MaryAnne Hobbs from BBC Radio 6 Music invited Beth Gibbons and her band to spend the day at BBC Maida Vale studios a few weeks back to record tracks from her new album Lives Outgrown, plus a classic track from her 2002 album Out Of Season, who she made with Paul Webb (aka Rustin Man) from Talk Talk.
Beth's signature, haunting vocals and lyrics with Portishead put the band at the epicentre of the Bristol scene in the mid 90s. Her last album with Portishead "Third" was released back in 2008.

How can this be from 2024? She looks exactly the same ! Still sounds beautiful, too. Portishead's Dummy is one of the greatest albums of all time.
Beth Gibbons just dropped an absolute masterpiece and we don't even know what just hit us.
Beth is every bit as breathtaking today as she was in the days of Portishead. This album is easily one of my top 10 favorites of all time now. What an incredible live performance!

@@condimentking414Billie Eilish has never put out anything interesting in her entire life. Not even her constant complaining is interesting. Kim Gordon’s album is far better than all those you mentioned.
@cactaceous Billie Eilish has put out great stuff in spite of what grumpy boomers say. And this new one is quite a banger.
The new Kim Gordon is good as well. So is the latest St Vincent release. But Vampire Weekend and Cindy Lee outputs are better... they'll both stand for album of the decade contenders.

I'm a massive Portishead fan and, as much as I love the beats and sounds of the band, the warm organic soundscapes on this album are fantastic. Beth is equally at home in either and her voice carries every track. One of the best albums of the year without a doubt.
The projection,diction and pronunciation is stellar. Twists and turns are wonderful..Wow!
i cant believe my eyes im watching this woman on a new video after 15 years ...i know she dont like to exposed , and didnt want to be famous at all , dont want money ...but for christ sake she is the only mastermind behind the invention of a movement back in 1991 "sad songs" without making money only for art !
I'm definitely gonna buy this album. Portishead are my favourite band and I love Beth's vocals and song writing.

Stunning, this woman is a monument unto herself! So many elements of this album remind me of the quieter moments of Portishead, but also great artists like Shara Warden (of "My Brightest Diamond" fame). Intimate, warm, still tortured after all these years, but hopeful, nevertheless

Reminds me a bit of My Brightest Diamond blended with Beach House in that chorus. Truly a masterpiece from the incomparable Beth Gibbons, Portishead was such a massive trailblazer for electronic music in the 90's and Gibbons keeps showing that Portishead was certainly no fluke
