It did, but I personally think that’s a misstep. Tyler’s version of Mr. Morale is Mr. Immoral lol. His true north is something way more sinister than the kind of introspection we know other artists for. I think the best version of him somehow finds out how to have a challenging sound again
i've been sayingg since the drake vs kendrick beef that it didn't make sense to me that J Cole was still considered to be on the big three when Tyler has been a bigger and more creative artist for the past 5 years or more. loved this video!!
I am a huge Tyler enthusiast. I was a HUGE fan of Odd Future, their adult swim show, and their fashion back in the day and was upset when OF broke up, but Tyler has just kept evolving into himself more and more, and if it's not him it's a cool character to watch either way. Tyler has grown on me over the years and I'd have to say this is my favorite album to date from him.
true to an extent, he's never been afraid of being himself, he's simply matured and grown in many aspects, musically and personally. He branched out while keeping to his roots while digging away the rot, but hey maybe thats just me

I'm someone who mostly listens to alternative, rock or punk or whatever music, but i like Tyler's stuff mostly because it has a lot of feeling while being catchy.
Okay, a wild take from me and a wild comparison as well, but I feel Tyler is like Bachira from Blue lock anime. Hear me out. Blue lock, the football institute and training facility has this strict regime and a ranking system. And the Protagonist, Isagi tries to climb it and be the No. 1 striker, like your basic protags do. But Bachira as a character is so unique to this world and among characters, that, he doesn't even follow or care about the rules and ranks of the training system. His character isn't at all shown as some kind of a big 3 or a character that the protagonist should take as main rivals in the narrative, but still shown as someone who is realllly good at football. And all he does is just play like he usually does. He doesn't care about the standards, the play of football and just goes with the flow. He is that weirdo guy who is also someone who proves himself without even trying to prove and stands among the top, yk? And I feel Tyler's place in this whole rap game, he is like Bachira, weirdo (in a good way) and doesn't stick to the standards and expectations in the hip-hop space, and just does what he likes and that always brings him at the top and people look up at him as among the best in the industry. LIke, if someone says the top 3 in hip hop, no one is gonna mention Tyler, but when someone does mention Tyler, everyone would be like "oh shit, yeah he does stand shoulder to shoulder among the big 3". The main reasons why people don't bring him in the conversation is because, as Tyler said, he isnt just a rapper, he is Tyler and does stuff which he is passionate about and rap is one of them. He isn't someone you can rank. He just thinks out of the box and does things outside of standards.
Great comparison and character breakdown. There are big personalities that represent HipHop/rap that don't recognize Tyler as one of the big guys because he doesn't fit the stereotypes we all know. He's one of those children that get slightly pushed aside, is noticed by everyone except those I've named, but come out as a unique child that HipHop/rap really needs.
Really good analysis. Asks some really important questions, except for one: why is someone who started as an outsider so concerned with not being one anymore? I think you’re right that Tyler’s easily one of the biggest artists in hip-hop now, but it feels like it’s at the expense of some really challenging art that the mainstream could use. It serves us well for him to still know how to upset some people.
Arguably it was always the big three then Tyler. The mainstream part of the culture just had to soften to accept him over time while anyone who's been here since OFWGKTA knew what it was back then. That changed overtime with each solo project. That said, second mention: This man Tylers become an even bigger Bi-sexual icon than he already was.
Do you guys ever think that one day Tyler's going to drop his last album that brings every question together and it's actually going to destroy our freaking minds? This man is a creative genius. I'm obsessed with everything he does
I feel like it isn’t them taking any big 3 spots. It’s a new big 3. Travis n Tyler are certainly there I just dont know who’s third. Both Tyler n Travis aren’t solely rapping either which makes their reach way father. Carti n uzi are probably closest but I’m not sure if I’d give them the spot
I think this critique is so good :D!! Great job on the video! As a small critique on a critique (haha) I think some of the cultural nuances are lost within your explanations of different songs and sounds on the album. On the track “I killed you” it’s a celebration of blackness/African American culture within a larger culture of oppression that leads to black people suppressing and downplaying the traits that make them beautiful and unique. I do agree with your take that it is about his personal struggle with navigating and understanding his identity but I think there’s just more depth than what you eluded to in the video :D On that note, I also think the inspiration for Sticky is important in the consideration of the song. This song is inspired by HBCU drumlines and their catchy repetitive nature. I think saying the flow is dumb-down is a bit disingenuous with the lack of nuance to what he’s playing homage to. But overall great job and I love your analysis :)!!!
Kendrick has literally made a jazz album an audio documentary , an audio therapy session , and a soundtrack for a movie .... This was an unfair question
igor is elevated by its nature of storytelling through music, I think its objective is completely different from chromakopia I think it does achieve its goal better than chromakopia but this recent album still does what it sets out to do

