I mean you should've at least learned how knockdown works, so you can then work from there to figure out things like tech chases or punishes. As well as learning the inner workings of how jab reset works which is vital for most of the cast as theres some punish that begins with a jab reset ie puff: jab-reset > rest, fox: jab-reset > up-smash, falcon: jab-reset > combo starter, shiek: jab-reset > down-throw, etc
Spectator here, I just want to be able to watch and instantly understand exactly why players do certain things or how certain interactions work. Makes the already sick gameplay even better

"transitions directly into get-up if the attack deals less than 13 hitstun" now i understand why Falcon can jab reset himself but not spacies Falcon's jab does 14h on Fox and Falco so they can buffer roll away and avoid the forced getup however it does 13h on Falcon and Sheik it also does 13h on Marth but Marth's lower gravity can't compensate for the knockback, so he avoids the jab reset a difference of just one frame in terms of hitstun could've made the Falcon vs spacies MU *much* easier lol
Aziz is so thoroughly a Fox main now that I can only imagine he did something hugely symbolic like throw his electric guitar into a volcano after staring into it pensively for 8 minutes when he made the decision to drop Falcon for good.
I can't express enough how much you do for the nouveux melee scene. Every Doc kid and rollback scrub trying to get better at the game needs to watch your videos. You're doing a great thing for the community.
Great video Hax!! I love your channel and these scripts! Just a small grammar correction if i may. You should say, for example, 'if he HAD entered downdamage...' instead of 'if he WOULD HAVE entered downdamage...' The formula for the past conditional comes in two parts: 'if he had ____, he would have _______' and sometimes we mix them up. Cheers!
bro I was literally just wandering why dair shine wouldn't work sometimes, and why they would become actionable so fast after getting hit with shine. thanks hax
Honestly, with all the things that were learned about Melee since its release, you could make a college course following it and that still won't be enough time to learn everything
This videos are awesome hax! I research stuff on smash 64 and always get new ideas to test from your vids. Btw, in smash 64 characters always stay grounded during no-tech. Usually the mechanics are much more simple.
I recently picked up Falcon and have been frustrated at the "randomness" of getting a follow-up off of stomp after missed tech. This helps a lot! I'm not good enough to take advantage of the anti-floorhugging technique in the same way, say, Leffen or Hbox are, but now I know to at least try and aim for the aerial frames of GroundBound when using nonspike moves ^_^
@@rangodash for fun! My hands and brain aren't fast enough for Fox, but I wanted a change from Marth, and Falcon's combo game is really satisfying (and pretty easy lol)
@@Pslamist he's so cool! It took me a while to understand that being on a platform wasn't a bad thing - Marth so seldomly wants to be anywhere other than the ground
If the staleness adds multiplicatively then the actual percent down would be ~38% down or 62.8% of original attack strength with 9 stales. It would only be 45 if the percents were added and then multiplied and maybe they are I’m honestly not sure but it matters for the math.
Fucking love your videos and everything you bring to Melee. Even love your clickbait ass titles. You have like a patreon or something I know Hax fucking money doesn't need handouts but I'd love a method to show my support other than the unwavering love and passion we share for this game.
I mean half of the characters are practically unviable competitively, 6 out of 18 stages are tournament legal, and none of the major tech skills (L-cancel, jump cancel, wave dash, etc) are mentioned anywhere in the game or the official manual. I think it was overall an accident, although certain high-skill moves that benefit competitive play were added intentionally, like L-canceling and wave dashing.

I would've thought the strangest state in Melee would be North Carolina, but this makes more sense.

There is so much knowledge here, and so little ability to implement it in any meaningful way.

The jab reset stuff on whether you could roll is definitely intuitively implementable.

It's just interesting and fun to watch I suppose
i need a 10 hour lo-fi vid of hax$ explaining advanced melee tech in his sultry deep voice

Stop watching; start playing.
Remember the old days of Melee where frame data for moves/getup was already considered holy knowledge?
It's come a long way in twenty years.
Nobody can say this isn't the most nuanced fighting game of all-time..
you might be right but let me try:
"this is the most nuanced fighting game of all-time"
nope. it just auto-corrected every time i tried.
"transitions directly into get-up if the attack deals less than 13 hitstun"
now i understand why Falcon can jab reset himself but not spacies
Falcon's jab does 14h on Fox and Falco so they can buffer roll away and avoid the forced getup

This is such an indepth video. It's crazy that melee is still be analyzed to such a high level to this very day. Love the content Hax.
Hax uploads execution testing me seeing how fast i can click on 'em
I swear, eventually melee players gonna be able to count frames during gameplay
Thats pretty much what every high skilled melee player does to get frame perfect execution
I was hoping there would be a joke about how the Arizona smash scene is the strangest state in SSBM
