I love Spike and his films, however "Do The Right Thing" is one of my all time favourite films that's so engaging and brilliant I never get tired of watching it.
I currently make films without a big budget and I act in them too because I can't afford actors. And seeing Spike Lee started some what the same way, inspires me so much. I might not achieve the same things or I might not be as good as Spike all my life, but one thing I learned watching this video is to be consistent and not ever stop learning, you'll eventually reach a height that you could've never imagined you'd reach.
Spike is one f the greatest filmmakers ever to live. I'm thankful for the inspiration and artistry over the years! Thx Studio Binder for highlighting his work, please highlight more filmmakers of color!
@@mcdonaldsemployee4979 I mean, it is what it is. If he were giving a presentation to children under the age of 12 I would say it’s in appropriate. And his films are rated R. POOR spike lee. when did tarantino django come out, he said: "American slavery was not a Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It was a Holocaust. My ancestors are slaves stolen from Africa. I will honor them." you understand, if spike's ancestors had not been kidnapped from Africa by terrible white colonists, now he would be a Liberian or Cameroonian director, and would make much cooler films than now. and an essay from the studiobinder about him would be more interesting.

One thing you can really learn from the series: How the editors are becoming better and better Starting at a professional and basically flawless level but continouisly mastering the format, finding the small changes you can make, fitting the timing and inserting matching seconds of footage
Spike Lee is one of the most talented and cerebral filmmakers out there and really knows how to tell a compelling story with amazing visual camera compositions.
This was more of his philosophy of filmmaking rather than how he directs a film. I was thinking we would get more into specific shots that are iconic to him, his use of montage, his classic dolly shot, insight on the way he writes scripts. I'd love another video getting into his technicalities!
I think we heard the explanation why in the excerpt from S. Jackson with his comparison to Tarantino. He mentioned that Tarantino will really get into the weeds of the motivation, framing, and thought process of the characters while directing, meanwhile Spike Lee mostly has trust in the actors chosen to have a similar vision to his own and intuit from there. But yes, of course it would have been nice to get his reasoning behind his iconic dolly shot and use of Red. But still, maybe it's one of those things that he just intuited to be great for the life of the film and continued using it.
People go to film school and learn same thing and pay for it and studio binder giving it free. Thank you to the team of studio binder. You always have respect in my heart. Love from India. 🇮🇳
Such stories keep me going with my RUclips channel with a hope that one day I will be a film director off RUclips Thank you studiobinder for such inspirational stories
I love this episode. Spike Lee was a trailblazer who opened the doors for many black filmmakers today. I would love to see a How to Direct like John Singleton and Martin Scorsese episode.

The TV . My grandparents and I viewed Motown 25 and then it happened , Michael Joseph Jackson performed my favorite song , Billie Jean . My grandmother giggled in awe . She remembered the ABC Michael , but this was new .
The curiosity in TV started early , during an episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air . All I knew then was that you wrote ir down like a school Christmas play . 📺💡

Spike Lee does not make a living making films. He is employeed by NYU as a film instructor. He gets to make film in-between those employee paychecks . Tell the whole truth, not just part of it. Becoming a full time artist isn't easy, that's why he went and got a full time job from an establishment that pays him as an employee when he cant make money doing his films. You barely see any Spike Lee films anymore, u know why, because he has to work. That's why, and that is what the rest of us are doing. Valuable words here, but u forgot to state that spike had to back track and go get a job, being a film director making the types of film he was making wasn't working for his survival. Tell the whole truth.
Well at least he still doing what he love and teaching each one teach one! So what if he went and got a job he went to what he know and loves so it probably don’t feel Like work he teaching they can brag and say professor spike lee taught me this trick with camera shots lighting writting drama class not lazy
Nina and Lena were sisters . They didn't go to school with me . Their mom was a professor and so they attended school in the college town .We'd just chill under the street lights and talk .
