I think the reversed tracklist is actually the 'wickedness' path, because when you do listen backwards the album ends with Kendrick getting shot and Bekon saying 'is it wickedness?' on BLOOD. Among a bunch of other narrative threads pointing towards the mindset
You can definitely look at that album that way too! Most people actually do.. But i wanted to share my alternative perspective of how Ive always seen it
Yeah I defo see that and pretty sure he said it was intentional, like when you listen to it normally it goes from pride to humble, lust to love, fear to god. But when you hear it backwards it’s god to fear, love to lust, humble to pride. Damns super ambiguous which I think works well
Clicked on it cause of Kendrick, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out you have really quality content, more people should know about your channel. Great job!
Wow thank you so much! Im surprised because dont even know how you saw this video.. i'm a big fan of your video essays as well so this means a lot to me 🔥
This is easily the most thoughtful analysis of Damn I've ever heard. You, sir, are a gentleman of a scholar. You've got yourself a sub. Looking into any other work you've done the nanosecond after this comment has been posted. Can't wait for your next video.
I'd recommend you also check out Dissect Podcast's analysis of DAMN - it's extremely in depth, looking into the bible imagery and religious themes that weren't discussed much/at all in this video.
Imagine Being a victim For years then creating a Free Speech art and expressing your feelings about Being a Victim rather than Physically lashing out and they criticize you just talking about Being a victim.
I think this album and Mr. Morale are intrinsically tied together and almost serve as complimentary pieces. I think the relationship between these two albums is almost as interesting as either album on their own respectively so I hope you discuss that in your Mr. Morale video if you ever make one. Great video!
DAMN. -> Fear of judgment by FATHER God, Deuteronomy as a curse on Black people which can only be broken by obedience to God, heavy religious themes (LUST/PRIDE are deadly sins, YAH/GOD are both names for God)...also the album revolves around his real father and Top Dawg, two men who's choices heavily influenced Kendricks path. Mr. Morale -> focus on self-improvement and a clear turn away from Christianity, Kendrick says he "transformed, praying to trees God has taken shape", a more pantheistic/natural oriented philosophy..."The moment I chose humanity over religion, the family got closer it was all forgiven"! Also Mr. Morale unlike DAMN. focuses heavy on the women in Kendricks life. His mom, grandmother, aunt, wife. These women gave him the powers "I thought I lacked"...also back to the nature focused theme of the album, it's MOTHER nature in contrast to FATHER God On United In Grief he says "Feel like there's only one answer to everything I don't where it is", I take this as him saying the answer his cousin Carl gave him on DAMN. (Black people are in a bad place because of disobedience to God) isn't a proper answer for the issues Kendrick sees in himself and his community. Instead he chose a path of therapy, true healing and a more spiritual pathway. "I live my life in nature, only thing relieves me". This self improvement broke the generational curse, not some kind of adherence to Biblical scripture like his uncle proposed.
I was going to do a project for a class about this album and i haven't heard it in a while so I looked up a deep dive and this was such a good run down of this album and so well made. You're killing it

Oh man I think a whole video could be made about LUST alone. @@RealSpacial In all honesty he has so many songs that I really feel on a deeper level but I think Sing About Me, I’m Dying Of Thirst is my favorite.
