Nice "head "sized bowl. Love watching your channel which I have subscribed to. To everyone else out there in Utubeland, I always measure the moisture in my wood. Wood will move enough just hollowing out the bowl but further drying will cause more warping to the point the bowl will rock on it's foot. Not good. Wood dries about 3/4 to 1 inch per year so after 7 months you stock is not properly dried. I almost always use a tenon and rarely a mortise unless i have a thin piece of wood. I put the chuck on belore I turn the wood around to make sure the chuck doesn't' wobble. If it wobbles, I use a spindle gouge to fine tune the tenon and retry the chuck. Then when you turn the bowl around it won't hardly wobble. Especially important on thin rimmed bowls or puting on a fancy lip . I use the same Nova chuck and it works perfectly fine. In fact, I have many because I get sick and tired of changing out the jaws for different size tenons. My rule of thumb is the tenon is 35% of the diameter of the bowl and at least 3/16 - 1/4 in. deep. No Failures!
Nice bowlPeggy! I hAve turned a lot of cherry as it is plentiful here as is walnut, beech, etc. It's nice to see the contrast of different woods. Good job and look forward to seeing many more from you!
Your craftsmanship and artistry are amazing; the fact that you can see the potential of a lump of wood and have the skills to release its beauty for the rest of us to see and enjoy makes you great. Have you ever considered collaborating with art educators or participating in a STEAM / STEM program? Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace
I bought the curved rest last year...and the j rest at the same time. I love them both but gravitate to the j rest more often. I always love your creations. This one is lovely!
I've turned cherry a few times but mine was darker red than yours. It required sharp tools but the grain was fantastic! Your bowl looks great and I agree that simple forms are the most beautiful. Stuart
I seem to turn mostly cherry and walnut, both of these have a fine grain and turn out beautiful. I got some Acks polishing paste, I really like it and was surprised that in the CNY woodworkers club that some members has not even heard of it. Popular finishes in the club are shellac, Osmo (expensive) and wipe on poly (gasp).
Well turned, great bowl. I find the simple ones sells the best, esp. if customers can use them. I don't often sell pieces that are just mantle pieces, I think it's due to people worried about them getting damaged, and they want something they can use.
Cherry is my favorite wood to turn. I like the color and the smell of the wood. I can't seem to figure out how to share a photo here. Sorry. Thanks for another nice project.
Love the cherry grain in this piece, plus the bark remnant really adds to the beauty. Great turning! Your process dialog is excellent as always! Thank You!
I use a Super Nova 2 chuck for most of my projects but I'm looking to get a G3 for smaller projects and I'm also looking at a Oneway for larger out board turning projects.
Very nice bowl! I enjoy turning cherry. I have Nova, one way, and easy wood chucks. The one ways are nice and heavy. I use the Novas for smaller turnings. I just got the Easywood, but I like the quick change capability.
Beautiful piece, Peggy! One of the first things I turned which didn't end up in the burn pile was a cherry burl bowl for my grandmother. Great stuff to work with.
I've got a good-sized section of cherry log standing outside my shop. I'm hoping to get some spalting in it, but I've never seen spalted cherry, so idk if it's possible. I've gotten some awesome looking spalting in some beech wood that I've done the same thing to.
Another beautiful bowl; love the cherry! I noticed that looked like a new jar of Ack's Finishing Paste- is that the first use of the new formula? Let us all know how different it is to work with! It certainly looks great.
I find cherry hard to turn. when dried it is dense and hard. In part my difficulties are probably due to the 'midi' lathe I use; not just enough mass to deal with the material. Nice bowl. Always instructive to watch and learn.
So to me it was just cheaper to purchase a second (well third really) chuck to avoid the jaw swapping. I’m using 2 record power sc4 chucks and also a oneway stronghold. So i don’t really need to change jaws now :-)
I love that black top! I love the bowl! I shared the video to FB. You called that last chuck Longworth? Is that a brand name? I have always heard them called Cole Jaws. I am not a wood worker, tho I would love to be. I do so enjoy watching turner's channels! You deserve to hit 100k subs!
I use the G-3 and the EasyWood, as well. And of course, shop made (jam chucks, rests, etc.). Like them all for various applications. I am retired and not a production turner so the fast jaw change feature is a non-starter for me as a selling point. I'd get the Robust curved rest if money wasn't a factor but I already have an S rest that works well enough for what I need. Looks like this blank was wetter on the inside but that goes with the territory. Did you buy the neg rake scraper or regrind a standard scraper? I do turn a fair amount of cherry because I do much of my furniture work in cherry and use offcuts as turning blanks. You'll get to 100k because you are a very friendly presence with interesting projects. Sorry for the long comment but it's Sunday and I have a fresh cup of coffee. Lovely chapeau, by the bye! And the Kilroy!
Like your shape and the bark. Have you reviewed your laguna 18-36? I'm interested in their 24-36 and am curious about your experience with their lathe.
OMG! I just saw your merch on Spreadshop! Why don't you have the tote in a purple, like the women's classic sport top? Why don't you have that shirt in 3x or 4x or... I would snap them up! Edit: I say "why don't you", but I understand that you may not have direct control over the choices. However, could you give them some suggestions?
Good work as always. Say, with Spring just around the corner, you might want to start wearing a bikini. Only thinking of you reaching 100K subs of course.
Nice bowl! I've turned some cherry root and, while it is beautiful wood, I cannot stand the aroma. The whole shop smelled exactly like what childrens' cherry flavored cough syrup tasted like in the '50s! Hated it then, can't stand it now. Nice bowl, though, in any case. 👍

