      Hierdie bliksem het verseker kubaanse t34's en angolese t54's 'n skok gegee. Volgens verhale, het hulle 'n mite gebou op die slagveld deur as 'n Ratel deur die vyand verwoes is, dat die tiffies hulle met camo nets en tarps toegegooi het en so teruggesleep het basis toe, sodat die donders nie kon raai dat enige Ratel deur enige voertuig, uitgehaal kon word het in Angola nie. Dit is wat my pa my vertel het, hy was in 32 Battaljon. Ek is nie totaal seker oor al die feite nie, dis maar 'n storie wat vertel is aan my, nadat ek 'n paar avonture self in 'n Ratel gehad het. Seersekerlik die sterkste van ons Suid afrikaanse pantser waens, hulle loop nog sterk vandag. In die ooskaap is daar selfs 'n paar Buffels aan die gang, dit was letterlik ons bus slagveld toe in 2013, in die eerste War Games wat saam met Amerika gehou is vir 50 jaar in Grahamstad. Die Marines se monde het oopgehang toe ons met die Buffels uit die oefen terrein uit gekom het, al singende. Hulle monde het veral oopgehang toe ons met redelike ou, maar fantastiese toerusting, selfgemaak hier in Suid Afrika, videos wys wat hulle bewegings vir ons uitgebeeld het. Heeltyd gewonder waar Suid Afrika die nuwe Drone tegnologie kry.. Maar daai was alles afgeneem van die grond af.

    The reason it's so tall is it's designed to protect the crew and infantry on board from mines. Also, unlike a lot of Warthunders other tanks, the Ratel has been mass-produced and has seen combat.. looking at you R3 T20 FA-HS
    My dad commanded one of these during the Border War. He's quite excited about this update

      @angry_zergling 2 года назад +1

      If I may ask, how does a high profile better protect the crew from mines?
      Really thick armored plate on the bottom that needs extra room? Some sort of insulation that helps the crew's chance of survival by putting them further away from the blast than they would be were the vehicle lower? I've been led to understand mine protection standards involve a V shaped armor hull at the bottom to direct the blast out to the side instead of up into the vehicle but hadn't heard about a design necessitating a higher ride height/taller vehicle so I'm curious! =)

    • @saltaiaw
      @saltaiaw 2 года назад +8

      @@angry_zergling Probably a few reasons, I remember watching something about IED vehicle protection but I don't remember much of it. Things like the weight of the vehicle, where the center of mass is etc stop the vehicle from being flipped. The V shaped hull like you said is also one of the techniques. Another thing is placing spall liners on the inside at the bottom to catch shrapnel. Also I think the further from the blast, the less effective it is.

      My dad told me a couple story's of his time in the border war. One stuck with me though, was when he was riding on top of a buffel and they drove over a mine, he went flying and landed on the road behind them and he said everyone inside survived. Luckily south Africans were a bunch of smart people back then and pioneered the v haul. He still has a scar on his knee from it. Much love to your dad. Tell him I said thank you for your service

      @@angry_zerglingost I can find on it "The Ratel possesses rear-mounted engine and fighting compartments, while its turret ring and driving compartment are located towards the front of the vehicle.[62] It has a long, box-shaped hull with slightly sloped vertical sides and rear.[4] The hull is of all-welded construction, with a maximum armour thickness of 20mm on the hull front.[4] Each Ratel hull is protected against 7.62×39mm armour-piercing ammunition at any angle; it is also capable of stopping 12.7×108mm armour-piercing ammunition on the frontal arc.[62] The bottom of the hull structure is blastproof and vee-shaped to deflect mine explosions away from the passengers and crew.[16] Ratels frequently detonated stacked anti-tank mines during the South African Border War with little injury to their occupants and minimal drive train damage.[3] On many occasions they were able to keep moving after basic field repairs.[3] Anti-tank mines common in Angola, such as the TMA-3, could destroy a Ratel's axles and occasionally damage its gearbox, but almost never penetrated its hull.[3]" also like most fighting vechials in the sadf and SANDF it had to have a water container, due to the fields it operated in having little to no water, basically just a large container full of water usually underneath the vechial between the wheels. Also crew "3 (commander, gunner, driver) + maximum 9 passengers"

    My father was a Tiffie (field mechanic) and worked on the Ratel when he served in the army. He said it was a test drive goal to get all six wheels off the ground. The Ratel was more infantry support than anything else. It served as mechanical infantry, transporting and working alongside infantry during contact. The terrain they fought in was sand and bushes. They (the Tiffies) had to repair any shot down Ratels during contact. To this day my dad still amazes me with his mechanical ingenuity he picked up in the army.

