about a month latter ...got my knife back and the spring and handle is new ...it was the same blade. everything was as new and great working order...im very pleased and would buy another blade from them no problem
Jimping is the jagged notches on top of the blade that digs into your thumb so you can get a better hold on the blade. Spyderco usually does them on their thumb ramps. Watch some of Nutnfancy's videos on a spyderco knife and you will see what it is. Hope that helped.
i've had the pack rat for a good long time, and i used to EDC it. it is an awesome knife for the money, very ergonomic, speed safe, decent blade steel. great blade!
I have always carried Old Timers my whole life. After 10 years with the one I have now, the blade broke. I go to the schrade web site and find out Old Timers are now being made in China. That is a dissappointment. They are going to mail me a new knife, with a small fee of $6.95. I will take it, but, now I am looking into a new assisted opening blade. After this awesome review, maybe I will give Kershaw a shot. Great vid as usual. Rock on TNP.
Looks like the handle and liner construction are very similar to the ZT0350 in material and thickness. I especially like the liner to blade thickness ratio. Beware: on my 0350, the pivot screw tension had to be adjusted to the point where the screw would free-wheel in the hole in order for the assisted deploy to work smoothly. I had to use Loctite to keep the screw in the hole. Check the pivot screw tension before you buy to ensure that the screw is not so loose that it will fall out with use.
Another great review, I just bought a 10" Kershaw outcast...awesome! best chopper i've used. I actually checked the TNP page while i was in the store to see if if it was on there.
i hope so as stated, it sounds very positive and that real world stuff...standing behind products, and warranties, sounds good and positive merry christmas to all and happy hearts
I am a huge Kershaw fan. Cut boxes and then shave your arm. I never sharpen, just hone. I shipped them 2 knives for warr repair and they just shipped me new ones. Very Good customer service. Show more Kershaw TNP!!!
Kershaw/ZT/Shun has one of the best warranties on knives that I have seen. I have ZT 0400 that I just dropped off at their headquarters (I was passing by) because the torsion bar broke on it. They fixed it in 20 min but said the blade was pretty worn and would like to replace it. They didn't have any blades so the offered to mail the knife to me when they did. 10 days later I (this monday) I recieved a 100% brand new knife. I guess they decided the old one was too worn to try to replace.
Depends on the type of bullet, bullet caliber, etc VS the knife's size and weight. For instance, if you've seen Fitzen's knives, those things will cut you in half. Generally, it's not the stab that kills someone, but the removal of the blade, "freeing" severed vessels and blood loss. Gunshot wounds just suck in general, but given the choice of something that kills me, I'll take a bullet.
@TheGeminiLounge Now there's only one left. I bought two for myself. Have you found out anything on the orange g10 ones? i can't even find a reference to them and the black is going 39-45.00. Kinda weird, but I should have my first one in today, or at least by Tuesday.
The blade shape reminds me of a fishing fillet style. I bought the Kershaw Skyline after Nutn's last review. Dang, this is a little too close to the Skyline, but it deploys faster and do prefer that bulbous ended handle. For my hands, the Skyline is a bit too narrow on the palm side of the handle. But this packrat improves on it. The Skyline is only 2.4oz though compared to the packrat's 3.5. Made in America and date coded - Yee! I could be real happy with either. Another fine review Nutn!
My packrat is starting to rust after a couple of years. How do you guys clean the rust off of it and what's the best way to keep it from rusting in the future? (Other than keeping h2o off it!).
Kershaw usually makes high quality products I knew what this review was going to be like even before I clicked it. Granted I dont agree with nutnfancy sometimes but I agree with his taste in gear.
If Kershaw put some jimping on this, got rid of the horrid thumb studs and replaced it with a thumb hole spyderco style (which would require a higher thumb ramp which I would also like) then the design would be absolutely top notch. As it is I still like it though.
I don't know why people wont like the shape of the overall knife. To me, personally, I think it's streamlined. I think that's cool that Kershaw is looking out for the people who think "I like my knife and all, but I would like it more if it was more aero-dynamic looking".
Here's why I deactivated speedsafe in my Clash- I have two small children in the house. The only other reason there may be to do that is with the flipper design it is more prone to opening in your pocket.
So, for the people saying that it's over $40. This video was made a bit over 4 years ago. Supply And Demand comes into play. I'm sure this knife has been discontinued and with that comes lesser numbers, it gets more popular, more people want it, it's harder to fine, the price rises. There's your answer.
