I have this exact blade... bought it at wal mart on a whim and I LOVE this thing. It is my current EDC blade and I don't expect to change that any time soon. Very fine knife that I would recommend to anyone for the EDC needs. Thanks for yet another great vid. Keep on rockin', Nutn!
I like how the review really is over by the 20 minute mark and the last 5 minutes revolves more around getting into a frenzy and marvelling at blades. haha. always entertaining and useful reviews!
Very much like the Damascus version you highlighted.... Ive been so blown away with my Kershaw purchases that i have a really hard time forking over the additional moolah for Benchmades anymore....Bronze washers, assisted opening, excellent steels, MADE IN USA, and every one has had excellent lockup... Cyclone, Junkyard II, leek, Packrat, Spec bump, and a tanto blur..,, Just great knives..
In response to nutn's comment at 14:08, the only 2 advantages of damascus steel that I can think of is the edge and the strength from the layering. Because of the layering of the steel, when the layers meet when met by the edge, it creates serrations on the microscopic level that, when sharpened, cuts really smoothly. The layers from the welding/forging process create 400-500 layers from cutting the metal, folding it over, hammering it down, welding and repeat til it comes to 500 layers.
That bright blue Blur is gorgeous. Like a sapphire color. I love my Blur in Desert Sand with a black blade and can't wait to get another (maybe with some serrations).
Love the video! Thanks V for the heads up on this one coming out. I've been very happy with my Barrage over the past month or so. I purchased mine from Walmart (for $38 after tax) and as packaged it's advertised as being "shaving sharp." They're not kidding too. I've used this knife for dressing small game and fish to great effect. It does have a less than perfect thumbstud, but having played with it some it almost feels like it's supposed to be deployed using both hands. Great vid, 5*'s.
Nutnfancy understated the importance of the frame lock design. It's better because your hand holds the lock so it won't accidentally disengage. Good to see it on a cheap knife.
hollow grind means the blade profile was made with a wheel that creates a very fine agressive edge. Flat grind means the proflie was made with a belt sander or belt grinder. it creates a less aggressive edge that has more longevity. Its personal preference, think of a straight razor when thinking about hollow ground.
This USED to be my favorite compact/crazy sharp self-defense knife. A couple of days ago I put a thumbstud size tear in my thumb when I deployed it in an urgent manner. The thumbstud sticks initially and then the blade flys out super fast. I think there is a small ball bearing that keeps the blade in the closed position, that it hangs up on. The thumbstud ridges are SHARP. It is still a great EDC(Cabellas Bargain Cave-$25). TEST YOUR KNIVES before you trust them for emergency use.
I don;t understand why people worry about blade centering. The blade will shift to the left or the right depending on how tight you have that pivot screw, or how loose you have it. Cool blade though, i have also seen them at Wal-mart. This is my first time seeing it in action though :) Dan.
@exsigint I'm not certain but I think it's just a renaming of the barrage for the 2010 catalog. They apparently took off the barrage last year as I couldn't find the barrage on their late 2009 catalog. I think they are relaunching the barrage as salvo from here on forward.
I love my Kershaw blackout and scallion. great brand with quality products and great customer service for any issues you may have (at least in my 1 experience with a quality issue)
Man is it just me or does anyone else freaking LOVE teh pattern of a damascus steel blade? I would never use the few I own but I want one of these in that steel lol
I've carried the Kershaw skyline for years with frequent hard use and I've never had any problems with lock up or the liner lock it's a great knife, I recently got the Kershaw leek in Damascus nutnfancy I think you should do a review/compare on all/most of the leeks
Thoughts on the Kershaw OD-1? Looks like a similar blade to the barrage, but deploys by a 'blade protusion' that recesses into the frame (also uses a frame lock). The kershaw site says it is a flipper, but enough pressure from the index finger brings the blade out medium fast, imho. I bought the orange G-10 limited edition for my collection, so not much experience with edc on the od-1...
Beautiful knife! I like everything other than the fact that Kershaw seems to ignore us left handed users. Until I find a Kershaw that I like and will function equally for me as for a right hander, I will keep my 40 dollars for another option. Thanks for the review, Nutn.
Regard the low profile version of blur's slanted thumb studs, kershaw storm has it and it's the most awful thumb stud I've ever used. It's too low, slippery, and the ridges actually cut up my thumb pad pretty good attempting to deploy the blade. I had to ground down the ball detent so the blade comes out easier to fix it.
good video nutnfancy and veri keep up the great work also i was woundering are you ever gonna review any case knives thanks keep up the great work have a good night
Love the barrage! its basically a leek and a blur morphed together the knife is discontinued it was a walmart exclusive!!!! only 412 models of the barrage were ever made! after that they came out with the kershaw salvo! same knife with an all satin finish it is also discontinued but you can still get it on ebay although the stright blade version is getting harder to find nib happy collecting people