You failed to mention the last verse on Noid that wasn't in the video, one of the best sonically on the whole album, which makes me wonder if you heard it.
The Big 3 is not a continuous concept, Drake, Kendrick & J Cole will always be the Big 3 as long as they're active. You can sell as much as you want but at the end of the day, those 3 are the Big 3 cause of their lyrical ability for the most part, coupled with the mainstream success.
@@austins.2495he made tpab and is honestly one of the best rap albums ever made. GKMC also has the best storytelling of all time. Every popular artist gets "glazed". He's a great rapper, with good beats, and good meaning and many other things
I’m so sick of Tyler the Creator having the identity and self proclaims themselves to be a rebel, someone who goes against the grain and then at the same time wonder why he’s not in the hip hop conversation
I wanna push back slightly on your early segment- I don't think Tyler's early work is any less emotional than his current stuff, or what was being put out at the time. It's brash, it's controversial, it's edgy for sure, but not unemotional. He tackled topics like feeling like an outsider, being rejected by the music industry, the consequences of his short rise to fame and being too young to be taken seriously, his (non)relationship with his dad, being misunderstood in a myriad of ways. I also think that the edge is emotion in itself- it's not like it comes from nowhere. People do that because they're angry with the world, and I think people being edgy for the sake of it in art gets a bad rap. When you're angry at the world for all the ways it's fucked sometimes you wanna just say some fucked up shit. And in that there's a political statement all of its own. I know Tyler has since said he doesn't like his edgy early stuff but I love his earlier edginess because sometimes I wanna just yell at the world and it's nice to know there's other people sick of it out there. I'm a big fan of punk rock, and I feel like the movement has been dulled to something more palatable recently. Tyler removing scum fuck from the title of flower boy speaks to that, changing the overarching presentation of his music to be more commercialized. I like his new pop music, it doesn't need to be so super edgy all the time and I like the sound, but there is something I miss about him going against the grain in that type of way. In a lot of ways he actually still has that edge in him, he just doesn't say the slurs anymore, so the mainstream takes it different. Don't get me wrong, he's still unique as an artist. But I miss that part of him that matured out. And I don't think it took away from the raw emotions he presented in his music, just like early punk rock being emotional and political and hurt and angry.
Solid video but i think putting Earfquake and Yonkers above "See You Again" is insane truthfully, even if they're bigger numbers wise I think See You Again would be picked up easier by a crowd than Middle Child if both were playing in Public tbh
Tyler is talented. No argument there. Ultra talented. It’s kinda wild seeing some peoples opinions on this though. I never would have guessed I would read that some people consider him to be a hip hop artist to be considered as a top 3 contender. I love his old albums the most, felt more real to me. Might have just been where I was at the time (currently 37), but like, his lyrics aren’t even close imo to being on the same intellectual level as the others in the category. It’s not even remotely close when you really listen to the tracks. Maybe I’m drunk or just in my own world…but it just isn’t even comparable. I feel like you’re trying to put him in a category that he just doesn’t belong in. He’s too different. He’s in his own lane and is doing phenomenal at it. Lmk if I’m high or something. Just my thoughts.
Comparing artists like Tyler, The Creator and J. Cole oversimplifies the diverse landscapes they each navigate. While charts can hint at audience preferences, they don’t reflect the vastly different audiences and artistic goals these artists have. Tyler’s introspective, genre-bending evolution targets a distinct crowd that values boundary-pushing creativity, while J. Cole’s grounded, storytelling approach resonates deeply with his core fans. Art is personal, and every artist holds a unique place for their audience.
Basically, we need to be honest about how versatile and deserving Tyler is to beat out "the big 3" with his range of sound and themes across his different albums. He has always been able to supply to the public what the music scene was in a deficit of and has what it takes to be the icon of a generation... basically what I got from the video
My only issue with Tyler is the same issue I have with Rick & Morty, the weird fans that glaze them into oblivion. Yes they might be a smaller subsection of the overall fan base but they’re by far the most vocal. They make it actually cringy and embarrassing to say you’re a fan of Tyler in public because immediately people get PTSD flashbacks just hearing the name. TLDR; Fans who meat ride are cringe and ruin everything.