Did Nutn do a review on the Kershaw Barrage? He references a few times in this video and certainly makes it sound like he's done one on it. I recently bought one at Walmart and couldn't find a review of it. I've searched for it high and low and can't find it - if its out there, could someone send me a link?
I have seen this knife around and never really liked the look of the serations I just didnt think they would be good for cutting so i always get a regular fine edge knife, but i will have to get one of these and try it out, thanks nutn cool looking knife 5*s. D2 should be sharpened with diamond hones, its just makes things easier because D2 is so hard.
Definitely! Time for a Xmas presents review by Nutnfancy. BTW, I don't like the fact that there's no jimping on the Christmas tree. There should be some purposeful jimping, that would help a lot in a tactical scenario. Maybe I'll put my Dremel to it ^^
I wanted one of these after seeing this vid. I looked at the bay this morning and found this for 29.95 + 3.95 shipping! And the kicker is, it is an ORANGE G-10! And they were just listed Feb 7th. I can't find then anywhere in orange, so I don't know what's up. However the seller had 10 + left, so go to the bay and do a search on kershaw packrat, and look for the orange ones! Big Pic in on the search page, can't miss it. does any one know if the orange a special edition?
seansobes, I would disagree on rather being shot than stabbed. It is a lot easier to treat trauma from a knife wound than a gun wound. You tend to get a lot more complications from gun shot wounds.
Once again, a well made video with great info and opinions. Kudos to you sir for rocking so hard. When are you going to get that camera and dog up into them thur hills and knock out another video seriesmountain stream trout fishing maybe? Also, have you thought about getting stank dog her own little camera for some dogs eye view action? would make a good intro. Thanks for what you do.
Nobody, Nobody, beats Kershaw for unpretentious value knives, (specifically their USA models.) I LOVE Spyderco, and really like Benchmade, but nobody else has USA- made knives with GREAT materials, (LOVE SandviK steel,) for $35-60. Buck has some great knives at low prices, too, but their QC is a little hit or miss on their modern, (non -110,) lineup.
@TheGeminiLounge Hope they do, too. I am looking for a skyline in red. Don't want the snap-on logo, but will take one cheap enough. Hopefully, will find one in the next few months. There is one on the bay, but it's already at 35.00, with 10.00 shipping. To buy that one would probably take 60.00 shipped. Too much for me as I have a black g10 skyline already.
My best friend is a lefty, I feel your pain - but one thing I noticed: he is a hell of a lot better with his right hand than I am with my left! It just sucks how much of a premium he has to pay on things like guitars for example, and how many companies limit choices. I think that there are enough lefties out there that you can really vote with your wallets - its the only thing companies seem to understand. Because someone so close to me has to deal with this crap, I've made a point to do so.
thank god he kept it 15 minutes i live nutn but sometimes his videos can go from cool to me loosing concentration from babbling like im back in high school watching some boring documentary
Watch Nutn's knife reviews then request new ones. It's pretty all in there: see the infamous CS Pocket Bushman as an example of a review of a design to avoid. BTW, you coulda make a LESS THAN RECOMMENDED playlist Nutn ^^
Ah-ha. You could always carry it in your pocket and flip it around before opening if it really floats your boat, but I understand the frustration with fumbling around with a knife before you can open it. I was fortunate enough to be born into this world a righty, but hey, at least you have spyderco... well, some spydercos.
something I've noticed...After you have already joined the clips with editing you tell us that you are going to. whats is up with that? sorry it's buggin' me for some reason.
Now thats what I call a happy review! :)
It's nice to see that You still enjoying this whole thing as we do! Rock on my Friend!
Wow, nutn' always gets me excited all over again about this wonderful hobby we share.
Great review Nutn! Very upbeat. You are the King of reviewers!
I don't know about you guys but I'm excited to see what Nutn gets for christmas. I can't wait for his reviews!
Banging out the reviews!!!
Good Job nutn! Thanks for all you do.
about a month latter ...got my knife back and the spring and handle is new ...it was the same blade. everything was as new and great working order...im very pleased and would buy another blade from them no problem
I love Kershaw! I just added this one to my Amazon wish list. Feel guilty about having so many knives, so will wait to buy this one.
Great review. I watched it more than once. I like the standardized folding knife talking points. Great job
Jimping is the jagged notches on top of the blade that digs into your thumb so you can get a better hold on the blade. Spyderco usually does them on their thumb ramps. Watch some of Nutnfancy's videos on a spyderco knife and you will see what it is. Hope that helped.
i've had the pack rat for a good long time, and i used to EDC it. it is an awesome knife for the money, very ergonomic, speed safe, decent blade steel. great blade!
dude.......... I needed my fix and you obliged me. Thank you Col!