It's nearly the same process used for making katanas in Japan. I'm definitely not an expert on knives/steels, butI learned all that from watching John Fitzen's Damascus videos. I think that having a damascus folder is pretty cool, but I think I'd rather go with a damascus fixed blade if the blade materials would rust like that in a bigger knife that has more material than have that same steel in a folder with considerably less material.
Hey Nutn, please forgive me if you may have already done this but could you please review the JYD2? I bought the knife and immediately came on YT for your opinions on it but couldn't find it? Your thoughts are valued! J.Byrne U.K
i have a kershaw vapor, the older model,i think they made some changes on it since i got it. anyways, that knife has the same type of thumb stud with the angle to it too. check it out maybe
review the blur nutn! ive carried mine for over a year and a half everywhere in Pendleton and through the deserts of 29 palms, through the jungles of Okinawa and the Philippines. had it with me on the USS Pelilu over the open ocean. and ive been very happy with it. used it for skinning. used it cutting cardboard. and used it just today working on my car. and i dont care about the weight because compared to 15k flak and kevlar 100lb pack hikes. this knife is an easy day. love it! and i wanna see what you think
Darn it, Nutn, I thought I was done with knives for this year... now I realize I need another toy ^^ And I need it BAD - not sure what it is but there's something incredibly sexy about this blade... You're straining my budget :D Volunti non fit iniuria so keep the reviews coming bro. I really appreciate your (and Veri's) hard work.
Not sure if it's nation wide, or even more than one location, but FYI in case anyone's in the market, I recently nabbed a Skyline and a Barrage on clearance at Wal-Mart for $25. They also had a Buck Omni-Hunter I believe, a Leatherman Skeletool I'm debating getting, and a couple Gerber models. Geber Profile for $15...might have to get one as a beater.
Kershaw does make a high value knife i have had a few and lost a few ( which is upsetting) but they are a decent utility blade. And a good edc blade also.
Great blade. An EDC fav for me now that I have one. Btw Nutn, did you crack your voice at 8:32?! HAHA! A good laugh brotha, a good laugh. Excellent review as always.
i agree with you the purpose of haveing and carrying a tactical blade where i live the limit is 6" but thats pushing it legally if a cop sees it but other than that every person has the right to carry a knife or hand gun if they have a concealed carry permit to defend them selves and there fellow citizen
Never said I Was proud of doing it. I have a job to do, with the laws in place I have no choice according to my policies and procedures set forth by my Chief. Failing to act upon the written laws for weapons means I lose my job. I'm part time so no union to protect me. With the economy I'll have a hell of a time finding another P.O. near me. Unfortunately this isn't Alaska so here you need a CPL to carry concealed. I am less then proud to do it but took a oath. I'm fair as a person!!
I was replying to austinguy23, who suggested reviews on Hinderer XM-18, Strider SNG or Sebenza - knives that cost around 400 dollars. Grrr, RUclips's comment system is freaky.
Does not compute( if someone judged the things you owned and by extension you ) You cannot judge a person by judging an item they might or might not own. No disrespect meant. Funny thing, I actually said NOTHING BAD about these knives OR their owners :)
Im just curious how you think owners of the knives you just insulted feel when they hear things like that? Would you like it if someone judged the things you owned and by extension you? If that justification makes you sleep better at night then fine, but keep it to yourself please. If you want to make a comment about something being overpriced, that's cool too, but couldnt you try and find a better way to do it?
You should find a website supplier; such as YourCornerStore or newgraham knives(google em', I cant link in youtube comments) ; Ebay is full of scams; and I found that when buying brand-new, other websites have much better prices. Sure you can get an AWESOME Deal on a used knife, but when it comes to a new knife, most sellers on ebay charge more just because they think YOU Think you can get it for cheap on ebay.
The matter of fact being that marching orders of TNP is reviewing high quality && high value stuff, you might have to wait a while for these reviews. Think about it: Nutn has to lay his hands on each of these blades, preferably do some field testing... it's just freakin' expensive... unless YOU arrange to send the blades to Nutn for reviewing. IMO these 3 "top" blades are every blade snob's overpriced wet dreams.
Fair when policy says I can use judgement and my own discreation. However most of the weapons Ive taken are from non lawabiding citizens with records or ones who flat out lie to me. I don't lie to people so lying to me is a clear ticket that what I find is what your going to be charged with plain and simple. If I say I'll work with you I will, and I have and will stand up in court for those people. How ever the Constitution doesn't give right to conceal a sword, baton, club or big knife!
"I'm gonna do this as fast as possible!" 25 minutes later, I love it, keep up the long reviews, don't shorten em its great!
I like how the review really is over by the 20 minute mark and the last 5 minutes revolves more around getting into a frenzy and marvelling at blades. haha. always entertaining and useful reviews!

