  • The largest cave chamber in North America! More than 800 feet below the surface!
    Spring Break 2024 road trip to eclipse totality in Texas!
    April 3rd, day 5 of our 11 day trip, led us to Carlsbad Caverns National Park. We were extremely lucky to get two tickets for the Kings Palace guided tour. There were only 12 tickets available and they all sold out in less than a second! We also gained entry tickets to do the self guided tour of The Big Room which is the largest cave chamber in North America. Only 1 of the 4 elevators were working and gaining access in and out of the cave had us worried. Everything went as planned and it was an amazing adventure!!
    Enjoy!

      Thanks Jim. I was following your lead! I stooped to a new low on this adventure! LOL We really like seeing all the different cave systems. They are all so unique in their own way. I'm glad we did not have to hike out of this one. It would have been a loop steep hike out. Glad you enjoyed seeing the cave. Have a wonderful day.

    Awesome visit to Carlsbad Caverns! Great job getting the special tickets! Quite an amazing cave experience - hard to imagine just how big it is. Great tour around the rooms and formations… watch your head…lol… super cool! So many unique formations - the lights really show them off well. Impressive network of trails and bridges. Great visit! 😄⭐⭐⭐

      Thanks Jennifer. It was pure luck on getting those tickets. I tried for a few days even on the days I knew I could not go just for practice! No luck on those days but finally succeeded on the day we actually needed them. LOL. This place is pretty amazing. Certainly worth the visit if you are in the area. This was our second time here but first time with guided tour tickets. Awesome experience both times. Have a wonderful day.

    Carlsbad Caverns are really fun to visit. We too arrived early on what was our second visit but had no queues to join. Neither elevator was running but we were able to walk down (and up). We were the first down that morning. Only a few others were prepared to make the descent which really was not too difficult. We have a video pretty early on the channel if you are interested. You have captured much of the beauty and grandeur of this place. None of the guided tours were operating at the time of our visit so it was interesting to see more of the complex with you.

      Thanks. Glad you have been there before and enjoyed the video. Well done on your hike through the natural entrance. They say that is a tough hike. I'd like to go that route next time we visit. Those guided tours are really hard to get. I tried a few times unsuccessfully leading up to the day we actually got ours. It was worth going into those areas. Such a beautiful cave and formations. Thanks for watching. Have a wonderful day.

    This underground cave system is something out of this world. I feel like those rock formations that hang there can break off and hit you anytime, I wouldn't want to be there in the middle of an earthquake, lol. Very cool experience.

    Caves are so fun to visit. We have quite a few in the Black Hills. Our favorite here is Jewel Cave. It looked busy there! Carlsbad Caverns is also on our bucket list to see. It's nice there are self- guided tours as well as guided. ❤ Really cool cave! 😊

      This is a pretty awesome cave system. It was a fun return trip here especially with the tour tickets we were lucky to get. I hope you make it here someday. WE love exploring the different caves when we travel. We hope to make it up to Wind Cave and some of the other caves up your way too. If you can get the ranger guided tour here, you hit the gold mine! If not, the self guided tour is great too. Have a great day.

    Cool! I've been there!! Was, 1964 or 65!! Don't remember no elevator!! lol Don't talk about falling stalactites while walking under them! lol Pretty cool...and probably was a little cool too! Marvelous!! Can you just imagine being the first to see such a place...Wow!!

      @Packsalot  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks Bruce. It is an amazing place. Glad you were able to visit here before. That was a bit ago too! You probably had to go in through the natural entrance. That is a long steep hike. Well done! Good thing we didn't jinx ourselves with the falling stalactite discussion. LOL. The temperature down there was actually really nice for us. Like an air conditioned home. Just right. That would be cool to discover something like this. Maybe someday while exploring someplace we might. Thanks for watching. Have a wonderful day.

    Very impressive and we have something similar about 30 miles away from us and the Cavens go 1 mile underground but they will not allow me to film it, which is a shame as it is amazing, especially all lite up. Cheers Alan

      Thanks Alan. We love visiting caves. They are all unique in their own way. Longest, deepest, most of a particular feature, etc. Super cool. Too bad you can't film in the one by you. Glad you can still visit it and take in the beauty in person. Glad you enjoyed seeing Carlsbad Caverns. It was our second time here and worth the visit. Have a great day.

    That is a pretty impressive place! I can see why it is so hard to score tickets into it. I was camping this past weekend and found a cave, it was 15 feet long, 4 feet high and the ceiling was a carpet of cave crickets. This Carlsbad Cavern is much much better.

    • @Packsalot
      @Packsalot  4 месяца назад

      Thanks Dug. The tickets were extremely hard to get. It was literally less than a second sell out. I would be creeped out with the cave crickets you found. Carlsbad is definitely worth the visit. This was our second time here but the first time we did not get lucky on the tickets. Still cool to self guide through the big room. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.

    We did Carlsbad back in 2017. It's a really neat cave. Definitely something I think peeps should do at least once, if they can. It's so massive. And very pretty. I just had to keep telling myself I wasn't in a huge cave that might collapse in and trap me 😆😬 This is one of the places I would have loved to have been into filming when we went. I have lots of pics, but it's so much cooler to see it on video. The elevator going up is another interesting experience. Jessie hates elevators lol. Great video guys. Thanks for sharing your experience of Carlsbad.

    • @Packsalot
      @Packsalot  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks. Glad you were able to check it out. It really is pretty amazing to see and experience. Hopefully, we can return someday to do the bat flight program. It sounds super cool to witness. We were happy to escape without a collapse! LOL. It is also a concern of ours. I guess Jessie could hike in/out through the natural entrance if he was up for the long steep climb. I'll take my chances on the elevator and have that as a backup option! LOL. Have a great day.

    Awesome!!so freaking cool! Love caverns.. So spectacular. I was so sad to miss them (they were on my way) but after 5 days of extreme pain with shingles on my back and side (no meds) and another 35 hours drive well...I decided to skip them for my health. I'll go back someday :)

      Thanks Max. Being underground is not everyone's favorite place to visit for sure. Glad you enjoyed the watch though. If the elevators were to all quit working, at least there is a natural cave entrance you can hike out. It just requires the over 1000 foot steep climb to get out. Maybe someday if we go back we may attempt that. No time for that kind of adventure this trip though. Have a great day.
