I fucking hate characters that are cocky but useless (unless they are used to make you hate them, kinda like Gabi in AOT, who I think is annoying but that is what the writer intended for the reader to feel in order to make Sascha's death and Gabi's own change of hearth more impactful), and there seems to be a trope in anime where girls are agressive and beat up the main character while being useless in serious situations. Nobara is cocky but also knows when to be greatful and back off (thats why the small interaction with Itadori when he helps her run away from the cursed brothers is so cool to me, she switches from cocky to showing her true emotions of actually being thankful). And she is competent and strong on top of that. This is how you write a female character in a shounen. The mixture of feminine and strength was explained in the video better than I ever could, so no need to further comment on that.

I cannot overstate the fact that THIS is how you write a female protagonist in Shonen. That is why Nobara is an icon. She is among one of the most well written and realistic characters.

So, the reason why the straw doll was not needed in those cases against Eso and Mahito is because what's really needed for Ressonance is an effigy. While the straw doll is normally used as the effigy, against Eso she used her own body instead, and against Mahito, the clone was used as both the effigy and the body part necessary for the technique to work. I love how tactical her usage of the technique can be sometimes, just hope she can come back so we can get more of this Queen's quick-thinking maneuvers.
She still uses the Straw Doll against Eso when she helps finish if him. The straw doll is mostly for aiming at specific parts. She even used it without the doll on Yasohachi Bridge Curse as well.
i could totally see this fatal injury as her turning point as a sorcerer just like gojo's fatal injury in hidden inventory. in fact, her learning to use reversed cursed techniques would open up so many possibilities for her straw dolls as well as put her up to par with megumi and yuji, she even talks about understanding the 'core of cursed energy' just as gojo had been trying to
From a writing perspective, I feel like giving any sort of second chance on survival and then going "Oh yeah no they died on the operating table while we were trying to save them" is a very anticlimactic way. If she was actually to be killed I feel like she would've been just killed off there.
It depends on what the writers intentions are. If the author truly did want to break the readers heart, there is potential for a secondary final farewell with the character at the downturn of the arc.

After standing in the line between life and death in his fight against Toji, Gojo managed to discover the true essence of cursed energy, so I wonder if now Nobara, who already has a pretty strong grasp of her own cursed energy, will do something similar.
Doubt it the creator in an interview *spoiler* Stated she’s dead. She also shows up on a color page with mahito as a doll along side Junpei and Nanami who both die to him. There’s also the current chapter when when asked about her condition Megumi doesn’t answer and Yuji says “I see so that’s how it is” which isn’t something you’d say about someone alive and recovering. I want her to be alive but it’s not looking too good.

I had this conversation with my brother, how as a fans, she's too good to be just killed off like that, like Gojo himself said that she look forward for those 3, not only Yuuji, in Jujutsu world, which mean there's this potential that even Gojo acknowledge from Nobara. But as a fan of story telling, having her dead, would've triggered some type of story that both Megumi and Yuuji cannot even predict. I mean even if, somehow someway gojo managed to find a way to get out, to find out that one of his students died during that battle that he failed to win, would've triggered Gojo so much. i like nobara a lot because she looks like the kind of girl i'd be friends with. she's goofy but she's firm and confident as well. i also really like her ideals too, how she can unapologetically be herself. it bothers me when people boil her down to just being 'masculine' because she's tough and aggressive. anger isn't limited to men, after all.

It would be more dramatic if she manages to meet up with Yuji and Megumi when they meet Hakari and ask for help. My god could you imagine the drama potential for the trio during the arc. But i think she’s going alone.

It would feel like a waste of a character, not to mention that it would make you question why Junpei was ever included in the story (as both he and Nobara would basically serve the same reason: be a good buddy for Yuuji, only for them to be killed by Mahito, who proceeds to get a power-up but gets clobbered by an angry Yuuji)

