This knife is beautiful just from the photos and videos . when you finally hold this knife it's actually twice as nice. Built uber tough like all benchmades and frikin gorgeous in detail. This Knife really raises the bar.
I carry 3 blades & 3-4 guns at all times! I feel like I'm in a war zone in south FL. I also carry a flashlight (fenix) & a multi-tool(leatherman) (baton) My wife loves it . I have a family to protect.I have a community to look out for. I come from a family of LEOS. I have taken $50 per hour courses from a personal trainer at the range (no ego) over the past year to keep me "polished. After having my CWP for 25 years , I still feel humbled when a total pro educates me at the range.
this is a great blade...this is what I carry on duty everyday it works for many different functions and is a beautiful knife. It has rapid deployment and it takes one heck of a beating and keeps on going.
4:00 "Because a knife is a useful item!" True and true, Nutnfancy. My parents collect way too many things that they wanna pass down to me that are totally useless. You know why they call them "collectibles"? BECAUSE THEY COLLECT DUST! You rock, Nutnfancy.
Received the Benchmade 890 today and sitting here with it. I was looking for a good lock blade and based on Nutnancy's review, I picked up this one. I wanted good looks, functionality, and something that could be potentially tactical in a defensive situation. It's solid, good action and feels great in the hand. It came very sharp and feels very solid. It'll be my EDC. The G10 handles actually have good grip compared to other G10 I've held.
This is my EDC and I love it! The only negative is, like stated in the video, the scales are slick. You still get decent traction, but you can lose it quickly if you don't have a good grip on it.
Nutn' Your costing me a lot of money between your gun, rifle and knife reviews. Fortunately I am no longer married so the wife is not a problem. Seriously your reviews are very helpful in making a good buying decision. Keep up the good work. There are a lot of us that watch your reviews and make no comments.
This IS a pretty knife... and Benchmade always has superb fit and finish. I personally have found that I don't depend on jimping when using my knives so thats not a huge issue for me.
great review! I totally agree about that pocket clip - they use the same one on the dejavoo and I've scraped paint off of walls and doors numerous times(no cars so far thankfully).
i only have 6 knives and 2 of them are field dressing knives, and 2 more are swiss army knives. BUT i am getting an Ontario RTAK II for my birth day in about a month. i really like this benchmade here. great video review
cliffrex - nutn's time is valuable also, and he spends a LOT more of his time making these vids than people like us spend watching them, and while i agree that on occasion he does head off on tangents and waffle of a bit, that is his style, personally i reckon sitting through the odd vid where he takes longer than required is still a small price for us to pay for the amount of time this guy takes out of his life to put these vids up for the enthusiast community.
Just received my 890BK Torrent. I love the ergonomics and feel of the scales, and I love the blade shape in black. What I don't like is the nitrous assist, it seems like the spring just isn't stiff enough. Other than that it is an excellent knife.
My wife was much more understanding once I got something for her. I got her the Spyderco Ladybug. Cute name and many colors for the ladies. I got a pink Mini Griptilian for my daughter, and my wife wanted one of those too. Now she hardly says a thing about my knife addiction!
Just bought 812 of the first 1000, and it's gorgeous. Only nitpicks are that they easily could have made it ambidextrous, and that they lacked jimping.
Haha, "If I were a kid I would much rather get a knife collection from my dad than a stamp collection. " So true, and now my favorite nutnfancy quote. Well played.
if i could like this video twice...... i would. i dont have money to buy all the knives i want but i will pick up the good stuff when i can. i follow and i myself am an addict. guilty and proud! I think we as knife nuts and knife addicts i think we should start having meetings where we get together and talk knives. not to work through our "issue" because we dont care. LET'S TALK KNIVES FOLKS!!!!
I have a striker nitrous. It is tip down also. I think they may do it because if the assist deploys the blade, tip up, and you put you hand on the knife, you would slice your hand deeply. With the tip down deployment, if the assist accidentialy deployed the blade, you would not cut your hand.
As a child I used to collect coins, stamps, baseball cards, comic books, toys, etc. and then one day I said to myself "what good is all this stuff in the event of an emergency?" My collection has never been the same since!
You have every right to share your opinions and personal experiences. If I came across as bitchy, I apologize too. I have my moments. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
You can get a spare clip from benchmade if you ask them. That way you could sell it with the original clip, but have one set up for your carry preferences.
Some Guys love drinking Some Guys love golf Some Guys love other women Some Guys love expensive cars However we love guns and knives, By far the best of the above!
Also my EDC for about 2 years now, but I've removed the pocket clip and looped some leather cordage through the lanyard hole. Once the hinge loosens a bit, the blade deploys flawlessly and swiftly with the slightest flick of the wrist. It's also a blade that is very happy to cut. Sometimes it opens in my pocket and says "hello" when I reach inside.
It really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone when a Benchmade is not jimped. Most Benchmade folders are for looks and fit/finish primarily, functionality is secondary. They are for show and a little use, not for beating up on or hard daily use. I say most because obviously models like the Grip are for using and abusing. Regardless jimping is not going to be what stops your hand from sliding forward for the most part, it's handle shape and correct positioning of the handle.
I just ordered the 890 and hope it is very sharp. I am a Boker guy and the Boker's are razor sharp but I can not carry them (full auto). Hope the 890 will be as sharp.
Yeah...I don't know what the situation in Australia is, but here in Bulgaria the knife prices are between 50 and 100% higher then in the US :( and a good knife is a serious investment.
@17:25 I always interpreted that as a glass breaker. Considering all other aspects of this knife (I've owned and carried it since 2009, so I'm pretty familiar), I couldn't fathom it being used as a weapon. My Kershaw Leeks are more suitable as weapons (mostly due to the jimping, handle shapes, and much heftier liner locks). The liner lock is the biggest giveaway that this is not intended for heavy use. If you want to pierce anything more than foam rubber, I'd strongly recommend an Axis lock, lockback, or at least a much heftier liner lock. Nevertheless, it's a very sexy EDC.
@weaponseducation thats really cool! im 13 and i was specially trained for knives by my personal trainer! but best of all, he taught me discipline. i always carry 4 knives! (except for school, obviously) and i cannot wait until im of age to where i can carry a gun. i excel at shooting handguns and is a fun hobby.
I just tell my girlfriend to blame you NutnFancy because you and Jeff are the ones that convince me to get more blades lol. Beauty of a knife. reminds me of what I want the mini-dejavoo to be but with the S30V steel. Also, I know that Shoki (knife on the page next to Torrent) isnt the most practical EDC because it doesnt have a pocket clip, but it looks very nice and there are no videos on it so far :( Hint Hint :p Might be a good collector for your wife to roll her eyes at :p
PersonalDefense then you should check out the Benchmade 707 sequel, it seems a bit of a thinner design and has G10 inlays rather than the whole handle, but the blade shape is very similar and t has the axis lock. I'm poised on buying one
Dude your right about the lady hating me because of the knives!!!I sit in the car when she is driving,I sit there opening and closing my knives, watching TV mostly LOL siting there whipping it open and closing it,In the bedroom, eating in the living room lol. That means snapping it open to cut my steak!!!! I have problems, but they are good problems. When shit hits the fan I will pop open my knife without even thinking about it!All you knife fan's know what I'm talking about!
You say you're not going to seek help for your addiction, but if I where going to seek help, where do you recommend me going? Love the reviews by the way. Videos make me want to buy more knives.

