I think Kendrick presents pride as a choice, as in the deluxe edition of pride, kendrick choses pride, and the line ‘pride’s gonna be the death of you’ becomes a reality. However in the normal version of pride, he choses against pride, and is rewarded with it by not dying, and not having his father killed in duckworth.
This is objectively why kendrick is better than drake, he can make hit songs just like drake, but drake will never touch this level of depth in his music like kendrick.

It reminds me of that BigBoyTV interview where Kendrick ranked DAMN as his favourite album he's made - and for good reason. It really is that awesome, it just took me a while to realize. Great video!

PRIDE. is my absolute favorite song by kendrick. sure, there are more hype ones, and more memorable ones, but this song resonates with me on a whole other level.
At 6:36 I"ve heard people say that by saying indigenous disposition kendrick says that a perfect world would not be perfect as us humans are not perfect in nature so putting us in a perfect world would be indigenous disposition. This would also make sense because of the next thing he says which is ¨feel like we belong here¨ saying that humans feel like they belong in this imperfect world as they are not perfect themselves
I think it's interesting how it's the 7th song of the album, and it's also one of the 7 deadly signs. Always thought that was a really creative touch on DAMN.
This song definitely sticks out from others on the album. Even all these years later, I still get goosebumps hearing it. This video was like a whole documentary, impressive! Obviously one can take the song at face value and appreciate it, but this video greatly expands on it!
Thank you for this video. I am a very devoted christian now but there was a time when I first heard this song way back in 2017 in the midst of a dark depression, i had lost my faith and was consumed by my own desires aka pride. Its tough to listen to this song honestly because the lyrics spoke so deep to me I basically lived by that song at that time. Now i live in a much better position in life, much harder yes, much more responsibilities yes, much more people to worry about yes, no more time for me anymore yes, completely different perspective in life yes, constantly stressed and no sleep yes. But i would take all this over what i was back in 2017 anyday. Anyways, thanks for reading bro, keep up the excelent content, i subbed

Man either I’m stupid af or your smart af, because how do you get emotional detachment from a line that says cold December but never remember what winter did. Damn that’s some next level understanding man, great lyrical breakdown 🎶

The line "I'll probably die because that's what you do when you're 17" or something along those lines has always stuck with me. Really puts into perspective better than I think any single line on Section .80 or GKMC what its like to live in Compton

I love this bro, I’ve been wanting to make musical analysis videos but wasn’t too sure about it this has inspired me and I think I am going to follow through.
I think the reason why Pride is important is how it’s the middle point of both the Wickedness and Weakness route of the album. It’s the point where he begins to reflect on whether he should show his weakness and be “Humble” or does he become wicked and demand the “Loyalty” of others.
I don’t know what it is about this song but I’ve listened to DAMN so many times, every time I get stuck on this song, it makes me get chills hearing the “sick venom” line and I have no idea why it affects me like this. Great video man you made me feel how I do when I listen it.
At 3:34 I think there could be another meaning on verses "I don't trust people-, I don't love people-, I put my faith in-" is that it isn't necessarily that Kendrick chooses money over God but he could be talking about his own success, as in he only trust his own "lyrics" (Could be hands/ expertise) to bring him his success (Band) rather than relying on other people (I don't love people enough to put my faith in man).
I like to think the same way he calls out those in power making a world filled with lies, he does the same when he talks about what he would do in a perfect world. He’s no different at making hopeful promises that we know won’t be realized, further adding to the themes of pride.

This was an absolutely insane video, this easily deserves way more likes. Be ambitious and do not stop until you have found your true happiness. God bless❤
Thank you for the video! I really like your analysis and I want to add on a few of my thoughts. When Kendrick mentions "Last Time" in verse one, I think it refers to his last big studio album TPAB. You mentioned the album later but I think it comes up on more places. "This time I might put you down" means to me that last time he lifted us (the listener) up with TPAB, being very motivational, hopeful and uplifting but "This Time" in DAMN. he drags us down to darker places and truths he has dealt with. In verse two, he talks about "The Bed I Laid" which once again refers to TPAB. He blames himself for the hope he portrayed and thinks he can't live up to the hope now. "Point[ing] The Finger" can literally refer to the TPAB poem where he advocates for unification among black people against a common "enemy". He criticizes himself that he has to point out such a dichotomy just to "Make A Point". The "Indigenous Disposition" refers to how black people where brought to America during the slave trade. In TPAB, he likes to claim his place, calling himself "King Kunta" aka the King of the Slaves. After "Picking Cotton" and "Making America Rich" as explained in For Free?, he feels entitled to his wealth and status he built up. However, all that work feels out of place like a "Disposition" to him on DAMN. On some other songs like "YAH." and "FEAR." he claims himself to be an Israelite, which implies not only that he is cursed or damned but also that he doesn't belong in America. When Kendrick mentions "The Walls", I also look back at "These Walls" from TPAB. I believe that their meaning in this song refers to the sexual implications mentioned on TPAB, especially with the following line about "Hurt Becom[ing] Repetition". To me it seems that he is talking about broken relationships and meaningless sex which "The Love Almost Lost That". Once again thank you for your video, it really helped me to think about the song myself. I would like to add from an editing standpoint that it might be helpful to have some of the important text on screen for longer, but otherwise it was quite easy to follow your points and argumentation, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comment! I agree with a lot of what you said, and many of the things you brought up are very intelligent and make a lot of sense. This was the first “breakdown” video I made, so since I’ve grown quite a bit when it comes to analyzing things along with the editing. At some point I want to make a video on TPAB, but it will probably take me a while to make that video 👍
My Man ! I taught you were in the millions becuse of the quality of your videos, but you are just 1000?!?! Man how can you not be ín the millions, you worth more! (Sorry for my bad english, im from hungary😢)
One of the things I enjoy in this album, which directly lead to MM&TBS is how clearly we hear him struggling, and at times arguing with his subconscious. Even in Pride, you can hear how the song begins as a fully internal struggle that’s fully nihilistic, and as the song goes his flow/thought become much clearer as he’s began to accept and weigh the consequences. The album really turned from this song on, it’s immaculate the way the back half of this album plays.
At the beginning of the album he asks is it wickedness or is it weakness in blood. But I feel that in this song it is a turning point with instead of wickedness it is flashiness and instead of weakness it is happiness
I think fear is for sure the most important when it comes to the albums story and topics, the whole album until this song is Kendrick’s fear and feeling of being cursed being built up so fear can deliver the message of what he’s feeling.

since it's release I have been waiting for a analysis of this song
This is crazy kendrick 🐐
At the beginning of the album he asks is it wickedness or is it weakness in blood. But I feel that in this song it is a turning point with instead of wickedness it is flashiness and instead of weakness it is happiness
How is this not more popular, anyway I would love to see more Kendrick stuff im a big fan of his so this video did me good 👍
I think fear is for sure the most important when it comes to the albums story and topics, the whole album until this song is Kendrick’s fear and feeling of being cursed being built up so fear can deliver the message of what he’s feeling.
That's fair, it was mostly for the title tbh lmao
Love your thing brother.
Please make more videos like this this was awesome
