Whereever you choose to go, do include a lot more of the sights and landscapes you are travelling through. You can still be as vocal as ever but we don't need to see so much footage of the car internally, or you talking to the camera!
Yes the Volvo C40 RWD would be most interesting, I test drove the 2023 here in Canada and look forward to the more efficient and better range 2024 RWD!
Let’s go on several epic road trips! I’m sure I will watch all of the videos, but I really love Polestar and Volvo so I will appreciate you travel in one of those 🙂
You can do Atlantic Ocean (Lisbon/Portugal ) to Black Sea (Constanta/Romania). No problem with charging network in Romania, there are plenty of fast DC charging (150kW +). See yourself in ABRP (you will need eCharge app in 90% of cases). From Budapest you go towards Arad, Sibiu, Pitesti, Bucharest mostly on motorways (except crossing the Carphatian Mountains), You can try Transfagarasan “probably the best road in the world” according to Jeremy Clarkson, or Transalpina high altitude road (similar, some would say even better). Good luck!
Kris glad you're planning to focus on more affordable EVs in the near future as I'll likely be in the market for one in the next year. A trip to Los Angeles would be great but note that the LA Auto Show takes place in November not January.
Glad to hear that’s more what you’d enjoy to see on the channel 😊 Maybe I can make it in November, but I think coming to the US next year probably is more likely 👍
Hey Kris, that’s exciting news - I love a good road trip. The C40 was my second choice after my new Polestar 2 RWD and the Volvo is a beautiful car, so I’d love to see you drive it to Africa. I’d like to see you do some destination charging to get to more remote areas. The EV6 would also be good to watch and is a popular car here in Australia with Hyundai/Kia announcing more volume coming our way with dealers now having stock. That’s a shame that Polestar couldn’t supply you with a rear-wheel-drive LR car for the trip yet but maybe next year. I’ll be doing some trips in my P2 by then too.
I drove the Polestar performance and did not like the accelerator tune. Every mm u pushed down on the accelerator pedal did not result in increases to speed. It had dead spots in its travel. I ended up buying a My24 C40 Twin. Tune was a lot better. 1:1 in pedal travel and response.
I hope you will make a road trip with the Peugeot e-3008 too, when it comes out early 2024. Long trips in affordable cars will be very interesting to watch. I also vote for UK 😊
might be worth considering the XC40 for a simple reason - you can sleep in it. Obviously you can do that with a C40 as well (and I guess even the polestar if you're not picky) but having the shade on the moonroof makes it easier in the XC40. For a big road trip like yours, it just gives you options in case a booking falls through, you get stuck at a surprisingly slow charger, or even just for a little extra content.
oh I guess you could just buy physical sunshade for the c40! Anyway might be worth packing some window shades and stuff for sleeping juuuust in case...
I would have watched your trip to Germany however the car I just wasn't interested in, and here in Australia it's very highly priced and classed in the luxury segment well out of my price range and many people actually. I'd have watched if it was say the EX30(if it was available for example) or the new 2024 Kona EV purely as they are EV's in my price range. Will be interesting to see the future long distance trips you are planning. The Polestar 2 isn't bad at the entry level pricing unfortunately probably the only one as the other 2 will be 6 figures when they arrive.
I would like to see a epic road trip in a affordable ev just to show people you don't need a expensive car to go ev. Also a basic polestar 2 would be great to see on a trip. Show people that they don't need this and that.
Road trip to Morocco or Turkey seems to be most exciting. Why not do it with a chinese car. For example a Hongqi or the new Xpeng G9. I bet there is a lot of interest for these cars, and its not that many videos of these cars on european channels on YT.
Whatever you choose go for the version with the smallest battery. Most people cannot afford even the ‘lower’ priced cars like the ones you are discussing with the biggest batteries as these are still expensive.
