After listening to Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, it's safe to say Kendrick has 5 classics which is rare in this time and age. It's not even an overreaction to the latest album: it's literally ART and it's even hard to critique it because of the beauty in the music. Section 80 is Kendrick peaking his head, GKMC was his official arrival, TPAB was his cementation in the greats, DAMN solidified that greatness, and Mr. Morale was a reminder of his generational talent.
Can people stop saying "this is literally art" or "this isnt music this is pure art" Music as a whole is a form of art it means nothing to call art art.
Only ever person to start their career on this type of run is Kanye (College dropout, late registration, graduation, 808s and Heartbreaks, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) all we can hope for is that he does fall off the cliff like Kanye did.
@Alex Chingmay how is section 80 not a classic? A month after it was released Snoop, the Game, and Dre all crowned him the new king on stage. You had Rigamortus, HiiPower, Kush and Corinthians, Poe Man’s dreams. Section 80 pushed the limits of rap in that era which is what a classic album does. To me, classic albums push the envelope of hip hop further whether it’s beats, subject matter, delivery. Section 80 being really the only album in its era to look back at the crack epidemic and humanize it over a sound that wasn’t really a thing in 2011 is classic. You can be a classic album and not great (some of the songs might have been misses in some peoples eyes) just like you can be a great album and not classic (Take Care from Drake is an example of this)
Kendrick has had hip hop on his shoulders ever since he came up. I'm happy he finally gave up that savior complex to just be a man. He is not your savior
I think a lot of this album addresses all criticism of his silence during the BLM protests after GF murder. He basically says that I’ve been working on myself through therapy or whatever means, these are my struggles, these are my faults and I’m working on myself, hence my silence. I’m just a man, not finished working on myself. This album is deep
Man seeing kendrick cry and seeing his seniors passing down the legacy is so fucking emotional and great at the same time. They all saw who kendrick is and he did not disappointed even a bit.
I think one of the most astonishing things about Kendrick Lamar is his ability in this day and age to be able to knock down all the walls that everyone else says about hip-hop artist in his generation. He is one of the only artist from his generation that gets respect from the older generations, he is one of the only artist from his generations where people still care about the full album and not just the singles, he’s one of the only artist from this generation that you can look at and say 20 years from now or 30 years from now people are still going to be talking about him and his music like they do 2Pac like they do NWA like they do biggie like they do Eminem like they do Jay Z. There’s so many hip-hop artists that have come out since Kendrick Lamar has that may be had a hot few months and then we never heard from them again. So many other rappers from his generation are all about chasing clout and this dude is the most real dudes that you could ask for when it comes to asking someone to bless the microphone and give you a classic.
@Osama bin Laden this is not hate I promise you that brother I fuck w/ Em but….Eminem just ain’t black and he don’t really just sit w/ you like other black ppl so as dope as he is..at the end of the day he’s a white man.
I've listened to the new album over seven times now. It's almost frightening and disturbing that a guy can go away for so long, on the heel of every conceivable achievement and expectation, and so casually return with a project that just might be the best thing I've ever heard from him. It's really getting weird. I'm scared to say it, but, this might be even better than TPAB. I swear.
Kendrick crying on stage as her gets the torch of the West makes me cry right with him! 🥲 I love his art so much! ❤️ He’s my favorite artist and the greatest of this generation ❤️
Much respect to K Dot. I will admit that I was late getting to him and understanding him. But when he dropped Control, I thought he was the best dude in Hip Hop. When he dropped To Pimp A Butterfly, I thought he was the best person in present day music! He still is!

I think there was a conscious realization on kendrick's part that TPAB was destined to become a certified classic. It's message is amongst the strongest in all of hiphop. It not only showed a side of the world we don't all see, but it also payed homage to everything that came before, from the heart of soul and jazz, throughout all of black culture, from it's very roots to the hiphop it inspired, with all the grit and no holds barred. This is kendrick's perspective. A black man born in America, showing us the world through his eyes as he sees it.

GKMC had Backseet Freestyle, Maad City, Money Trees, Bitch dont Kill my Vibe, etc..
Damn. is his fkn blockbuster album with songs like DNA, Element, Duckworth and his biggest and most comercial song hes ever put out, Humble.
TPAD just doesnt fit that mold. The closest things to hits off it are songs like Blacker the Berry, King Kunta, and Alright (which I HAVE heard start to pop up in films , tv, etc.)
Loved this. Is the like button disabled? I tried to like the video and it did not change to "liked." Just FYI
