Interesting thing about Ratooeys are that they're actually related to Throphers from Super Mario RPG. The Japanese name for Ratooeys: Mokomoko, is derived from Thropher's Japanese name: Mukumuku. In the remake, Chapter 6's concept art even includes an early design of the Ratooey Businessman that depicts him as a Thropher.

I personally like the diversity many of the older paper mario games had, with both familiar species and some new ones, they also made a few of them diverse in appearance from each other.
I love the Shaman, like Merluvlee, Merlon and Merlee across the games, they are so cool and offer great gameplay services to the player. maybe the reason why Punio wasn't made a partner is simply because they could not think of a moveset for him (cause to be fair, how much can Puni's really do?) ((also I guess Shadows don't count? you know, Vivian, Beldam and Marilyn))
