knees waiting for a ball to be batted? I teach my infielders to stand relaxed until the pitcher sets up for his next pitch. I never allow my infielders rest arms on legs or knees
I have a 9yr old team and I'm trying to teach my kids to stay in the box and be aggressive I don't teach my kids to wear a pitch I teach them to get out the way if possible and have showed the how to protect themselves if they can't get out the way it's a work in progress building their confidence any tips for me?
+Tony P One thing I always like to do to learn how to properly get hit by a pitch or get outta the way... have them stand in the box and take BP with tennis balls or whiffle balls. Mix between throwing strikes and throwing balls at them. It won't hurt them because they aren't real baseballs, but stress the importance of rolling with the pitch and turning that front shoulder towards the catcher. Should help them out!
teach me how to get off the bench on my high school varsity team. I like to play outfield but I don't have a strong enough arm so occasionally I get put in the infield. What do I do to throw farther, harder and more accurately?
I gave a question about top #2 I believe. If it’s subtle and at the last second, how does this top it from “playing you” (taking a bad hop)? The whole point of the tip (from my understanding) is to attack the back before it’s able to take a bad hop but in your demonstration you still receiving the ball off the same exact hop you normally would, just not letting it get to you, rather slightly stabbing at it. I’m not understanding how this helps for a bad hop. Please help
Hey Justin I have a problem with standing straight up after a ground ball straight at me. What can I do to fix this. He says I need to stay down and walk with my throw. I think it feels a little weird but I need to get used to it. Do you have any ideas of what I can do?
Work on you breathing and staying low using the right left technique still. I also wear a mouth piece I almost lost 4 teeth to the right side of my face on a bad hop. 7 stitches later I'm back on the field, but I wear a mouth piece it helps!
The key is to think about staying without standing up until you are in the throwing position, by catching the ball first and drawing it up it allows you to stay down before standing up. It will also allow you to catch the ball more consistently and throw the ball with more velocity.
Hi, I'm a little leauge 3rd base man/ shortstop. Are their any drills for hard line drives that are in the dirt on a back hand play during a play at home?
Learn how to properly get hit by a pitch. Have a coach/parent throw you tennis balls or softer balls for BP. Have them mix it up, some pitches strikes where you crush them, other pitches right at you where you have to turn your front shoulder in, bring your bat down, and wear it. That will really help!
Wow thx u so much just today i had a test in a baseball academy in the Dominican Republic and your tips helpe me so much btw am a (3b) like really thx u so much
How do you feel about those practice bounce balls that look like dog chew toys. Supposed to help reaction time. I dont think they should be used at a youth lvl. Staying down on groundballs seems more important. Just wanted your thoughts.
I think those reaction balls can be a good tool to help with hand-eye coordination, but I agree with you - I think that getting REAL reps and REAL ground balls are much more important!
I usually play 2B in slow pitch and the #1 throw I do is a under hand toss or flip. It drives me crazy when I play outfield and the my 2B replacement over throws the SS because he over handed it from 10'-15' away.
The under your legs drill is genius I have a 10 year old and a 6 year old I’m gonna do this especially with my 10 year old my 6 year old is so amazing for his age it’s unbelievable

Funnel the ball to your chest, come up and make a strong throw

Best of luck. Great BaseBall-N Don Ervin Former Phillies Pro Player. ame392002@yahoo.com
Aidan, when the ball is hit you should quickly get your body into to a position slightly to the right side of the oncoming baseball. If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like you may be taking too much of a lateral step initially, then you have a hard time getting back to the ball. Try to take more a V-cut angle in the direction of the ball until your left hip is in line with he right side of the ball. Make sure you attack the short hop with your right-left step, through the ball. Field the ball just inside your left foot and not in the middle of your body. Let me know what happens!
The key is in the initial read of the ball. Once the ball is hit if you ever feel yourself waiting on the ball you need to charge it. If you find yourself not waiting on the ball then you don't need to get around it, just make sure you catch it naturally and allow the glove to do its job.
You show boat when you field. When you are going down for the ball you flip your glove which slows you down and allows a fast groundball to get past you. Have your glove out instead of flipping your glove down
+Malachi Fuller I agree, you have to have soft hands! Pushing your glove slightly forward (I'm talking an inch or two) will help take away any last second bad hops.
Malachi, If you will very closely notice that when the heel of the glove is pushed forward properly the elbow raises up very slightly and sets the fore arm which in turn sets hand and glove into a scoop shovel angle position, otherwise the finger tips of the glove would not hug the surface/ground and allow the ball to smoothly enter the glove. Sometimes one just has to do what one has to do to get to and field a ball. Soft hands pertains to the flexibility of the wrist/hands led by the elbows giving, not being straight and stiff when receiving/catching a ball. basically those who do not keep their feet moving when necessary will usually eat the ball, so to speak.