    I, aged 19, was a troop commander of 4 Ratel 90's, end of 87/88.
    When we went into contact we protected the flanks with tanks in front.
    We had three types of rounds HE (high explosive), HEAT (high explosive anti tank) and Shotgun round.
    The HEAT round well placed was effective against T55 tanks. We used shotgun round in the dense bush if we suspected possible presence of Infantry.
    For a big part the contact was at very, very short range. Reaction time (training and skill) made the difference between life and death.
    Some shots were at such a short distance that the blowback of the stabilizing fins of the rounds were a major, deadly, hazard for own vehicles!
    Thankfully all the soldiers who served under me, came back alive.

      The Ratel was quick and esy to repair in the field and had legendary reliability. Effective range on one tank was about 700kms. Top speed was around 100km/h over flat terrain. Ploughed through trees with a trunk diameter of about 10 inches.

    Having actually served in the South African army as a Tactical Intelligence operative, this was one of the proposed scouting vehicles to be used during conflicts involving strong armour. That was 2003... If not known worldwide, the fantastic governmental policy of corruption denied us the use of it. We got Hino's for deployment instead, no matter the 'enemy'.

      Just a note, we actually do use the Ratel 20's which were called Command ratels, but they were without the 20's..We had 7.62's though, and take note of the sides where little 'windows' or rifle slots were inserted.. Gaijin would probably make that a premium vehicle one day, with 6 riflemen shooting 5.56mm R4 rifles through the sides, to give it more firepower and 'protection' on the battlefield.

    South Africa, developed and built their vehicles with a budget that wouldn't cover the cost of a new Ferrari. This van proved itself in real combat. Even going up against T55's and apparently took out a few T72's in Angoa and Mozambique. South Africa was so advanced in the 70's and 80's they had anti mine vehicles that even the US only caught up about 15 years ago. We even had effective nuclear missiles 45 years ago, also developed on a shoestring budget. I was mechanized infantry we used the Caspir, for it's design development and prototype was 30k today's equivalent about $100k its still sold today to many NGO's and countries

So obviously due to the South African governments pertinent role as the worlds foremost racists and protanogists of white independence, it would feature a French element. They’re NOT running out of things to add! There were a whole host of extraordinarily cursed vehicles made by Alfred Becker, a German engineer who specialized in converting captured vehicles and cannons into self propelled guns. He’s the one responsible for the Marders, but also for a whole host of other crazy vehicles including tractors with PaKs and light tanks mounted with heavy howitzers.
    And what about Churchill’s funnies? What about the remote control kamikaze B17 that was loaded up with explosives and intended to crash into fortifications? What about the piloted rocket-bomb created by the Japanese and released by bombers?
    There’s a bunch of unique, WW2-era, non-OP vehicles that they could put in game just for the laughs and flavor. And I’d certainly prefer it over the current devaluing of the WW2 armor meta

    These were immensely effective against T55, T62 and T64’s. Easy to criticise them, but to many of us, they were the difference between coming home, or dying out in the sands. Originally, they carried a 20mm gun. Later, they carried a missile turret with 3xZT3 missiles. ZT3 is a beam riding AT missile, similar to the TOW, but with better range and armor penetration.

  • @Gameplaym0ments

    Nah they have 10 more years of content easily. There are so many sub nations, different models of existing vehicles they could add. Not to speak of the tons of vehicles they skipped implementing because theres no direct need for them yet. Also different modes like subs, cruise missiles on ships, modern air to ship engagements, more WW1 vehicles. Or maybe even modern tactical bombers if they find a way to balance them.