great video, great review!!! keep goin!!! very much rely on your review and trust them!!!! nice knife especially blade shape, btw how is the locking mechanism on this knife?
I own one of these and I'm not sure if it's just mine, but the liner lock is really stiff and doesn't lock very well. I've owned it for about 4-5 years.
You said the handle is G10? it looks like micarta.. I may be mistaken. I too prefer knives to be carried tip up.. I also like jimping and I also like knives with a choil so I can choke up on it to shift from light to medium use.. if there's anything I wish Benchmade had more was blades with choils but if i'm having a choil hunger I'll just get a Spyderco.. the geometry of this blade is nice though as it can be used even in food preparation.. with that shape and grind.. mincing garlic is a cinch.
Is this a HOF edc blade? I love it, feels great in hand. I think it's a great blade to carry, if needed you could bust a car window with the pommel, cut the seatbelt and drag someone to safety, pretty nice for a simple edc blade. Keep'm comin TNP!
I would love to reference the Cold Steel Lawman if you ever posted a review of it! Yea yea I know, "its coming" lol jk.. Thanks for reviewing this nice blade in depth, appreciated.
If it comes down to the point where we have to physically defend the republic (which is inevitable), the people who stockpiled weapons and ammo will be the ones who are most prepared. They'll hand out guns, knives, and ammo to their friends, family, and neighbors - and they will be well equipped. So collecting guns and knives could be considered preparation to defend the republic, could it not?
"Ladys.. if your man is a benchmade man... this is going to shape up to be a horrible year for you.." Holy cow that made me laugh so hard.!!!! Great intro!!! Ooohh. I'm still laughing. Whooo.
I have this knife in plain and combo edge. Both black coated blades. With both of them the liner lock is VERY easy to disengage. ALMOST to the point it would concern me when doing some rigorous cutting. Is this normal for these knives?
hey guys, seriously, chill it out. people have different opinions about knifes and gear and that's fine. but yes, personal attacks are not welcome. am i right NF? QuietBearr, if you don't like TNP don't watch it. simple. Ps. nice review as always.
You're right. What was I thinking? Don't give them the weapons. Just let them be defenseless sitting ducks.....OR....you COULD train them the best you can when you give them the tools. Hmm...now there's an idea.
compared to other things i guess. (like dirt bikes or boats) but when you have a problem and have hundreds like NF, myself and others. it adds up to a lot of money. :) + i still think that most knives are over priced. but i guess that cant be helped. because if you really want something, you are willing to pay the price. mostly.
I got my Torrent a couple days ago. Today at work, I stabbed myself in the arm with it :( I left my knife open after making a cut, tore something, my arm slipped and went into my knife. Not too deep, but enough. I told my boss to not file a worker's comp thingy. We're both conservative (in CA)
Very smart thing indeed. Otherwise we might have frankenfancy hiding in his house with an army of angry wives and girlfriends outside with torches and pitchforks :p