First of all, I’m happy you made this video. Nobara tends to get a lot of slander, and I’m always happy when people look deeper into her actual character and don’t just judge her for her fights. Second of all, those panels from chapter 3 really show how much Akutami’s style changed over the series. Chapter 3 Nobara looks nothing like current Nobara.
I can finally watch this video. I'd be lying if I said I didn't love Nobara and she wasn't my favorite. Her strength stands out where it isn't obnoxious or hurtful. When she was fighting haruta In the manga she couldnt even defeat him without Nanami's help. Her fight with a mahito clone gives her a better advantage for her technique again but she still couldn't defeat it just held her own and got tricked by mahito. At that time would've been a perfect time for her to shine and look OP. But Compared to yuji and Megumi she just doesnt have special feats at all and Gege just gave her black flash to make her look good. But later on in the manga Gege just forgets about her and focuses on Maki. The only reason why maki came back is because she has heavenly restrictions on her body. The only reason Nobara gets so much Love is because shes confident and cares for the people around her. Her past is even annoying and boring Gege should've done a better Job with how she found out how to use her technique and maybe he couldve added special feats back then but all he did was make a story up with some random chick that we dont know what happens to her at end. Now Gege has to think of a way to bring her back into the manga which would be hard to do because If Nanami is dead she gotta stay dead too.

Nobara's technique is an excellent example of how Jujutsu is a discipline heavily focused on optimizing ones cursed technique, as described in chapter 223. Her grandmother almost certainly taught her the complete and traditional technique, all the conditions and ritual and prerequisites included, and Nobara trained this technique herself, reducing the requirements to use the technique until she could use it effectively and efficiently in jujutsu combat.
I always like Nobara's design, powers, and voice actor, but I never loved her backstory and motivation. Thanks for shedding some more light so I can appreciate her character.
3:37 NOBARA KUGISAKI "She goes shopping during her free time." "She tries a lot of foods, buys a lot of clothes and is enjoying her life in Tokyo." If you take these descriptions out of Noabara's character and give it to any random generic anime girl all I can see is an stereotyped loli/cute girl with pigtails and a bright colorful hair. But Nobara is so well written that by just being both cute and strong gives a masterclass of character writing. Everyone should take lessons from Akutami about writing girls/women.
What I love about Nobara is the fact she proves a character with great personality with great strength is what truly makes a character. Not either making her fan service.

Just got done watching the first season of the anime and dude… that season finale made her my favorite character. I literally jumped when she introduced the “game of chicken”. At first, I wasn't impressed with Nobara's power. "Like a hammer and nail? OK..." BUT the way she did some cool and badass shit with it made my jaw DROP. The way the JJK author writes female characters is revolutionary; especially in the Shounen genre. They are strong in their own right and can carry their own weight where possible. These are women that got sass, ambition, and strength to back up. And when they get beat down, not once did I see any one of them beg for help.
I love Nobara so much, she's feminine and yet she refused to not be strong, that speech during her fight with Miwa, how she doesn't care about how Man and Woman should've behave, expectations and standard that public made, she couldn't care less. She just know she love dressing up, being all pretty and still kicking ass because she's Nobara Kugisaki 🔥
I’ve heard some people say Kugisaki was ruined after her injury and how she’s like Sakura, waiting in the wings while the MEN do the fighting. I agree that I don’t like how Gege has sidelined her for THIS LONG after teasing her possible recovery, but while Sakura was sidelined by Kishimoto due to Naruto and Sasuke getting so ridiculous as the enemies got more ridiculous, giving her no real way to participate and leaving her to pray and cry as they fight, Kugisaki is sidelined due to being in a GODDAMN COMA, she not not fighting because the enemies are too strong, she’s not even choosing to not fight, she is literally incapable of fighting on account of the frigging coma. I’m not trying to start any arguments, I just hate how people are dismissing the facts to diss Kugisaki as “another useless shonen girl”. (An aside, I don’t actually dislike Sakura, but Kishimoto dropped the ball)
While I won't defend the people dismissing her character, I will say that the blame ultimately lies on Gege for fridging her the way he did. She may not have been useless, but being killed (at the expense of her character) for the sake of giving the main male lead "angst" is still one of the WORST female writing tropes in storytelling. It speaks to how badly her death was done, and is, unfortunately, a stain on her legacy to many people. The fact that her death wasn't even given the respect it deserved after the arc is another reason why people have a hard time looking back on her with respect themselves. "If the series didn't care about her, then I'm going to spare myself the pain and not be invested either." I imagine their logic lies somewhere along those lines.

