  • Forbes's Thomas Brewster wanted to know just how secure facial recognition technology is today and how easy it would be to trick the system. With 3D printed head in hand, it's a pretty easy feat.

It a real shame that after 2 years, many YT commentators still can't tell the difference in the level of security between 3d "IR" data and 2d image "optical" recognition, where both widely uses in fingerprint ID a decade before. This improvement to mobile device because of the development of xbox Kinect and IR camera in general.

This is straight up dumb. Those androids have basic 2D facial recognition, while the iPhone X has this special 3D sensors that manage to make a better scan and ultimately be more secure. It was obvious that the iPhone was gonna win (because of that 3D system) and the androids were gonna loose (because they have 2D facial recognition). This immediately puts the iPhone at an advantage. But, to all of those saying that that's why iPhones are better, let's make Forbes make the exact same test with Android phones that have 3D facial recognition systems (such as the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro or the Oppo Find X) and we will most likely see the exact same results. This test is just dumb and senseless, because the iPhone clearly had an advantage from the beginning.

I thought a lot of facial recognition relied on finding your eyes (the blacks of the pupil tend to be easy anchorpoints for recognition). because everyhone has the ability to 3d print such a head...i mean who cant just go to this comepany to print a head so you can unlock own device only, seems really like something everyone would do... of course the android devices will fail because they only use 2d scanning...

Valentin well apparently they did by capturing photo of the eye and placed contact lenses on top of it. and it worked. go and make your researches first.

*I dare you to repeat this test using a HUAWEI Mate Pro and Oppo Find X with the iPhone X and let's see the results.*
*These other phones shown here have 2D systems for their facial recognition and only the iPhone has a 3D system.*
*So why not bring Androids that also use 3D systems.*
*Is this test paid for by Apple or what?*