Bought this knife today. Thanks for another great review!
Thank you nutnfancy for another superb review! :)

I carry a Kershaw Scallion for my edc, but after seeing this video, I am going to but the Packrat, I love the blade shape
i hope so as stated, it sounds very positive and that real world stuff...standing behind products, and warranties, sounds good and positive merry christmas to all and happy hearts
I've found that the Kershaw serrations are week at the tips and bend with medium to heavy use. Although Kershaw replaced the blade no questions asked.
Cabela's has a nice Kershaw on sale on their front page for like 19 bucks. I always pick up knives there when they are on sale because of the value.
I am a huge Kershaw fan. Cut boxes and then shave your arm. I never sharpen, just hone. I shipped them 2 knives for warr repair and they just shipped me new ones. Very Good customer service.
Show more Kershaw TNP!!!
i noticed that knife is stamped may 09 on the tang - looking down at my skyline i notice it is also stamped may 09 sorta cool!

I here you! Once Nutnfancy wraps you in his spider web of reviews, your done. No escape.
sweet its under 40 Min. I love Kershaw blades havnt been let down by one. Amazing value.
Make a video just for types of knife steels
Depends on the type of bullet, bullet caliber, etc VS the knife's size and weight. For instance, if you've seen Fitzen's knives, those things will cut you in half.

love kershaw's blades for EDC. scallion and skyline are excellent. have to try the packrat.
jimping is little ridges on the back of the blade for added grip
Nutn you're attracting me to collect these knives under a 3rd level of cool. "Nutnfancy approved"
love kershaw blades
great review as always
@TheGeminiLounge
Now there's only one left.

please review the kershaw field knife. it is basically this knife as a fixed blade.
REVIEW ALL YOUR KNIVES PLEASE!
We want to know which knives to avoid.
I misspoke on the weight: The packrat is 3.8oz compared to Skyline's 2.4oz (which is a balanced flipper design, but not assisted opening)
My packrat is starting to rust after a couple of years. How do you guys clean the rust off of it and what's the best way to keep it from rusting in the future? (Other than keeping h2o off it!).
oh man that's cool looking.
I wish it was possible to make an ergonomic kukri folder =(
i have the ken onion....the spring assist is worn ....im going to try the warenty now...mail it in and we see what happens now...
Kershaw usually makes high quality products I knew what this review was going to be like even before I clicked it.

i just googled that name and you friggin got me

I love the Drifter really lightweight but blade and handle could be bigger.
Great job as always Nutnfancy.
I really like you blades under $40 list. I'm adding some to my list..Christmas list that is :-)
Thanks
Hey Nutnfancy I do love this knife, however i wish it was in fact under $40... where
is a place i can find it cheaper then $50+??
Did Nutn do a review on the Kershaw Barrage? He references a few times in this video and certainly makes it sound like he's done one on it. I recently bought one at Walmart and couldn't find a review of it.

5 stars as usual. Thanks Nut'n.
9:39 I think you meant, "isn't frame lock."
Oh Crick, he's not offended at all! Not at all, he grins about it. -- Veri (Nutn' sister)
Would you say Kershaw is one of the highest value knife suppliers out there. Given they supply such great pieces at such low prices?
Great review,I love my 1670TBLKST Kershaw! Great value knives.
If they made an all black version, it would be perfect for me.
does anyone know where i can get those serrations put on my cold steel spartan?(all the way up the blade)
I want me a plain edge one. Kershaw is putting out a lot of cost effective high quality stuff
A DC job on this one in the future??? Good review. Thanks as always.
love this guys videos...... :) thanks man
i pull on the clip to pull my skyline out. is that bad for the knife?
is this knife illegal in the UK? I love it and really want it.
I have seen this knife around and never really liked the look of the serations I just didnt think they would be good for cutting so i always get a regular fine edge knife, but i will have to get one of these and try it out, thanks nutn cool looking knife 5*s.

Not yet, but right around the corner... -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
I think it was the Pinka that bit him. ;) -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
I was just thinkin, kinda goofy lookin. Then Nutn said it himself.
Love the vids as always.
I wonder why many vids that have just appeared
in my Sub List still have to process, while
this one already is processed and HQ..
Very nice looking i might get one soon. Maybe for xmas
i love my kershaw blades. 4 kershaws, all used ALOT! normal wear and tear.
ive had gerbers(all broken), benchmade(meh), spyderco(broken), sog(like it)
Definitely!
Time for a Xmas presents review by Nutnfancy.
BTW, I don't like the fact that there's no jimping on the Christmas tree. There should be some purposeful jimping, that would help a lot in a tactical scenario. Maybe I'll put my Dremel to it ^^

You need to review the Kershaw Rogue. Kick ass blade.
seansobes, I would disagree on rather being shot than stabbed. It is a lot easier to treat trauma from a knife wound than a gun wound. You tend to get a lot more complications from gun shot wounds.
You rock, Nutnfancy!

anything is a weapon if you hold it right.
another good knife review.
What does jimping mean?
3:00 ''Sick Sick Sick, the number of the beast!''
Nutnfancy doing an Iron Maiden cover.
crkt drifter or ka-bar dozier hunter? plz help!!!

Where did you get that nasty blister? =O
can this be a plain blade too?
Are g10 handles rubbery? It looks like it is in the video... Or are they more like plastic?
For me, I like Kershaw as edc, but Cold Steel for tactical stuffs, Mostly because I like the blade shapes. I'm a bit partial to kukri blades haha...
Error: Integer Overflow. Apparently great many ^^
same do they make one?
Yes, I found one on Ebay for $45, probably gonna buy it.
Who is this Jim Ping you keep mentioning?
Another great review Nutn. A++
Radioactive
thank god he kept it 15 minutes i live nutn but sometimes his videos can go from cool to me loosing concentration from babbling like im back in high school watching some boring documentary

for knives, i prefer a heavier one. as for guns, cant really tell you yet.
not a huge fan of Buck, of the several ones i own, the only one still intact is my sheath knife
you'll eventually have to remove the clip and bend it back to shape. But the knife itself will be allright.
got kind of a re-curve goin there . . thats gonna be wird to sharpen