I absolutely love the blade shape! Thank you Nutnfancy!
I just ordered a black Barrage. With your reviews around I doubt I'll ever have enough stuff ^^
You rock bigtime, man.
@TedOfNod Hahaha! I know..its whack..he can't help it! Thanks for the funny comment. =) -- Veri
Glad to see u poppin out a lot of knife reviews again!

Much love right back at ya! - Veri (Nutn's sister)
That bright blue Blur is gorgeous. Like a sapphire color. I love my Blur in Desert Sand with a black blade and can't wait to get another (maybe with some serrations).
O8Server is correct, its "Rem Oil". And Nutn also likes Hoppes #9 gun solvent. He pretty much sticks with those two. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

i really love the value for your money that Kershaw gives you. Nice review, nutn
bought one of these on base for all of 15 dollars on clearance. I LOVE IT!

Ooooh, that Damascus steel is freaking beautifull!

Great review. I like each of these knives. I've also found that Kerahaw's OD-1 is an excellent EDC knife for a relatively low price.
I love my Kershaw blackout and scallion. great brand with quality products and great customer service for any issues you may have (at least in my 1 experience with a quality issue)

Ok, I'll prolly look like a dummie (again!) but what are case knives? You know I'll ask him, but I want to understand the question.. -- Veri
you rock Nutn,great review as always
I bought one and it slipped from my packet while running so I bought another one. I like the knife, I just wish it had a longer clip.
Through! Keep them coming, wonderful information.
Great review Nutnfancy. Cheers

hollow is a concave curve if u look at the side of the blade. Flat is just a straight side of a blade
i have a kershaw vapor, the older model,i think they made some changes on it since i got it. anyways, that knife has the same type of thumb stud with the angle to it too. check it out maybe
Carry a Kershaw Leek during the week and a Blur on the weekends. Great knives.
Again a brilliant review 5*
@Cman524 Spring Assisted blades are legal in PA.
review the blur nutn! ive carried mine for over a year and a half everywhere in Pendleton and through the deserts of 29 palms, through the jungles of Okinawa and the Philippines. had it with me on the USS Pelilu over the open ocean. and ive been very happy with it. used it for skinning. used it cutting cardboard. and used it just today working on my car. and i dont care about the weight because compared to 15k flak and kevlar 100lb pack hikes. this knife is an easy day. love it! and i wanna see what you think

I really appreciate your (and Veri's) hard work.
would you recommend this or the spyderco tenacious for an edc knife.
Another great review. Thanks!

Hey TNPers, what is a hollow grind vs a flat grind? Thanks.
may 2011 local wallmart has old stock feb ''09 Barrage for $25. also feb' 09 zing and od1 nice find
I'm a fellow TNP'er ! Nice vid nutn!
@LedZeppelin13k7 at a Px or Bx??? I want to get one but I don't know the area off post very well
where did you get that blue/purple blur at 4:50?
Hahaha! The jakenator's at it again. Love it. -- Veri
What metal has a better "cool factor" than damascus?
Solid grip - yes. And thats what thumb on spine compromises.
Kind of a side note, but why is the Kershaw Skyline review you did set as private?
Is the sale taking place off the kershaw website?
Kershaw does make a high value knife i have had a few and lost a few ( which is upsetting) but they are a decent utility blade. And a good edc blade also.
@TheWuusterGSY
Yeah I'm getting a deal at Amazon for $25 too.
Can't wait to receive it.
thats a nice looking knife
look at the bsa centennial shallot in Damascus steel. from Rob Thomas. its made in my town. Vegas baby!
hey nutnfancy! have you ever thought of designing your own knives and making them?
are those considered a CCW?
sweet vid man!!
@CutleryNovice Correction it's nearly identical to O1
Great blade. An EDC fav for me now that I have one. Btw Nutn, did you crack your voice at 8:32?! HAHA! A good laugh brotha, a good laugh. Excellent review as always.
Kershaw Tilt review please
@CutleryNovice how would I do that?
wal-mart clearance for 25$
original price i believe was 34.97$
I have a vapor too, razor sharp out of the box real quick, nice knife but needs better steel, AUS6 is too soft.
Thanks Nutn You Rock Man!
Very reminiscent of the Shallot, only with a better blade shape.
great knife! if the bradley is the poor mans sebenza, then the salvo is the poor mans bradley alias! thanks for the info nutn...
barrage or skyline
"for a folding knife review, it's pivotal"
Wow, it's so beautiful xD really cool look (:
@TheWuusterGSY
thats where i got it at that price couple weeks after this reveiw
@CrialCrial I know right!
Case is a US knife company.
I almost want this knife.
@TheWuusterGSY Nice!!! -- Veri
i almost went into a siezure when he pulled out the damascus
Trying to draw some heat upon Nutn, are we? ^^
I wish spring assisted knives werent banned in PA, because I really want the OSO Sweet. :(
nice knife :)