A lot of people don't realize that older Kendrick songs most times had a deeper meaning, mostly connecting to God and Christianity, leading to a more personal feeling tying Kendrick music and meaning to his own past, which is something that was done a lot in the 90s, but very little from the 2010's and on.
I feel like Tyler deserves to not really be lumped into Hip Hop alone. His work has transformed so much over the years. I don’t know what it is. Pop? Expiramental? I’m not so sure. It definitely still has some roots in hip hop, no doubt, but it really isn’t like a Kenny album or Ye album. It’s very unique
Alright, look, I understand that he might be a great artist and all, but honestly.I know that a *bunch* of people love his music.I don’t hate him to oblivion.I just don’t like his music. Not for me.
I think this album made me realize why I can’t really f with drakes music. I look at artists like Kendrick and Tyler and see a continuous progression in their artistry. Heck even Travis kinda with utopia i see something in songs like my eyes, lost forever, and telekinesis. They just are growing where to me Drake can’t seem to grow out of what his prime was. Which to some people is ok but tbh I it’s like Tik tok music and gets old real quick. This new album by Tyler had some songs on it that really emphasized to me how human Tyler is. It’s not like I’m 14 and this is deep but kinda more like, wow he said a lot there… and then sticky comes on lol.
I view things differently. His name is Tyler, the creator. I think this means a lot more than people seem to consider. Like with the album art for his first releases, he’s wearing an anti-christed cross between his brows. Metaphysically speaking, one has a choice to be or not to be, which can be symbolised as a cross the right way up or inverted. This choice to be or not to be is really the crux of what it means to be a creator. Tyler was creating for himself an individual identity out of that which is one but also all; otherwise the cross would be the right way around when seen between the brows as representative of the logos, or the awareness that we are. His lyrics often imply metaphysical themes, his imagery and videos do also. So like I think he gets these things. When you choose to be not, what you’re doing is making a choice to be a me and a you, this comes with various changes in consciousness that continue to develop as that choice is made and made again. Unworthiness/worthiness, and their accompanying anger are a huge aspect of this choice. We see Tyler and his aggression at the forefront of his earlier music, but slowly a mask is made and he is able to become kind of opaque and reflective. These masks are the identity that we make; are the distinctions of you and I. Like a lot of this kind of understanding and his personal experience of these things can be seen in all of his work, but especially here. Chroma relates to optics and light. In a sense, we’re seeing Tyler’s transition from black and white dualistic thought to nuanced, full spectrum colour. Tyler is aware his identity is the logos, but initially on the path that he’s on, he’s making a choice to see only himself as that logos. That’s what the inverted path is kind of about. Over time we can definitely see him faltering with this choice, trading opacity for true vulnerability and radiance; trading what is seen as only ‘me’ for that which can be seen more as an all. Even the way he stands, with the light like the sun behind his head - as would saints - is revealing. There’s a lot of layers to his work and i find people and this video in general fail to address this, and kind of ponder along the surface of things. Tyler, the creator. The creator, is very important. Especially when it relates to light, the choice, and the idea of St Chroma. The logos we are is inherently shameless, is unconditionally loving, and I don’t but like I’m not happy with these surface level kind of dives into things. My words here do little to express the many layered and multifaceted meanings you can see not just in his music but also within his imagery. He’s expressing but I don’t know who’s listening properly … or maybe I’m just reading something into nothing.
Tyler doesn’t like that his genre bending projects have been given the name “hip/hop” when some are clearly pop. He’s not a hip hop artist. He’s just an artist
You can say Tyler is the better Artist overall compared to J Cole, but to ask if J Cole given us bold storytelling records just shows you’ve never really listened to his catalogue. 4YEO and KOD are both amazing storytelling albums, and Hey Jane is essentially Tyler’s Version of Lost Ones. If you’re gonna compare their artistry at least be honest.

