For being the first real Zelda game, i feel like we got the short end of the stick. They could have done something amazing, instead we got this low effort shovelware. I wouldnt mind the summoning aspect if it was an action game and not a puzzle game. love ya!

@@pandorasnow ?????????? zelda games for the most part are 80% puzzles and 10% action games. heck even the bosses for the most part are puzzles themselves, the dangeons are puzzles. many of the stuff in the over world are puzzles. if anything other than the menu, this is the first game i played that made me feel like a sorcerer that uses summons. its like im casting creatures and spells for everything i do. and calling it shovelware shows me you dont really know what shovelware is.

5:12 You don't need to place down beds to break grass. Zelda's spin move (the R button) easily does that for you. For those that don't know, the spin move with the R button does this with ease. I hope this helps everyone out in their gameplay sessions of Echos of Wisdom.

Im 42. I still game, but its harder to get fixated on games like i used to. Especially as a dad. I homeschool my kid. I read, i do puzzles, i work on our homestead, and i do still game. But now i game while i exercise, or play minecraft with my wife and kid.
There is nothing wrong with gaining new hobbies. Its good, actually. My wife games, knits, crochets, paints, reads, etc.
Enjoy your reading and your gaming!

I also meant to add: my dad is 75. He still plays games. He also does puzzles, reads, etc. yeah, he’s not healing raids in MMOs anymore, but he doea tower defense games, hunting games, action RPGs. Whatever he’s in the mood for. He even plays guitar and banjo and is looking forward to playing guitar with my kid as well as playing games with her on our next visit.
You don’t out grow gaming, you just grow and find more things you enjoy.

For Nintendo to not have a radial wheel is crazy to us. It would have been SOOOOOOoooo much better for the echoes. Contextual suggestions for echoes… Pokemon style echoes log so you want to “collect em all”. Lots of obvious missed opportunities while still being a good game. Mark

I'm in my 30's I don't have kids (well, two fur babies) and I have time. But I keep picking games up, I play for an hour, and I put it down. And I might not come back for weeks. God of War, FF7 Remake, TOTK, CyberPunk, Baldurs Gate 3. Nothing sticks. The only thing that does is going back to OG Pokemon for some reason. Hoping it passes with time because I genuinely miss gaming. Such a weird feeling

I get the drought thing every couple of years. The best way to deal with it for me is just spend a couple of weeks maybe months watching movies, tv shows or reading and not even turning on a console. And then a game will come out that will just make me want to play it, so I get back to gaming organically without even forcing it.

@@ircha it was developed by Grezzo but with Zelda devs overseeing it so it stays "true" to the Zelda experience. That being said though some of the Zelda games were developed like this. Links Awakening was made by Grezzo aswell or the Oracles of Ages/Seasons + Minish Cap that were developed by Capcom. As someone that has played them, I would agree that it feels less "zeldalike"? I'm 45 and have been gaming since I was probably 9 or 10 years old, started on the Atari 2600 and NES. But I did quit for several years, I skipped all the PS4/Xbox One generation, it was that same "no games are interesting to me" (I almost exclusively played JRPGs). Then randomly one day back in 2020 my nephew left his Switch at my house, I checked it out and my love of gaming instantly sparked back to life stronger than it ever was before, I bought Switch the next day and an Xbox shortly after. I also changed my genre, I started playing games like Monster Hunter World and Rise, Witcher 3 and Elden Ring, games I wouldn't have even given a chance before. So I don't know if it was the time away from video games or expanding the types of games I played.

Forcing myself to play something that just wasn't for me, I took a step back and played games that I genuinly wanted to play specifically and I enjoyed the medium so much more. It's about pacing more so then not enjoying the medium. Only play games that you are super excited for the day they are anounced and you'll see a stark difference in your enjoyment of the hobby. I have always loved your reviews for being so honest so I appreciate this; positive, negative, or unsure. For me, I've realized in the past 2 years, I go through phases of things. I had plans to knock out a bunch of games that were sitting on my shelf after FF7 Reboot but that never happened. I blasted through Reboot too fast, and didn't even enjoy it. Then I just stopped playing stuff entirely.
Spent most of the summer going to social events (which I literally NEVER do) and that felt good so I stopped questioning it. The game that brought me back was Metroid Dread. I watched a cool video which reviewed it and became addicted. I was pretty much ONLY playing Metroid Dread for months (taking my time this time, bc playing too fast burns me out) and then I started to go back to do quests in FF7 Reboot and realized I actually really loved that game!
Took kind of another short hiatus, but I didn't want to go out anymore so I didn't know what to do. Ended up getting hooked on Love Island USA, and binged two more Love Island seasons all through August until now, when I'm finally playing Elden Ring (and loving it!)
It's hard sometimes to know what to invest your time in. When I get bored of games its not immediately obvious why or what I want to do next. I try to just take it all in stride. Gaming is my passion and one of the hobbies I've stuck with pretty consistently over time. So if I take even a year break, in the grand scheme of things, its not all that long. I'm just making room for other interests.
Because of your channel I was able to discover a new love and appreciation for jrpgs, and that really transformed this hobby for me. I get stuck in gaming ruts less and less because I'm open to newer genres now. I'd say just stick with the books for now. I have some that have been on standby for months as well. When its time to come back you'll know. And there's always time to return to old games in the future; find out maybe you really enjoyed them but you just needed to play them at the right time.

