      Spot on. Some color work could be done to pull it all together a bit. I think he could also have done a rough model of his terrain for the ground effect to interact with, or simply warp it in compositing. It's strange for the shockwave to be flat on a mountainous terrain.
      The $20 thing was probably just for the youtube title. The dirt explosion wouldn't be much harder to make in Houdini, he could have done it himself. But the true cost that he's comparing to (that of the Iron Man VFX budget) includes labor, software licenses, hardware, and the other 99% of the movie.

    The thing wrong with 99% of these comparisons is they either say the films total budget which covers catering,makeup,insurance ,salaries,camera rentals,location rental etc for the WHOLE film. Or they only mention VFX budget which they rarely do because rarely public information. The reality is some million dollar movies have $500 shots in it. Not saying this is one but the reality is this shot even for them didn’t cost millions. Great work though!

      1. The smoke doesn't react to the environment and doesn't surround the actor.
      2. The camera shakes are not interesting and look cheap.
      3. There is no impact with a delay like the director wanted.
      4. Because of the smoke, we don't see the editing long enough to understand the set before the explosion. (you know the movie before you see the second scene)
      5. Interesting to know that this man works for free.

    first of all, you are a genius!! I'm only mentioning this in a respectful way, as a lifelong artist that can see all color differentiation: there is something going on with a sort of graying/greening (or rather missing warmth in your arm and face flesh tones, which if corrected would leave you with a slightly better final clip - that warmth is present in your original footage. It can be tempting to think that missing sunlight due to clouds would mean a removal of warmth, but it's not the case due to all the refracted light, and light passing through clouds.
    Regardless, this project is absolutely badass, and as a 3D guy I am super impressed!!!

    Hi, I think there is an issue with the sound. The sound of the explosion should be delayed. First, you see the explosion, then you hear the sound (if the explosion is not near you). At a distance of 5 km from the missile explosion, the sound will reach you in 2-3 seconds, so keep that in mind. Also, the sound should start at maximum volume and then fade out. It shouldn't gradually increase to maximum before fading.

    • @Archesio_Palackante
      @Archesio_Palackante 5 дней назад

      Thats a pretty bad math my friend… since sound travels 350m/s …3s would be roughly just 1km… and 5km -> 15s 👍

    Only missed one detail, in Iron Man the shockwave travels along the ground, you can see it move up the hill, yours just kinda goes in a straight line from the explosion and the grass and your clothes and hair don't react to the shockwave. But other that that, this was incredible!

    Camera depth of field (Bokeh) would give you the effect of the shockwave coming towards you even faster. Amazing VFX work man!

    It was an excellent effort for the amount of resources and time spent on the project. Gotta say though that the original scene looks more realistic in multiple areas.

    Was so close to making it look as real as the studio VFX team did. For what you said it cost you to make what you did, and for it to be that close in looks to theirs, is impressive.
    It is very hard to kepture realism. Sadly, if just one thing is off, even a little, it can disrupt the entire effect. Is what makes both rendering and compositing blending, such a task.
    Still looked quite good, just the same.

    Its always amusing when someone does something and makes it look easy but you know it isn't actually easy. This is a perfect example of that. Oh yeah I just did this and this, I mean I don't know personally never tried it but anytime I try to do video or image editing I cry.

    I am not the VFX engineer but few notes that could improve the effect:
    - when small rockets are released from main rocket their release animation is to linear, I would add more eased in-out curve to add the animation dynamic,
    - there is also lack of "kick" when small rockets' engines are lid