Love turning cherry...my favorite wood to turn. That bowl will darken up beautiful...
Cool, thanks!
I like glue block myself. I like to drill a hole for my depth. Tape on the drill bit for distance. Then hollow out the inside.
I really like the little accent of the black Starbond, and the area of the bark as well. Lovely bowl.
Thanks!! ✌️

Great job on the piece and I love the dialogue 👌
Thank you so much!
I love the color of the cherry. The inclusion of bark makes it special.
Thanks!
I like the way there's an X in the bottom of the bowl
Me too!
Great job, like the bark on it
Thanks 👍

Thanks, Cat. I’ve considered teaching before, but haven’t really done it besides one on one here and there.
It turned out awsome. Gotta love turning cherry ! Here In NC I find alot that folks are discarding . Always free for the taking lol...
Cool!!

I have the Easy Wood chuck...love it.
Thanks!! That’s what I hear from people who use it
I've turned cherry a few times but mine was darker red than yours. It required sharp tools but the grain was fantastic! Your bowl looks great and I agree that simple forms are the most beautiful.

Awesome! Thank you!
Lovely bowl...I love turning Cherry, especially burls! I just finished a Buckeye Burl bowl today...
Nice! I bet it’s beautiful!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice
Thanks 👍
Nice work! P.O.!!
✌
Love your quirky humor! Oh, the bowl is simple and lovely!
Thanks so much! 😊
Nice bowl, Peggy. Not quite fashionable for a hat but nice just the same. I like your humor at the end.
Bill
Glad you like it!
The woodturner knows best what the chunk of wood wants to be!
I have nova G3, Super Nova 2, and Nova Titan chuck. They all work great.
Good to know!
Very nice bowl. I’m with you on the small patch of bark. Looks great. Well done, Peggy!
Thanks so much! 😊

Beautiful bowl Peggy!!! I personally love turning Cherry...especially Black Cherry.
Thanks!
I have the ez wood chuck and love it. Beautiful turning!
Right on!
Looks great, Cherry is my favorite to turn. Very forgiving wood, the older it gets the darker red it turns.
Thanks!
Well turned, great bowl. I find the simple ones sells the best, esp. if customers can use them. I don't often sell pieces that are just mantle pieces, I think it's due to people worried about them getting damaged, and they want something they can use.
True. ✌️
Really nice bowl Peggy well done. Love turning cherry, it always smells nice.
Thanks so much 😊
Joli chapeau 🤗
LOL!
I’m in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and have an endless supply of black cherry. To bad it cracks if you look at it wrong!
Ohhhh!!!
nice wor as alaways I have never turn cherry but may have to try soon
👍🏻
I have an entire cherry tree that died last year and I can't wait to fell it and start turning some.
Happy turning!
Cherry is my favorite wood to turn. I like the color and the smell of the wood. I can't seem to figure out how to share a photo here. Sorry. Thanks for another nice project.
No worries. Thanks!
I have the Easy wood tool Chuck and I love it. Have 3 different sets of jaws and they are so easy to change. Customer service is outstanding too.
Thanks for the info!

