If your hand is numb and fingers tingling you could be diabetic or have reynaulds syndrome or carpal tunnel syndrome... Get checked.... Deedee...
Could be B12 deficiency. I have pernicious anemia and it causes hand and feet tingling and numbness. Get doctor to check your bloods
I know for tattoo artists, wood workers and some construction workers, using a vibrating machine, like a sander or tattoo gun, causes pretty big problems. The vibration keeps blood from circulating to the finger tips and causes carpal tunnel like symptoms. Its on the safety sheet for a lot of stuff. I would imagine the clippers are the same way, and repetitive motion is really bad too.
If it tingling and numbness was “overnite” could simply be how you slept and c6-8 kinked (the nerve there shoots straight into arm and hand fingers) have someone help you work it by massage or if solo try to rotate so you can get blood glowing there again.

A short hair cut is like a fresh start for both the dog and the pet parent since they only had her for a short time

I’ve never seen a dog shake so badly during a groom. Poor baby. She must have been terrified. Hopefully she’ll feel better now.
She is not terrified, she is shaking from cold.
Some old dogs just shake.

Maltese Breed has no undercoat. If left matted can produce a skin condition actually. matts hold in Moisture .
She looks cute! Nice job! She's lucky to have a new home at her age, blindness, and with her skin issues. Many older dogs can't find good homes, even if they have no medical problems.

Ok.... the fact that she even needs to say something about people not liking that she's shaving her... SAD! If it's not ur dog, it's not ur choice, plain and simple. Ur not paying for it, ur not living with her, no need to publicly voice ur own crappy opinion about someone else's animal. Ur allowed to have an opinion, but if it's not nice, keep it to urself please.. 🙂
Can you please post what this skin condition is called please? My senior dog sufferers from what I believe is the same thing

I agree with you about the food, I think it's the root of the skin problem. I have 5 Malteses myself and I know that they can be very prone to allergies. I give mine only raw meat/fish, liver, kidneys, heart and lungs. If they get any grains, soy or any carbs they start itching. One of my Maltese can't tolerate salmon or fatty fish she start to itch too. I never give any of my dogs chicken either.

why do say most blind dogs move around a lot ? asking because mine is blind ; I cut his hair since I no longer can afford a groomer and he does move around a lot. Just curious what you think is the reason they do that and did you mean, specifically they move around during grooming ? thanks And also appreciated learning about the angle of the clippers , since I never knew that. I always stop a lot and make sure it does not get hot. I will try your technique. My dog is a Schnoodle so, interesting coat. Btw IMO , I think she reacted when you did her head because of the blindness. That's what my dog does now, too.

I had a neighbor once who had mental health issues and she had a Maltese that had never been groomed and the mats were so bad , she could not walk ; the mats were curled up and tangled under her paws and her ears were stuck to her head with mats. I talked the woman into letting me take her to the groomer and told her it'd be no cost to her. Took a lot to convince her but finally we did. Took the groomer all day long it was awful. The groomer did not want to let the lady have the dog back but I said I promised this woman I would not them take her dog. And that I'd check up on her to make sure she kept up with it. :-(

My Maltese had a scaly, stinky skin condition and I used all sorts of special shampoos, etc. After surgery to remove bladder stones, I had to start feeding her special food, and her skin condition disappeared! Diet very much contributes to skin allergies in dogs.

One thing I've noticed about you is bringing a question to mind...you don't give affection to the dogs. Is there a reason for that?
You probably already know this, but the vibrations from the shears are what's causing the tingling and numbness in your hands, which is actually a form of carpal tunnel syndrome. At night, you should sleep with a wrist brace...it'll help keep your hands from aching and going numb. Great job on the "puppy" by the way...❤

people who use their hands and wrists alot every day can acquire carpal tunnel, etc., typists, groomers, pianists, and others. you can buy, at the pharmacy, wraps to go around the wrists.
Shave and save! At that age I'd keep her shaved anyway we live in Florida here and if you see all the doggies here they're shaved except for their face and their tails everything shaved but no matter where you live a dog you like that either keep it cut really close or just shave it down I'd shave it all down and I pick all those things off and put some ointment on them and give her antibiotics and send her to bed LOL

DeeDee, have you ever been evaluated for cervical stenosis? It would account for your symptoms.
It could be diet . I had a dog that had a skin condition and I changed his food and the skin condition went away . Some dogs are more sensitive than others . It's worth a try .
I would love to adopt a senior dog but the vets charge so much around here that it's impossible. Makes me really sad...
I'm glad she got a for ever home . Time for her to retire and rest . Gonna go rescue a older dog soon myself. Really appreciate the older ones. As I say gotta give the loves loves .
