>Makes a video to help people with no experience >Tells them to write down what experience they've had If someone has LITERALLY no work experience, not even voluntary charity work, not even participation for any clubs, then what are they meant to put in a CV?!
Hi, sorry I did not see this at the time. Here's the blunt reality..any one can go and help out. Today's market place is soooo super competitive that the BEST jobs are in high demand. If you want to get noticed, you have to stand out.
He did say what to do very clearly if you have nothing else to write when you have nothing. He said if you don't have anything to write something about why you want to work for that company specifically. Tailor your CV/Resume to the company you are applying for.
@Farhana Begum Hate to say this but at some point I got lucky in an interview for a mobile phone repair shop. They gave me a few minutes to start taking a phone apart even tho I'd never done it before and I ended up being the best candidate they interviewed. So I guess next time you get an interview ask for a chance to physically demonstrate you'd be capable at the job?
@Farhana Begum I think it was through indeed.com. That site probably has the best variety of jobs to apply for. Actually something I'd recommend is if you find a job you REALLY want to apply for, most job listings will have an E-mail address towards the bottom of the job description so send an E-mail their way. Makes you stand out compared to the hundreds of others who only click "apply now" and don't do any more than that.
@Farhana Begum No problem dude. I doubt you'll get a job anytime soon with corona going around, but once things start returning to normal you should have a good shot. If you're willing to put the effort in, making brownies or cupcakes as a "Thanks for the opportunity" present is practically guaranteed to get you a call back! Kindness and generosity go waaaayyyyy further than merit sometimes.
at least in england (though i'm sure there are other organisations around the world) there is do-it.org.uk which is all about volunteering in your local area. since i had no experience of working in reception, yet a lot of jobs i'm looking for require experience in reception, i've just started volunteering at my local information centre/town hall. hoping this, on top of my other volunteer jobs, will boost my CV and general knowledge.
Hi Kenny, you might find it a little tougher right now than a few years ago..nothing to stop you applying tho'...check out the REC for more info about the profession
Selling myself is not my thing, really. If I wrote that I got the best grade at Anatomy class, for example. I would say that It wouldn't be nice, because It looks like as though I am trying to show myself off.I am totally feeling like garbage, I am getting my degree next year, and competing with a lot of professionals, while I don't have any experience... is rather disappointing.
Thank you, these videos are brilliant! just a quick question. I hear a lot of people say you shouldn't say "I" or "my" etc. Do you have any preferences on wording such as this? Thanks again for these videos!
I really appreciate you and your effort to help others. Can you please make a video about how to make a CV for a different field of your previous experience. Thank you again.
I have to write a CV for sixth form. I get good grades a school (As), but none of them are official yet. I did work experience in my school's Maths department because I failed to get any elsewhere and I missed out on Duke of Edingburugh and Young Enterprise. I have never done any volantary work, or payed work. I have a few weeks to write a CV. What do I do?
@Artivie Hi there, this is a tough one! If the employer REALLY does need relevant experience/skills you are probably not going to get the jiob. I'd focus on roles with training & skills development opportunities and MAJOR on your previous successes in other areas of life. Good luck
Ive been watching a bunch of videos on this and they all say the same thing, except this one. I like what you said about others opinions are much stronger then yours when speaking about yourself.
Hi Billiejoe...good luck with your last years at college..my biggest recommendation is that your CV must be perfect...re spelling & grammar. Get it professionally checked...ok! Oh, and research who you apply to making your letter & CV relevant.
Hello Mr. Martin, as far as looking only the CV goes. I'd just like to ask if there is a chance for a job in recruitment industry as recruitment consultant to a guy like me having only 3 month work experienced as a sales rep. Thank you
Aloha TheRecruitmentGuy, I just recently graduated a year ago with my BS in Linguistic and economics and certificates in Public Relations and TESOL. I'm currently working at a hotel in Hawaii as a Bell Expeditor. Would it be possible for me to get a job on the international field with a work experience like this? What can I do to get a better job?
Hi Graham, Very helpful tips as usual. Something we should all be greatful for. However, I Moved back from Canada after staying for a year this September. So I missed out on Any work opportunities available. I have worked in Canada at A Truck wash as it was goof pay. But have minimal Retail experience as I also volantatily work at my College library. So I was wondering if you can have a look at my CV and Suggest which elements may need improvement if I was to go at Retail Sector such as Sales or Cashier etc.
Thanks, this is very helpful. I'm soon finishing my master's degree in a social science, and have done a bachelor's in the humanities, so with degrees not specifically tailored to any job (outside of academia/teaching), it's going to be a bit of a struggle at first, particularly as I don't have much experience. I was wondering, would it even be worth mentioning that I delivered mail to the local community (300ish addresses) once a week when I was about 14, for about six months? Or that I had a summer job working construction for 3 weeks when I was 18? They both just seem either too long ago, or too short to even be of notice, not to mention not relevant to anything I'd want to do. Thanks.
im from venezuela, and i will be graduating , mechanical engineer feb 2014, with 20years, no experience. , i wanna work/live in canada/australia/US. what do u recomend me to do?. thanks for ur vids
Hey! I am currently a post grad student in UK, I am doing healthcare policy and management. I have previously done Dentistry for my under grad. I dont have any work experience as I didn't take a year off and been continuously in education. However I have had great involvement in the extra curricular activities like I have volunteered in a non profit organisation, and also I have been key member in the student committees both in my undergrad and post grad. Also been a student rep. Written a fictional novel at the age of 16 which I got self published later. Do you think I can elaborate on these for the experience section of a CV? do you think I have to write like skills or just elaborate on what I did specific to each of the above volunteering commitment. Thanks
Hi thank you so much.. really helpful tips. when i include my working experience to a particular job does it have to be relevant to the job, as in shouldn't i include working experiences which do not relevant to the job i apply ?
Hi Matthew...simples really!! If it's from YOU say 'I' or 'me'...third party i.e. 'he' should only be used by OTHERS if they have comments to make, ok?
This video is for people who are looking for work and have no experience am I right? then why still mention previous experience? If I don't have any experience then there's just no way i can write anything about it... Either way you need experience for everything
While this is helpful, I do wonder this: isn't it counter-productive to teach people who you don't want to hire how to make themselves seem hireable? Is it not better to let those people weed themselves out?
Hmm, this is a really good point. I think that everyone deserves a chance...BUT as an employer AND a recruiter of 25 years, I think that many 'wrong' candidates give themselves away...would YOU hire David Brent? No...his attitude stinks and you can't hide that
I have many questions i want to ask. I am starting to write my very first CV and that's where the problem comes. I don't have anything to write about since I'm still in school without having any work experience. I know you said to include any type of work experience so I was planning to include that I work at nursery before but doesn't this work experience seem weird to include for applying for part time jobs? When you said include volunteering work, I don't have any , but there is something that I do every weekend I help out at my family shop. So I was wondering is this classified (in your view) as volunteering work? The last question is that is there anything else that can help me boost up a CV like what should I focus more on since I have very little work experience & volunteering work ?
Include all experience including the nursery work; it's not weird, the more the better. Helping out in your parents shop counts as work experience, I'd suggest you definitely add that to your CV, just name the shop and say you work their on the weekends and mention how long you've been doing it (that would be impressive) but don't mention it belongs to your parents lol. I'd suggest you focus of other activities that you've taken part in school which require skills such as working in a team or leading a team, Such as sports, school activities or school council stuff etc. But what's going to make or break you CV Caitlin is your grammar. I've found some mistakes in your comment so I assume your CV probably has them, if you fix the grammar mistakes in your CV; i'm sure you'll have a good CV. For example: *That I've worked at a nursery before*
Got man flu...next week.. Briefely tho'... 1 Four sentances max 2 No cliches etc ...NO 'hardworking, enthusiastic, team player, good communication skills, loyal etc' 3 Explain what your experience is use data, %, solid info...then solid achievements...then what you WANT (be specific)....what YOU can do for a company 4 edit, edit, edit...
Hello, David. Thank you for very helpful information. I just have finished my university, where I was studying an International Business. Now I am starting to finally apply for the jobs I dream about. Is there any chance for me to send my CV and cover letter to you? If you looked at it and give me your feedback, I would be super happy. I will appreciate it so much. Thank you in advance.
There is no such one and only uniform style of CV. Thats the thing about CVs that they may contain different styles but all of them can do well with good structure.
>Makes a video to help people with no experience
>Tells them to write down what experience they've had
If someone has LITERALLY no work experience, not even voluntary charity work, not even participation for any clubs, then what are they meant to put in a CV?!

