I love how Matt Murdock cracked jokes, but it wasn't like overly cringey. They felt like jokes the Netflix Matt would make. He was also in flirty mode, so it makes sense that he'll be a little more light-hearted around Jen. He still feels like Matt, and I appreciated that.

Look at Spider-Man for example, his classic 60s cartoon theme has been tied to how many of his different versions? superman or Batman are pretty good examples to. Not to say you could be wrong but more often then not they put theere themes in there just to create a little excitement and just a little head nod to the fans who love his series.

As someone who is really sick of Marvel's need to make everything into comedy, I was relived to see this handled very well. I think it's as simple as Matt being written consistently with the person we saw on his own show. What would've stunk is if they fed him all the same quips and too-self-aware irony of all their other characters. The way they avoided that wasn't not to give him a sense of humor, but making sure his humor derived from his specific character. Matt has a lot of demons, lives with a great deal of sadness, has unhealthy and self-destructive habits, and can be caustically antisocial if he wants to. But he is not just "dark" as a personality. Back in the Netflix show he was smooth and self-assured in conversation, especially with women, and wasn't shy about showing off his skills (usually as a lawyer, but in this case as a superhero). Character-driven humor - what a concept!

Plus, this also explains why Kingpin was able to get shot in the chest with 2 arrows, rammed by an SUV, and stand over a massive explosion only to survive. Netflix Kingpin wouldn't have been able to handle that due to the fact that he was much more human and realistic. Not to mention DD single handedly beat him to the point of KO twice in the Netflix version.

I know people have a lot of beef with this show and for some parts I get it the writing has been a bit hit or miss but honestly I just find it so charming & fun it's self aware about a lot of it's humor and I think people overcriticize some of the cringe parts or misunderstand a lot of things that are coming from a woman's perspective and are really relatable to women like the bathroom scene after Jennifer first changes, the kindness of strangers helping her clean herself up and feel good only to be catcalled immediately... then she does what every girl wishess they could do when weirdos feel entitled to their attention 🤢 Overall I think it's a good show if you don't like it I understand but this is one of my favourite Marvel things in years personally 🤔