Splendid idea to take an EV for a really long trip. Of course there will be epic views and all that. But the other maybe more important thing is ot show that it's just not possible to take long trips with EV's, but also actually not that difficult that "petrol heads" claim. Today I put in my order for a Model 3 Highland, so I'm diving into EV ocean with head first. It will be interesting to see your experiences during a long trip. Both the good things but also if there are some special problems occurring. As you point out that range tests are interesting, but a real world experience with EV cars might be more helpful to see.
Even at 2160p, the video is not clear and has no sharpness, something is not correct with your video equipment. When you show maps or the polestar 2, then it is sharp and clear. And I really like the idea of doing such a long road trip.
There is nothing wrong with my video equipment. There is footage from three different lenses in this video, the one that looks the best is from my new lens that I broke in Germany. That is the footage from the Polestar 2. The lens I broke cost 1000€, so I just can't go out and buy one. I agree that the footage from the Polestar 2 looks the best, but honestly - the other footage looks good as well. None of it is unsharp or unclear from where I am sitting. The actual issue may be that videos aren't always fully processed by RUclips the first hour or few hours they are dropped. Even you can choose 4k, you aren't always getting 4k or the best codec. This will depend on how early you watch a video and from what region you are watching it from. Comments like yours are always within the first few hours, so that is why I suspect that being the issue. I've seen video taking as long as 24 hours to be fully processed.
Many thanks for explaining, makes totally sence, I will check again tomorrow, just wanted to let you know, because I like your videos and it would be a shame if others would now watch your videos because of the video quality. @@KrisRifa
I think the C40 is the most do-able because I think the demand for it will fall as the EX30 hits the market. Comes with up-o-date Google Maps and EV route/charger planner
Volvo is going in the wrong direction with their interiors -- trying to emulate Tesla too much. Putting more stuff unsafely (for the driver) into a touchscreen is NOT the way to go. Keeping physical buttons/dials for climate and audio controls is essential. All automakers who continue to try making their car interiors look like a cheap iPad computer center are going to lose out, because most people do NOT want their car interiors looking like that. Most people don't want to be spending tens of thousands of dollars to drive what looks like a go-cart inside with super-cheap-looking video-game screens inside and with all/mostly-glass roofs and gigantic wheels/tires. No, Volvo interiors with Mach-E-like instrument panels and vertical iPads-glued-to-dashboards are going to turn off most people before they even look further at whatever plusses these cars might have (and I struggle to find many, inside or out, with small-ish battery packs, slow charging speeds, etc.), which in turn will lead to horrible re-sale value in a few years. Wasted money by Volvo, and wasted money by anybody who buys these things. (Context: four-time Volvo buyer here, but probably never again.)
Whereever you choose to go, do include a lot more of the sights and landscapes you are travelling through. You can still be as vocal as ever but we don't need to see so much footage of the car internally, or you talking to the camera!
Yep - chill down and enjoy the ride
i love to see the trip in the C40

Yeah, I thought about that while editing the video! Great idea :)
You are welcome to Africa my friend!
Thanks!

How about a Volvo C40 in the snow. I can't wait to take my 2024 C40 AWD to the snow in Melbourne.
snow in Melbourne? Am I missing something here?

I think the LA autosomal is in late november
Autoshow
What sort of charging infrastructure do they have in Morocco?
Not a lot, but that's also kind of the point!

Definitely interested after my P2 lease is up in 2025.
Make it Norway to South Africa Via Kenya. :-)
I can do that next year maybe? :)
Good stuff. Here for the content@@KrisRifa
What about Iceland
Iceland is on my list, but not this time of the year. It's gonna get even colder and darker than Norway. Next summer perhaps!
Kris, do Europe. That is most relevant for me in Europe 👍
Polestar2 longrange single motor rwd😊
Spain would be more interesting than Africa for a long trip, especially in a 2024 RWD Volvo
Didn't you see the map at 0:39? 🤣
well if you are in spain ..... Gibraltar is on the end of vaerry close To Spain ANd from rthere it goe a Ferry To Morocco you ar not well informed