Hey Nutn, this was my first Benchmade, compliments of you!
"preferably to keep forever" best quote, i would want too as well.

You rock, Nutnfancy.
My wife bought me this knife and it's amazing ! And I buy her Coach purses lol so we have a great understanding :)
Looking at one on Ebay right now. This might be my first Benchmade purchase, glad to see such a favorable review from Nutn
Received the Benchmade 890 today and sitting here with it.

I would have love that my dad had a knife collection ... :) great job btw !
Polished G10 is gorgeous... and Benchmade does it right. Nice vid, as always.

Yes!! Great review on a sweet lookin' blade! Thanks Nutn, You 'da man!!!
Yes! Finally, another knife review!
This will most likely be a Father's Day present to my dad
Great review!

Very cool knife, awesome review. Gonna get one for myself!
great review, it seems like every time i watch new videos from you i just want more and more and more. not trying to push you or anything :)
Just picked one up on eBay for $100. Can't wait to get it.

I just got one of these today at Cabelas in the bargain cave for $66. I think I got a great deal
awesome looking knife
The Aphid looks cool its benchmade first assisted opening red class!
Wife, "You have enough knives."
Husband, "You have enough shoes."
He approved the the Video Response, you were wrong. Thanks nutnfancy! :D
Yeah...I don't know what the situation in Australia is, but here in Bulgaria the knife prices are between 50 and 100% higher then in the US :( and a good knife is a serious investment.
Haha, I like the comment on the stamp collection.
Of course you could always sell the stamps and
buy a bunch of knives! LOL!

It's a good "down to earth" knife.
I know exactly what you are talking about. While I don't have a wife or a girlfriend ATM my friends are constantly asking me to put down my knife.

Nutn, "I'll hand down this great collection".
Mrs. Nutn rolls her eyes.
The Torrent is $136 today on Amazon. Ouch.
i like it.

great video, great review!!!
keep goin!!!
very much rely on your review and trust them!!!!
nice knife especially blade shape, btw
how is the locking mechanism on this knife?
I'd be interested in any comments you might make on a comparison between the SOG Trident and the H&K (Benchmade) 154CM. Thx! Geo.
I would agree other than the blade length, I like to characterize a gentleman's folder at a length less than 3".
I would also like to see a shotgun review, perhaps Mossberg 500 vs Remington 870 ?
hi i am hissatsu5 and i am a bladeaholic all man it feel s so good to get it out in the open
hellz ya i love benchmade
lol I'm with you nutn. I'd rather get just about ANYTHING than a stamp collection.
I own one of these and I'm not sure if it's just mine, but the liner lock is really stiff and doesn't lock very well. I've owned it for about 4-5 years.
Stamps...that's funny..the only stamps I collect are the Forever ones, and I use it haha

is the liner lock very weak in this knife? i heard its very easy to disengage the lock...
LOL! Great mental image. -- Veri
benchmades are nice and good quality stuff, but i always seem to go back to my spydercos..
:) Strangely why... the prices of these things are so low ;)
5 stars review! I left a Video Response. :)

I completely agree that we need to seek professional help!! Im not gonna do it either..hehe
Gourment steak knife. I love it.
My wife says that about everything I want, except clothing, she thinks i need more of that.
@tdcollector By Nutns' standards that would probably take up half a lifetime. I'd still watch it tho!
dude! i couldnt have said it better myself!!! im 13 and they dont get why i got a $140 spyderco police3 lol
You're right. What was I thinking? Don't give them the weapons. Just let them be defenseless sitting ducks.....OR....you COULD train them the best you can when you give them the tools. Hmm...now there's an idea.

@SmartFool24 Hahaha! That's why we try to keep Nutn's location a secret..so that all the wives/girlfriends can't get their hands on him. ;)
