    If you have a brand new cast iron skillet, you will need to season it first. Here’s a video on how to do that. ruclips.net/video/GBU9aXQhAT4/видео.html

      @@RoseOatley thank you for replying! 👍. Also, can you tell me if the rice should be washed before frying it?

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  Год назад

      Traditionally, Mexican rice recipes do not call for rinsing the rice before cooking. However, whether to rinse the rice or not is a matter of personal preference. Rinsing the rice can help remove any excess starch and make the grains less sticky, resulting in a fluffier texture. On the other hand, not rinsing the rice can contribute to a slightly stickier consistency, which some people prefer for Mexican rice. It’s entirely up to you!

    Please 86 the chicken bullion. It’s loaded with MSG and contains no chicken. The Knorr product has invaded Mexican kitchens and restaurants in the last 40 years and I can’t make sense of it. Make your own stock or use the canned stuff. Even water is fine. In northern Mexico, the tortillas are flour, the beans refried and the rice is orange. In the South,where 75% of the population lives, the tortillas are corn, the beans are black and the rice is white… no tomatoes, just chicken stock, garlic and onion,salt. Delicious. And yes, both rice styles has its roots in Spain, where it’s called Paella, not Spanish rice.

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  Год назад +3

      Welcome, Sam! They also have some options labeled “No MSG added” if that’s your preference. Using chicken bouillon is a personal choice. If you prefer chicken stock, feel free to use it. That’s the beauty of creating your own and making it to your liking.
      Paella is indeed a “Spanish rice” dish. Paella in Spain has different varieties, chicken paella, seafood paella, mixed paella (seafood/veggies) and some even made with rabbit meat.
      Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend!

    did you wash your rice first?

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  7 месяцев назад +2

      In the case of Mexican rice, some people may choose to wash the rice to remove excess starch and ensure a less sticky final product, while others may not see it as necessary. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and tradition. I personally don’t only when it comes to Mexican rice but I do for others such as white rice, etc. There are different ways to prepare rice based on personal preferences and cultural traditions. If you wash your rice, make sure you dry it before it goes in the oil to fry.