The big 3 is a joke anyway. One is a pedo, one is a good rapper and Kendrick is the goat, but there are so many good rapper around.

what made the Big 3 the “Big 3” was that they were not only the biggest rappers, but some of the best too. They both had commercial success and critical success, though J Cole and Drake lack the latter in recent years
The big 3 was made up by Jcole to make 3rd place look better
@@wnuZeL nahh the big 3 was a concept since at least 2016, that’s when the whole heart soul and mind concept got attached to the 3, and the time even I saw how they were perceived as the big 3 of rap
I’m glad you said the new album gave mr morale vibes. That’s what I got from the new album.
Tyler himself, said he was heavily inspired by MMATBS for CHROMAKOPIA
He was 15 when he first drew that donut, and so on
I don't even remember when I decided to listen to his music but it was somewhere after Yonkers and the mixtapes. I swear, I said.. "this mf different." And ended up Golfwang lmao. I'm old af now and still don't know why I love this dude and his music. 😂😂😂
I literally thought that same about this album. It definitely feels like a mix of Speakerboxx/The Love Below and Mr. Morale. It's a really really good album that I can actually listen to with pretty much no skips. I'm an older guy so I enjoy the more mature theme. Tyler has grown on me over the years and I'd have to say this is my favorite album to date from him.

Igor was way more than a hip hop album, overall.
igor was not a hip hop album at all
Tyler isn’t Hip-Hop. He’s really in his own lane. Tylers genre is Tyler ❤️🔥
I remember when he won his first VMAs dude was so happy and no one didn’t really know who he was, I just knew him from Yonkers eating that bug

Tyler himself doesn’t like being classified as a rapper.
So what
Kendrick is from Compton bruh
Cool bro
I'd like to imagine they would like to be accepted. Like how drake really wants street cred to be more "in the crowd"
Tyler is a generational artiste...

Kendrick, Cole, Tyler, Travis are the only really big rappers I can think of
I think this critique is so good :D!!
5:36 XXXTENTACION did. To answer your question…
I agree but it’s different because his creation was cut short
Kendrick has literally made a jazz album an audio documentary , an audio therapy session , and a soundtrack for a movie .... This was an unfair question
bro gave chromakopia a 7.5 and tried to soften the blow with the 6 W system lol
this his best album
Id say igor is his best personally, but chromokopia is a close second with its amazing production and heartfelt lyrics.
Very valid take. I really love Chromakopia, but it just doesn’t quite top igor for me
imo igor is still his magnum opus project but this was his most genuine album and it rlly shows
igor is elevated by its nature of storytelling through music, I think its objective is completely different from chromakopia
I think it does achieve its goal better than chromakopia but this recent album still does what it sets out to do
Im not much of a hip hop fan but tyler got me hooked on some song of his and his strange way of making his song really inspired me to be my own type of person be different in some way

I’m so sick of Tyler the Creator having the identity and self proclaims themselves to be a rebel, someone who goes against the grain and then at the same time wonder why he’s not in the hip hop conversation
This album beginning to end was a 10 out of 10....🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think drake should be pushed out of the top three before j Cole
Tyler is just simply the most talented creator
The Off-Season alone is better than anything Tyler has made, Lets be fr
Solid video but i think putting Earfquake and Yonkers above "See You Again" is insane truthfully, even if they're bigger numbers wise I think See You Again would be picked up easier by a crowd than Middle Child if both were playing in Public tbh
Dot, Tyler and Cole is the big 3. Id personally put joell Ortiz in the place of Cole for my personal list but few ppl know joell.
Joel ortiz???😂😂😂☠️
I feel like I’ve seen this same video with same visuals and narration multiple times.
5:40 Yeah, Kendrick Lamar
Basically, we need to be honest about how versatile and deserving Tyler is to beat out "the big 3" with his range of sound and themes across his different albums. He has always been able to supply to the public what the music scene was in a deficit of and has what it takes to be the icon of a generation... basically what I got from the video
U could be right abt “darling, I” but I think “sticky” could be the one
Tyler takes the “Creator” part of his rapper namesake to an entirely different level with every single album.
Everyone said what needed to be said. Top notch album hands down! 💕🔥 it’s the growth and creativity for me 🫡

I love the aesthetic hes going for and his music its beautiful
I’m not gonna lie top 3 is crazy, let’s just settle with top 5
Most diverse artists since Andre 3k, sure. No one changed rap more than 3k though
Never question j Cole he is in the big 3 fall off on the way
Tyler doesn’t like that his genre bending projects have been given the name “hip/hop” when some are clearly pop.