Glad it helped...I've been doing a roadshow recently for year 12/13...this is the main thrust of my content!
Thank you so much, I need to provide a cv for a uni scholarship and you have just saved me from A LOT of mistakes
Thanks, appreciate your kind words...

Hi Deki. What is your goal in life? What is your degree? Why no experience? Graham
thanks very much
you realy helped to sort my mind a little and showed me the light in the darkness
Thanks v much...
Thanks a lot for uploading this video. I will help me explain my students how to make their CV when they have no work experience at all. Thanks again.

This is true...but most people have had some experience of work/responsibility/charity work...scouts/church etc. Talk about that..ok?
I subscribed your videos are terrific;D

NO, we want to see work exp...no matter what. All helps form character and shows you can 'turn up'

Hello TheRecruitmentGuy Please can I ask a question about CV
What if you haven’t done any of these ?
Well...you'd better hope that your competition haven't prepared a better CV!
This video is for people who are looking for work and have no experience am I right? then why still mention previous experience? If I don't have any experience then there's just no way i can write anything about it... Either way you need experience for everything
You actually dont have to get a job, you can start your own business.
While this is helpful, I do wonder this: isn't it counter-productive to teach people who you don't want to hire how to make themselves seem hireable? Is it not better to let those people weed themselves out?

TheRecruitmentGuy David Brent is refreshingly laid back for a man with such responsibilities.
ShinyObsessed So that person that wants to get off their arse and work can't get a job because they don't deserve a chance?
I have many questions i want to ask.

Thank you for very helpful information.
I just have finished my university, where I was studying an International Business.