Cherry is some nice wood too turn,
Enjoyed the video 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
What a gorgeous bowl, Peggy! I agree, the bark does add a nice texture to it. Great job! 💜
Thanks so much 😊
Nice work Peg. I do a lot of cherry and also teach turning, Acks is good stuff too. If I put a link in the comment fails.
Thanks!
Very nice Peggy.. 👍 Simplicity equals elegance. Have you ever watched Phil Anderson / Shady Acres Workshop? I like his art pieces. Best wishes.
Yes I have! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful bowl Peggy. The bark makes a really nice feature.Well done as always😊
Thanks so much 😊
Looks great. I like the way the wood grain formed and X in the center of the bowl
Thank you very much!
Love the way this cherry bowl turned out. 🤭
I hope to get to experience how cherry turns one day. Maybe I'll make that a goal for 2023. 😁
Go for it!!
Very nice work! Have not turned cherry yet. I have a couple of Vicmarc chucks. They are very good chucks.
Thanks 👍
a very nice hat.🤭
Ha!
Very nice Peggy! I"m in Florida and don't see much Cherry here, more Camphor than you can shake a stick at though...
Cool!
I use a Super Nova 2 chuck for most of my projects but I'm looking to get a G3 for smaller projects and I'm also looking at a Oneway for larger out board turning projects.
👍
Very nice bowl Peggy ……. Always enjoy watching you turn ✌🏼🤠
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
I heard of Cherry n the cake but not Cherry on the Peggy. Nice, turn, some good shots of the tool presentation too.
Thanks, Alan.
Another beautiful creation Peggy. I always look forward to your vids. 👍✌️
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful simplicity. I really like it
Thank you! 😊
Very nice bowl. Love the finish, and the bark that’s left.
Thanks!
Beautiful bowl. ❤
Thank you! 😊
Love the process! Love the finished piece!
Thanks so much!
Very nice bowl! I enjoy turning cherry. I have Nova, one way, and easy wood chucks. The one ways are nice and heavy. I use the Novas for smaller turnings. I just got the Easywood, but I like the quick change capability.

Very pretty! And yes, the black starbond(?) looks really nice with the light-colored wood - keep up the great work! :)
Thanks! ✌️
love your work and your positive add. / are you looking for any kind of dry wood ?
So to me it was just cheaper to purchase a second (well third really) chuck to avoid the jaw swapping. I’m using 2 record power sc4 chucks and also a oneway stronghold. So i don’t really need to change jaws now :-)
Good point!
I have the easy wood chuck only two sets of jaws
Do you like it?
Yes ma’am I’m glad I bought it, I had another one but easy wood chuck is so much easier (pardon the pun) to use
Thanks very much. Yes, I'm not sure if longworth is the brand or just the name, though.
How are you liking the Harvey dust collector?
Love it!!!
Cherry is a great wood to turn, one of my favorite. Does Starbond come in brown? i have not seen it.
Yes, it comes in brown. Use the link in the video description to get a discount 😎
can you turn this green?? up here in northern Michigan I have access to plenty of fruit woods. apple, pear, plum, etc.....
You can turn green, yes. but you should only rough turn and then let dry until under about 12% MC.
I use the G-3 and the EasyWood, as well. And of course, shop made (jam chucks, rests, etc.). Like them all for various applications. Ha! Thanks. I bought the negative rake.
How do you like the dust shield? Worth the money?
Love it. Worth every penny. (I have a link to it, in the video description)
Why do you cut your sanding sealer
Preference, I think it looks better.
Really nice bowl Peggy. Do you like your Laguna lathe? I'm looking to upgrade.
Yes I do! I upgraded from a Jet 1221.
Yep. the bark turned out cool. (Hey, i might know a guy...you want me to have him have a talk with your brother.)
Lol!
superbe travail Peggy félicitation je pense que c est du cerisier je tourne actuellement du poirier sauvage c est bien aussi patrick
Thanks you!
Like your shape and the bark. Have you reviewed your laguna 18-36? I'm interested in their 24-36 and am curious about your experience with their lathe.
Not a formal review. But I've had it for a few years, no problems. It's solid.
OMG! I just saw your merch on Spreadshop! Why don't you have the tote in a purple, like the women's classic sport top? Why don't you have that shirt in 3x or 4x or... I would snap them up!
