In this 25-minute talk Christine Braehler, DClinPsy, PhD, a clinical psychologist and pioneer in the development of compassion-based approaches explains how you can boost your therapy with self-compassion by paying closer attention to the relationship you have with yourself, with your client and the client with him or herself. Since self-compassion can have adverse effects in clients with attachment trauma, high shame and low mentalizing, clinicians need to use care. Principles for devising safe interventions for clients are presented: the 3Ds (Braehler, 2023) of Desensitization, Direction and Differentiation.