I really enjoyed Echoes of Wisdom, more than I thought I might actually.
I entirely agree that it’s a puzzle game first.
I think managing the echoes could have been handled better but I also found that I used several of them very frequently and these were quick to access. Very occasionally I found it easier to just go to the notebook via “+” to grab a specific echo rather than scroll, which would have been more tedious.
Finally, as a 40 something dad, I’ve definitely seen my relationship with games change dramatically from when I was younger. It’s still my entertainment media of choice but maybe by a much smaller degree and generally I find myself doing a much bigger variety of things in what spare time I have.

I felt this was the best Zelda game I've played in a long time. It's very refreshing like Super Mario Odyssey was. You can change the sorting of the echo's which greatly helps. I mostly used 6-8 echos which you can get to quickly unless a puzzle needed a specific echo.

The echo menu is annoying I will give you that. However, there are many echoes, even early on, that get better replacements that make early echoes obsolete. The table, for example, became worthless when I got the bed and the trampoline. The zol monster became obsolete when I got other monsters especially when I got the Flame Zol. I think when you get new echoes, try to examine the functions and see which echoes can be replaced with the new one. Frequently used echoes are highlighted in the game and will be one of the first echoes that appears when opening the menu. Basically what I am saying is to not get attached to a specific echo.

    • @azhhikari
      @azhhikari 2 месяца назад

Totally agree. I seldom read the description, but I found reading the echoes description is a must to play this game, because we can sometimes learn new things and find some new ways to use the echoes. So I always try and use the new echoes I just found. Fortunately finding peahat early in the game actually making it easier to fight monster, because it's really OP.

Reading is the best hobby. Well, it was, when I was between 16 and 26, between 26 and 35, music was number one, specially live goth, industrial and black metal. Between 35 and 40, I didn't have a hobby, but in 2020, a couple months before I turned 40, I rediscovered games, which were my hobby between 12 and 16, and kept being a big one until around 2010, when my PS2 died. That was a decade without gaming, can you believe it?

I’m 40 next year. About 3 or 4 years ago I lost interest in gaming. I still play, maybe once or twice a week, but usually on a Sunday afternoon for just a few hours but I don’t get obsessed with games, I might finish one game every 3 months.
I started to read and like you, it was not something I ever really did. Reading feels like it enriches me as a person. I feel good after doing it. I remember back to playing games for hours on end and not feeling good after. As we get older our interests change and we value time more. I think you are probably burnt out on games, but I also think that you may have just found something that your subconscious is telling you is better for you.

I'm 42 this year and still haven't lost interest in gaming, but I definitely don't feel that urge I used to have where I just wanted to get home from work every day and get back to my game.
When my son was born 7 years ago, gaming definitely took a back seat, but now that he is a bit older and I got the time to play more and have been enjoying what time I can put into gaming, but it feels like I wouldn't enjoy playing for more than 3-4 hours a day at most 😅
My backlog actually got so large that recently sold off about a third of my collection because I knew most of those games would probably never get played at this point and I still feel like I have more than enough games to carry me a few decades at this rate lol

I thought I wasn't a gamer anymore couple of month ago and later I found out the reason. For over 11 years I played game after game after game without much break in between, maybe 1-2 days. At one point the magic was gone, I continued to play game after game and it wasn't the same and I thought, maybe that's it. So I took breaks, couple of weeks and the enjoyment came back and that was the key. Now I always take at least 2-3 weeks of rest between games and it is just like in the old days.

The echo menu keeps coming up in reviews and rightfully so.
In the early game you get too many echos at once and the late game has you scrolling through an endless list, with less than stellar sorting options.
Some of the echos are also totally overpowered. Not gonna spoil anything here, but once I got a certain echo (rather early in the game) most of my traversal problems became mundane.
My other thing is that combat with monster echos is too passive. You just stand there while your minions do all the dirty work. Sometimes even while lying on a bed or soaking in a hot spring. Most boss fights are a bit more involved and I will say it looks cool when you walk the lands, flanked by two Darknuts like an escort.
In the end, I would have appreciated more active combat and less monster echos. Maybe they should have given Zelda some offensive magic and reserved the echos to items.
Otherwise I'm having a ton of fun with the game. Story, characters, music and all the creativity that went into the world are great and easily outweigh the negatives above.

I cannot stress how quickly this game went from "Game I have always wanted, preorder day 1 buy." to "Nah not even gonna play it." for me when I found out it was gonna be a Zelda game but where you fought as Zelda and not Link. As in Zelda using all the traditional items but maybe with her own version of a Master Sword or something.
