My 15 year old son played the DVD a few days ago. I sat down with him and we watched it together for the first time. Malcolm was a father, a mentor and a guide to me. I love Malcolm and I appreciate his sacrifice. He really loved us. I get my bravery from him. Thank you, Spike. Following since Do The Right Thang. By Any Means Necessary.

I was surprised that Spike didn’t pick Lawrence Fishbourne to portray Malcolm X since he physically looked more like him, even the small gap in the front teeth and the height but WOW what a performance by Denzel ( Fishbourne even had the serious look that closely emulated Malcolm X)!
Denzel and Spike got robbed by the Oscars!! Spike could’ve won for best supporting actor and director)!!!
I read the book as a late teen and made sure that this was the first book (besides Diary of a Nerdie Kid) that my son read. My son loved the book and Malcolm X became his hero too!

I always wondered why Fishbourne never worked with Spike after School Daze. Both are great actors and my two of my favorite - Spike made the right choice but when I heard the movie was being made I just assumed Fishbourne would play the part. Neither actor has ever made a bad movie.

And now we have the absurdity of putting blacks in Anne Boleyn and the story of Troy as Achilles not to mention countless other films where they’ve just changed white characters for black ones. As well as making blacks the heroes in almost every film they are featured in. Little spikey would be very gratified. BUT IT STILL WOULDNT BE ENOUGH.

Why are you so convinced that there were no blacks in the Trojan times or during the Age of Reason? Because media and public school didn't feed it to you as a child? Be an adult. See the story through the eyes of a literate discerning grown person.

Wow. Seeing blacks in your sanitized lily white history really sickens you. Pathetic.

Did anyone else catch that the man narrating chose to exclusively marry the white devil's women? No disrespect. I love Darth Vader. And I love James Earl Jones. But the irony...