out of all the female anime characters that i've seen i think nobara is the most relatable for me, not having the slim shady body but instead having a bit more muscles and being brutal and honest to her opponents is so refreshing to see, she's not as emotionally weak as many girls (who easily cry from just hearing another person's backstory or some shit, yk?). overall she just reminds me of myself and my friends. sorry if this doesn't make any sense, my mind just goes haywire when i think abt nobara LMAO.

i like nobara a lot because she looks like the kind of girl i'd be friends with. she's goofy but she's firm and confident as well. i also really like her ideals too, how she can unapologetically be herself. it bothers me when people boil her down to just being 'masculine' because she's tough and aggressive. anger isn't limited to men, after all.
Same, I hate that. Having an aggressive personality isn't solely a guy thing. Just because she doesn't act like a typical anime girl, doesn't make her any less a girl. If anything, she's closer to how some real girls behave.

And Nobara who is both powerful after the hit, but lost self confidence due to her injury. Decides to go to the Tokyo colony to save them. It would be more dramatic if she manages to meet up with Yuji and Megumi when they meet Hakari and ask for help. My god could you imagine the drama potential for the trio during the arc. But i think she’s going alone.

It would feel like a waste of a character, not to mention that it would make you question why Junpei was ever included in the story (as both he and Nobara would basically serve the same reason: be a good buddy for Yuuji, only for them to be killed by Mahito, who proceeds to get a power-up but gets clobbered by an angry Yuuji)

When she was fighting haruta In the manga she couldnt even defeat him without Nanami's help. Her fight with a mahito clone gives her a better advantage for her technique again but she still couldn't defeat it just held her own and got tricked by mahito. At that time would've been a perfect time for her to shine and look OP. But Compared to yuji and Megumi she just doesnt have special feats at all and Gege just gave her black flash to make her look good. But later on in the manga Gege just forgets about her and focuses on Maki. The only reason why maki came back is because she has heavenly restrictions on her body. The only reason Nobara gets so much Love is because shes confident and cares for the people around her. Her past is even annoying and boring Gege should've done a better Job with how she found out how to use her technique and maybe he couldve added special feats back then but all he did was make a story up with some random chick that we dont know what happens to her at end. Now Gege has to think of a way to bring her back into the manga which would be hard to do because If Nanami is dead she gotta stay dead too.

If you take these descriptions out of Noabara's character and give it to any random generic anime girl all I can see is an stereotyped loli/cute girl with pigtails and a bright colorful hair. But Nobara is so well written that by just being both cute and strong gives a masterclass of character writing. Everyone should take lessons from Akutami about writing girls/women.

At first, I wasn't impressed with Nobara's power. "Like a hammer and nail? OK..." BUT the way she did some cool and badass shit with it made my jaw DROP.
The way the JJK author writes female characters is revolutionary; especially in the Shounen genre. They are strong in their own right and can carry their own weight where possible. These are women that got sass, ambition, and strength to back up. And when they get beat down, not once did I see any one of them beg for help.

I’ve heard some people say Kugisaki was ruined after her injury and how she’s like Sakura, waiting in the wings while the MEN do the fighting.
I agree that I don’t like how Gege has sidelined her for THIS LONG after teasing her possible recovery, but while Sakura was sidelined by Kishimoto due to Naruto and Sasuke getting so ridiculous as the enemies got more ridiculous, giving her no real way to participate and leaving her to pray and cry as they fight, Kugisaki is sidelined due to being in a GODDAMN COMA, she not not fighting because the enemies are too strong, she’s not even choosing to not fight, she is literally incapable of fighting on account of the frigging coma.
I’m not trying to start any arguments, I just hate how people are dismissing the facts to diss Kugisaki as “another useless shonen girl”.
(An aside, I don’t actually dislike Sakura, but Kishimoto dropped the ball)
While I won't defend the people dismissing her character, I will say that the blame ultimately lies on Gege for fridging her the way he did.
She may not have been useless, but being killed (at the expense of her character) for the sake of giving the main male lead "angst" is still one of the WORST female writing tropes in storytelling. It speaks to how badly her death was done, and is, unfortunately, a stain on her legacy to many people. The fact that her death wasn't even given the respect it deserved after the arc is another reason why people have a hard time looking back on her with respect themselves. "If the series didn't care about her, then I'm going to spare myself the pain and not be invested either." I imagine their logic lies somewhere along those lines.
