Swing Dancers Ryan Boz and Alexis Garrish win FIRST PLACE US OPEN Young Adult

- Ryan Boz Raleigh, NC & Alexis Garrish Damascus, MD have been dancing together now for a year. They did a fabulous performance, doing mostly their own choreography and commanded the floor with their lines, patterns, musicality and showmanship! They won the US Open Swing Dance Championships held in Burbank, CA. in the Young Adult Division. This is the highest West Coast Swing Honor that can be achieved.
Ryan and Alexis have both been dancing since a young age. Ryan has a background in Hip Hop, Shag and West Coast Swing. Ryan placed 3rd in the Cabaret Division at the US Open and is a member of the Current US Open Swing Team Champions.
Both Ryan and Alexis come from Dance Family's, with both Mom's competing throughout the years in Swing Dance Competitions (including the US Open) against each other now find themselves both on the same team.
Ryan has been dancing since he was 5 years old and is also a professional Actor who has appeared on TV shows such as "Revolution", "Sleepy Hollow", Secret and Lies" and "Powers" . He will be a featured Actor on the hit series "Vice Principles" on HBO in 2016. A great kid who between Traveling Nationally and Acting manages to be a good student and a wonderful big brother and mentor for his younger brother Gavin who has special needs. Ryan donates time to helping Kids (some older than him) learn how to Partner Dancer and Hip Hop which Ryan knows helps young people with confidence, grace and social skills.
Alexis is trained in many forms of dance. She started Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, & Hip Hop at age 5. She then went onto learn Country where she competes still today. She is a 5 time 8 dance World Champion to include 2step, Polka, Triple 2, Nightclub, Cha, Waltz, East Coast & West Coast Swing. She is one of the youngest highest ranking West Coast swing Dancers in the World. Both are Sophomores in high school. Alexis is on the Varsity Pom Squad. She also coaches/volunteers for the local Pony Poms Squad.

Boz & Al, You are the best. I haven't seen couple dancers (in any genre- save classic ballet perhaps) since Astaire and Rogers that have such great training (it shows), technique and fantastic chemistry. And you have such a great time enjoying it! The audience, including me, can feel it. I've been watching dancers for over 50 years so I know talent and SUPPER STARS when I see 'em. Obviously, there was some seriously incredible parenting in place to produce two fine young people who are extremely talented. Cuddos to the parents, and way to go Alexis and Ryan!

That girl has something special. Obviously she is talented but she is an entertainer too! It’s acting! Dancers have to be “facial actors” or able to absorb the emotion of the music in order to entertain while dancing. I enjoy watching dancers with impeccable technique but LOVE watching dancers who are entertainers. A dancer can even have room for lots of improvement in technique but seems amazing if they are good enough entertainers.

He will have no trouble finding a dance partner. Although it is the woman who does most the work in swing if the guy doesn't know how to lead all is lost. These two looked so smooth and you can see they were having fun.

Adorable! Great teacher, great routine -- I like this routine better than the veteran pros because it has more of the basic swing steps, which I looove... I don´t like those lifts and tricks, better when the dance is just dance... Excellent routine, congrats guys!

I noticed that they are from different states. Made me curious as to how they found time to rehearse and choreograph since this is a routine done at a competition, and not improvisation. At any rate, I hope they won.
