    By far the best rule set. No worrying about points or stalling when up on points. Just pure attacks and defense.

      Except when it allows someone consistently attacking from dangerous positions in regulation to be put in bad positions their opponent was never able to impose on them outside of overtime. Person in bad positions then stalls until overtime begins and gets the back miraculously.

      @@traffordmcclellan4195 yes I totally agree for training it's perfect.. But for competition I'm not sure this will show you the better bjj guy... I'm more about submission only rules
      I don't believe if you can escape faster you are the better fighter.. Or a champion can be one just by escaping faster.... I know there is the other part here of attacking also but the time limit is not making it perfect for me .. That's my humble opinion

    Eddie is one of the best BJJ guys in the world. That's a fact. But how about how valuable that is for mma. I suppose that's a foolish question because it depends on how strong you are in striking with kicking and punching. It's obvious that BJJ adds a necessary ingredient for successful fighting ability. So strategies can be so varied. You can model your style around getting the opponent to the ground in order to finish with a submission, but if your opponent is skilled against submissions then you can still win easily with a decision if most of the match is on the ground with you attempting submissions and the other guy defending. One question is why would that sway the decision against the defensive guy? Great défense tires the aggressor out, making it much better for the defender in the next round when he can keep the fight in standing mode. Judging is often extremely unfair because it does not take long term strategy into account.imagibe a fighter who wins 9 of 10 of his fights and mostly in late rounds by submission. He tires the guy out and finally submits easily.if he doesn't submit his opponent he usually loses because he looks like he is not winning,ndespite his strategy being usually very effective. Maybe mma fights should always end in knockout or submission or draw. No decisions. In chess there are masters who play for a draw if they play an opponent who always beats them if they both play to win but if he plays for a draw he is usually successful. A lot of tournaments do nit invite those super draw masters because the top guys don't like to p,at against that strategy. A master likely to win a tournament can lose because of a draw master. In fighting, a super defender can win by frustrating the opponent who is not as patient.

      This format is valuable to jiu jitsu firstly and MMA by proxy. Defense is a gateway to offense and a valuable tool in mental warfare during Combat because your opponent gives up on using some of his most valuable weapons, given the fact that they are uneffective. That's depressing, it fatigues you a lot, your brain goes on overload and you start making poor decisions. Doesn't seem like a big deal stated this way, but once again, in combat you are one mistake away from a definitive finish. Alexander Volkanovski recent fights are a great example, versus Islam and certainly versus Ortega : after throwing the whole kitchen sink of subs at Volk, Ortega found himself swarmed by strikes in his own guard. He confessed his shock and desperation in the moment, even if he persevered. Also using great defense means you understand the value of your hands : they either control a position (or post) or they strike, but they can't do both at the same time. Agains't Islam, Volk took the liberty of punching behind him while his back was taken. Islam couldn't set the choke, couldn't use his seat belt, he was moving back and forth between protecting his head and intercepting Volk's hands. This contest was almost an ozzie troll of denying the most important toolset of Islam, which is his lifelong sambo background. After 5 rounds, you guess it : Islam gets also swarmed by punches in his guard before the bell rings. Islam won indeed but his face is bruised af, especially compared to Volk's.
      So i'd argue that defense is underrated tool. People like to think that the best fighter is always the one that has better weapons than his opponents, but we often sleep on the fighters that are skilled enough to rob their opponent's weapons and allow themselves to be the agressor instead. That's next level defense.

    With EBI rules you see real jiu-jitsu. Once you don't have to worry about points you just go for it.

    • @diabolic42090
      @diabolic42090 4 года назад +1

      I always like watching EBI comps but i disagree with your sentiment. In a points tournament, you will fight hard to not get mounted because you will give up 4 points. Under EBI rules, you can get mounted and not really face any consequences if your defense is tight enough. Then you can stall until OT, get placed on your opponent's back and score a submission. If we're talking about "real jiu jitsu" then I have to go with the ruleset which forces competitors to fight hard to avoid getting mounted (as you would in a fight). Of course, the points rulesets are not perfect either. But I do agree that EBI tournaments are really fun to watch and I am a fan.

    • @dedfoker
      @dedfoker 4 года назад

      Vincent van der Veen unless your opponent stalls the entire match to get overtime. I love ebi once the guys are willing to submit, not stall/survive up to overtime to get an advantage. There's plenty of matches that went to overtime by stalling.

    • @lahuertadelivery1
      @lahuertadelivery1 4 года назад +1

      You still can win a street fight if you get mounted, etc. But you can't win a real fight by points or stalling. And certainly you can stall at EBI but then you're taking the fight to another instance where BOTH competitors has equal chances to submit; and of course the better at it will win just as in the regular fight. So at the end not matter what, it is the better fighter who wins. And definitely I just would never said the same can happen in point fight where the best competitor at getting a useless point and stall for the rest of the match will win without even try to fight.

    So, Gordon Ryan just faced Nicky Rod in UFC Fight pass this past Saturday. What do the EBI rules say about holding a submission when the time expires in an overtime round? It was proposed to me that EBI rules say that even if the time expires, if a submission is in place, the opponent must escape before the match is called for time. Is this true? GR tapped after the time expired in his last overtime round with NR.

    • @alfiesolomon3531
      @alfiesolomon3531 Год назад

      Indeed the 2min rule is the deadline to make the action happen, just like any other fight format has a bell ring that saves you from a round in which are being swarmed by punches. But different formats, different perspectives dictactes different rulesets. Metamoris had a good rule of keeping the fighting going if you were still in danger even if the time ran out, but not EBI.
      Gordon was in danger but was pointing at the clock and stopped defending, that's why he tapped.
