    You know what I love? Plasterers who are convinced that a "magic mix" of SBR and PVA 50/50 is the way to go. I've never heard such shit in all my life 🤦😂

    Moved over to sbr about 15 to 20 years ago . Just got fed up with mixed results from kids glue that sticks lollipops together . We had always used sbr in damp environments and S&C work just moved it over to general plastering we wasn't sure at that time but the results proved it far more reliable . Totally agree with this top advice 👍🏻

    If you add it to concrete it increases the compressive strength. Used in many products both as a primer and within the product itself.
    Decorative concrete resurfacing. Roof paints and membranes, tiling adhesives, elastomeric membranes, strutural grouts, tile grouting etc. It can be added to any sand/cement based products. Probably not great where the substrate needs to breath such as lime based mortars/plaster etc?

      How long have you been plastering for mate? You needed a you tube video to learn about the superior properties of SBR compared to PVA, did the guy you served your time under not teach you these things?

    I always thought once sbr has dried then it became more like a plastic so skim will fail , is that not right?

    I used sbr today on silk paint, after 1st coat ov plaster, started to bubble and full lot came down.

    I always used pva when plastering . 20% pva 80% water never had a problem and anything that’s high suction I just apply a bit more to that area .I only use SBR in render. I’m not saying it’s better or worse just how I was taught to do it .

    I like 70% sbr and 30% pva
    Just makes life a little easier applying it , and still drys 👌👌👌

    I use sbr on a lot of applications. I’m pretty sure most specialist primers for tiles or plaster or render all contain it to be fair

    Ive always used sbr for area that may get moist and outside. Thinking about it now im not sure why i use pva, ive got some hardwall to skim over might try sbr

    Lost faith now bro if doing artex ceiling its better using pva with a dash of sbr then you wont be waiting for a set the whole point of a set is you want it to dry that means you can get on the next set .your strokes should be going way past your shoulder too .never good to kill the suction completely😢

    Usually only use sbr with iutside work ill give it a try some time on new plaster im using loads of coats of pva on over skims

    Hi m8 been using sbr neat few months now from watching one of your videos with no problems but last week I skimmed a living room out and neat sbr it day before and as putting first coat on it was dragging and blebbing and drying out to a degree and couldn’t even flatten it properly and second coat not much better but beat it with bit of sweat, bout 25m then did the walls which were the usual flaky paint after wallpaper stripped which not normally a problem in past but they sort of reacted to and made it bloody hard work, have you ever come across this, wondering if sbr bad batch or got too hot in van, I don’t know but it’s put me off?

    I’m a plumber so I haven’t much clue on plastering.
    I wants my hall landing and stairs plastering. But the couple of pals I know that plaster said because of the walls are silk paint it’s going to be a nightmare and I’ll need gritty pva stuff,
    So SBR will be okay?

    Does it need watering down or just neet for overskim and do you still 2 coat SBR or just the one coat for overskim

    how does it work over artex ceilings that have never been painted, pva even after 3 coats never holds it back, Sbr could be the answer

      Add the right gauge of water to activate, the original sbr back in the late 80's was poured out white from the tub then when water added, turned a bluey colour It's all I use

    I use SBR , it's miles better than PVA , also use it diluted for sealing floors before screed .

    Can you do a video on how much to put on Kirk I think I’m putting too much on the ceiling I did yesterday still wasn’t dry after a hour or so but the walls was made no sense ??

    Never used sbr I'll give it a go I take it you put it on let it dry then skim over. So for best results how much water.

    Sbr Sbr Sbr, beats the pants off everything else. So easy to apply. Goes miles and kills suction stone dead. Everyone here owes Kirk a pint!

    All I think of with PVA is how it peels off your skin as kid. Sbr is like super glue

    You don't skim on pva when it's dry, you wait until its tacky, but yeah s.b.r seals alot better. Thissle bond it is good aswel

      Pva is water based and re-emulsifys when it gets wet. You can leave it to completely dry and then when you put wet plaster on it it will go tacky again pal.

      You don't need to sbr the bricks before using adhesive but damping the walk down helps if it's dusty.
      You can skim straight over moisture board but if you read the product data sheet it states that you should use thistle bond it although nobody ever does.
      (British gypsum boards)

      If your worried about back grounds, do a little test dab and come back to it 24 hrs later. You can dab to ALMOST anything. But painted walls. , a wise man once said .😉

      SBR is usually dry with about 30 minutes, sometimes a lot quicker.

      I always hit dry unibond, re-emulsifies when wet and you don’t get that awful sliding over tacky walls

    Hi Kirk. If you 1 coat SBR a whole room. Is it ok to leave it say 10 days then skim over? Or would I be best doing another coat?

      ​@Onthetrowel you I definitely wouldn't sbr painted walls or artex and leave sbr dry , you are essentially just sealing the background you have to hit it tacky in order to stick if theres no key , that's why I always use pregrit

      I prime then apply again, then apply plaster while it’s taking up, as it doesn’t re emulsify it creates a barrier once dry.

      @@Onthetrowel it is extortionate but so’s the finish near £20 a bag after tax. But I’ve had 2 ceilings come down with pva and sbr. Don’t know why done everything right not cement in the finish or bonding. The other ceilings stayed on. So I use thistle bond on every ceiling now

      When they came down... did your plaster come away from the primer or did the plaster stick to the background and the background come away.
      If its the latter which is more than. Likely the case then it doesn't matter what primer you use. It would be worth watching my video on limewash paint to give you a good understanding of it mate.
      Hope all that makes sense

    Just out of interest, why do you title videos like this as "most plasterers dont know this"? How do you know it then? And if you dont know this kind of stuff then you aint really a plasterer are you? You actually come across as a sound big guy but comments like "most plasterers dont know this" comes across as a bit arrogant and an i know better kind of attitude.

    Shouldn't plaster over silk paint, it will fail. Board it or peel the paint off.
