Much needed topic...Thank you for marking the chapters in description.. Waiting for feeling great app to be available in India.. I appreciate your honesty Matt.. I too have based my worth on love, approval and validation of others.
Guys, for future group conversations like this, can I suggest people who are not talking mute their microphones? There's so much noise in the sound now with five open mics, it's borderline unlistenable at points. And it sounds like Matt May's mic on his headphone is not working at all. It sounds like he's inside a bathtub and a mic like that shouldn't sound like that. I'm not sure what's going on. I don't want to be negative, because I love the podcast so much! I just don't want people to be put off by the sound issues which could easily be fixed or avoided.
Thanks! Sound is #1 in importance when you're listening. I'm pretty sure he has purchased a new set of headphones and microphone. We will keep our eyes and ears on the sound and will try to do better today. best, david
Dr Burns I heard a bit on one of your programs about a group for the feeling great app starting. But I can't remember exactly what episode it was on, and if you would point me in the right direction to get signed up for it that would be great. I adore your podcasts and it's especially nice to see the images of you and your team members and guests. Keep doing what you are doing. Helps me quite a lot in remaining in one piece. This could be roughly described by the word, sanity ! Lots of love from Joseph, and Joseph's mother, Laverne.
Your book Feeling Good was so influential... second one Feeling Great is scandalous, it does not fit my worldview 😢😢😢😢😢😢 Regarding the App I am not able to find the Google Play Store 😢
Great topic! I have read the book Feeling Good inside and out and, though I am quite familiar with things like ACT and DBT, I don't remember ever hearing the phrase "paradoxical agenda setting." Until today's video I wasn't a fan of advocating for self-esteem, because I hadn't heard it said that we should get rid of self-esteem as soon as we achieve it. Acquire it so you can lose it is a paradox I can get behind! In the language of Kegan's constructive developmental model, it sounds like going from Level 4 to Level 5. Cheers! ❤ P.S. Kudos to Dr. May for discussing what might be called the collecting rejections exercise (see 53:45)
Thanks for your fascinating comments! I do use a lot of paradox and sometimes that's the easiest way to convey certain concepts and ideas that can be liberating and enlightening. But yes, paradoxical agenda setting came into existence following the publication of Feeling Good and it's all about reducing resistance and boosting motivation. It has led to considerable acceleration in the rate of recovery for a great many people. thanks, david
Thank you again for giving us that mix of therapeutic talent, compassion and wisdom.
You're very welcome and you make the effort worthwhile! best, david
When will the app be available outside of the US? Any timeline on that?
Don't know yet. We are still working on the initial release in the US and working out the bugs. best, david
Welcome to you guys, too ❤❤❤
Right back at you! ❤️❤️❤️
@@daviddbmd I am feeling great 👍 ❤️

Thanks for the kind words. Self-love beats needing the love and approval of others. Kudos to you! david
