- Hey guys! Todays video is me showing you have to extend those annoying Ikea drawers! In this video I will be extending the drawer on my Ikea Malm Vanity, used by many beauty gurus. If you own this vanity you know how annoying it is because you cannot pull it all the way out and you're missing around 4-4'5" of space in the back.

Shister Ty Next I heard it was to keep the drawers sturdy and so they would not fall over being that makeup can get really heavy. However I don’t know of anyone that is satisfied with their drawers the way they come.

Thank you! I can finally see to the back of my drawer! I broke the metal piece as well but I just super glued it back on and it seems to be fine. The drawer just doesn’t open as smooth as it once did but it’s worth it to be able to use the whole thing

hey I was wondering instead of cutting the rolling thing in half, would it work if I cut off 4 and only left 2 (2 on each side)? would the table open more?

How many inches of unused drawer space is supposed to be left inside the back of drawer? We may have missed something, but we still have 2.5 inches of unused space. Is that all we get?

lol thank you! and if you are talking about the wire cutter, the tool I used to cut the piece in half, then that didn't come with it I had to get that from my father.

the black thing is what stops your drawer from opening all the way. You can see it in the video when she talks about it.
Thanks! I read about this years ago, I think on that Ikea hackers forum, but your video made me want to finally try it! (Actually I begged my boyfriend to do it.) Did you find that when you put the drawer back in, after being all the way out, that you can't push it from too far left or too far right? Like, it closes crooked if I don't push from in the center. If I push back in from the left side, only the left side goes on & then the drawer is cock-eyed. Maybe we did something wrong?
No mines does that as well. I always push it from the center and have no issues. I still have the same vanity and the drawer is fine!!

Girl …. Can’t stress enough, wear gloves. It is dumb but your hand slips and a cut with the metal is painful. Been there and it hurts. Don’t ruin your pretty hands.

It seems this hack effects the stability of the drawer when being pulled out. Have you figured out a way to make it sturdier with the extension?
@zenn6656 curious to know as well before I buy this. Did you find a hack to make it more sturdy?
I still have this same vanity, over six years, and it’s filled with makeup and I’ve had no problem with the drawers not being sturdy! It doesn’t hang low when pulled out or anything.

Did you ever get it to work? I just superglue mine in place against the other piece of metal. Gotta wait for it to dry 100%. I cant believe I was so excited to build it and set it up, only to eff it up so bad that the drawer will fly off if this tiny metal piece isnt there.

You can try e6000 glue and try to just glue the piece back up there. It should hold the metal piece there

@@IlesiaLewis idk how she has such a hard time with the pran ,mine fell right off lol. just pt the dresser together and I"ll actually use glue to secure the white stops and i I think it'll be fine.
Silvana Roberson I will try glue... I just put it together and as long as I don’t pull to hard it is fine. They must have changed how they made that part since she made this video because mine just popped off very easily.
Theres literarly other holes you could have chosen! No need to cut anything.
