    Hello Thom! Yesterday, we drove part of the same highway route in our C40 Plus RWD ER my2024, so equipped with 19-inch wheels. There was little wind, and the temperature was 19 degrees Celsius. We covered 312 kilometers, ACC at 100 km/h (average of 90 km/h). Energy consumption was 15.4 kWh/100 km! So far, we've driven a total of 3300 kilometers, with an average consumption of 14.6 kWh/100 km. We’re still pleasantly surprised by the efficiency! This C40 is an amazing car!

      Glad to hear! Do you have the range optimization and AC turned on? 😊

    • @MrStonelady
      @MrStonelady Год назад +6

      “That’s correct Thom, both are on.
      Charged up to 90% this morning.
      The onboard computer indicates a range of 510 km.
      This morning, a total trip of 260 km, including driving over the Afsluitdijk. There, with strong headwinds, ACC set at 100 km/h, consumption was 20.5 kWh/100 km. Total consumption 17.4 kWh/100 km.”

    Hej all! Small correction, I state that the SM ER has 272hp, but, this is 252hp. 🙂

    Thank's for the Video Thom. I drove the 24 Single von Bremen to Hamburg and vice versa with an average consumption of 18.4 Kwh/100 km. I was really surprised, that my new 24 Twin - witch i drove from Nuremberg to Bremen - got an average consumption of 19.8. I had a similar average speed of 89 km/h. So i think the asyncron motor in the front works really well.

    Thanks for the efficiency/range comparisons! Especially comparing with you pre-update xc40r. Based on your ovbservatuons and TeslaBjorns early Polestar efficiency reviews i'm starting to lewer my expectations for ex90 which as a cincept looked promissing as the next family car.

    • @thom-lov

      Considering the size and weight of the EX90, that simply cannot be impressive efficiency wise. Obviously being a giant SUV haha!

    Hi Thom, I‘m a bit surprised as well about the consumption, my expectations were higher.
    And well, the rear motor has vibrations when accelerating, no good news, Volvo really seems to have some problems here. I have driven several EVs and never had this on any other car before I got my C40.

    • @CaryInVictoria

      It's curious. I have a '23 C40 (Jan 23 delivery) and have not experienced any vibration problems at any speed. Maybe my good fortune is do to me having the tailored wool seats.

      I wonder if addressed this?

  • @leolansbergen7013
    @leolansbergen7013 Год назад +4

    Hi Thom, thanks for your test drive. On the highway, did you use one pedal drive with cruise control combined or only one pedal drive? Do you think this will affect efficiency differently?

    • @thom-lov
      @thom-lov  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I pretty much always drive with one pedal drive and combine it with the pilot assist/cruise control on highways. Also did during this trip. Driving only OPD may even be less good for efficiency as you constantly give input, whilst CC is a lot more continious/less variable of course. 😊

    with our MY23 (same as MY22) dual motor in the summer we average 19.4 kwh-/100. If we're doing long stretches on dutch motorways at 105 km/hr on the dashboard we get 20.5. Our battery is still in good shape so we get about 350 kms range during the summer. I think the big advance with teh new car is the faster flatter charging. However, for most of teh time we have more than enough range and only charge at home. The long trek to Finland we only really encounterde problems in Sweden because at some big intersections there just isn't enough infrastructure and we had to wait (30 mins) or drive on to 150KW chargers without any facilities. Which costs you just as much time because you have to use wc's and get a coffee at some point anyway. Sweden needs to catch up!

    One poster below said they have experineced vibration from the rear motor- my new C40 2023 has had vibration in the steering column at highway speeds (71 mph and 76 mph) and I am looking to turn it back in. Whats up withj Volvo and this vibration problem!!! Releasing cars worldwide with these problems makes no sense- even lesser brands Ford GM etc do not have these problems

    • @--Wingman--

      My test drive in a 2023 C40(ex rental) also has the vibration under load. I believe it is the CV axle shaft.
      Has Volvo fixed this?

    • @johnarmentrout8497
      @johnarmentrout8497 Месяц назад +1

      My 2022 had a slight front end vibration as well at 65-70 mph. It needed new tires and I hoped that new tires would fix it. They didn’t. I then got a very accurate tire gauge and set pressures to exactly what they spec on the door frame plate. And thankfully the vibration is gone.

    I got my XC40 LONG RANGE two weeks ago... Picked it up at the dealer with 100% battery with only 390km range... It's impossible, even with combined road use, to get even close to the 450km range... I'm very disappointed... My previous Hyundai Kona was able to get 450km range easily..... Cost Hyundai: 44.000 euro... Volvo 58.000 euro....

      FYI, the range will learn your driving style, road conditions, average speed and temperature. Keep the speed down and in warm weather, 450km is very possible, even on my 2022 XC40 with 20” rims.

      Yes doe ik ook, prima prijzen en werkt goed. Maar, het gaat meer om het punt dat de auto laadpalen voorstelt waar je wel een account/payment moet aanmaken. Dat is oke, maar de baseline drempel zou bv een lader moeten zijn waar je met een laadpas of draadloze pin kan betalen. Om vervolgens in settings oid ook bv Tesla aan te vinken. 😊

    Surprisingly bad efficiency. Hard to compare of course as I live in a different part of Europe, but after 3500kms my 2024 Twin averages around 18.5kwh/100km. On a 600km run through southern germany, Switzerland and France (120-135 where permitted), I averaged 19.1 at a speed of 89kph. Would have expected the single motor to undercut that figure.

    Re: the C40 RWD. Vibration from the motor? Hummm. not medium. Efficiency with that big pano roof letting the cabin heat up is not the greatest. And here in Canada they really aren't competitive price wise with the Model Y.

Assuming he was referring to the person occupying the front passenger seat, and not the canine in back, I strongly doubt that he would have had the courage to order that particular configuration no matter how fond he was of it.
