by robbing you of more money as often as he finds it for his interest or pleasure to do so; and by branding you as a rebel, a traitor, and an enemy to your country, and shooting you down without mercy, if you dispute his authority, or resist his demands* . *He is too much of a gentleman to be guilty of such impostures, and insults, and villanies as these* . *In short, he does not, in addition to robbing you, attempt to make you either his dupe or his slave* . *The proceedings of those robbers and murderers, who call themselves “the government,” are directly the opposite of these of the single highwayman* . *In the first place, they do not, like him, make themselves individually known; or, consequently, take upon themselves personally the responsibility of their acts* . *On the contrary, they secretly (by secret ballot) designate some one of their number to commit the robbery in their behalf, while they keep themselves practically concealed* . *They say to the person thus designated:* *Go to A- B-, and say to him that “the government” has need of money to meet the expenses of protecting him and his property* . *If he presumes to say that he has never contracted with us to protect him, and that he wants none of our protection, say to him that that is our business, and not his; that we choose to protect him, whether he desires us to do so or not; and that we demand pay, too, for protecting him* . *If he dares to inquire who the individuals are, who have thus taken upon themselves the title of “the government,” and who assume to protect him, and demand payment of him, without his having ever made any contract with them, say to him that that, too, is our business, and not his; that we do not choose to make ourselves individually known to him; that we have secretly (by secret ballot) appointed you our agent to give him notice of our demands, and, if he complies with them, to give him, in our name, a receipt that will protect him against any similar demand for the present year* . *If he refuses to comply, seize and sell enough of his property to pay not only our demands, but all your own expenses and trouble beside* . *If he resists the seizure of his property, call upon the bystanders to help you (doubtless some of them will prove to be members of our band)* . *If, in defending his property, he should kill any of our band who are assisting you, capture him at all hazards; charge him (in one of our courts) with murder, convict him, and hang him* . *If he should call upon his neighbors, or any others who, like him, may be disposed to resist our demands, and they should come in large numbers to his assistance, cry out that they are all rebels and traitors; that “our country” is in danger; call upon the commander of our hired murderers; tell him to quell the rebellion and “save the country,” cost what it may* . *Tell him to kill all who resist, though they should be hundreds of thousands; and thus strike terror into all others similarly disposed* . *See that the work of murder is thoroughly done, that we may have no further trouble of this kind hereafter* . *When these traitors shall have thus been taught our strength and our determination, they will be good loyal citizens for many years, and pay their taxes without a why or a wherefore* . *It is under such compulsion as this that taxes, so called, are paid* . *And how much proof the payment of taxes affords, that the people consent to support “the government,” it needs no further argument to show* . *Lysander Spooner (1870)*
What history buffs of Mr. Spooner attempt to hide or diminish is that he was a Socialist. A scary word to many today, but not so much to those alive when the making of this Nation. As for myself it is not a problem personally. His words and description of government has several samplings of truth. One thing though, is saying that we "don't give consent" to how government treats us, in this I must point out, that by the mere act in partaking of Elections and choosing members as our "representatives" in government we MAY be unintentionally agreeing to government "slavery". I remind one also, that the unique Mr. Spooner existed in the 1800's, taking on the entire U.S. government with weapons and force, in the modern era, and think to be successful is perhaps, at best, improbable. Government officials have declared people of Mr. Spooner's idealism as being "Sovereign Citizens" and have thus labeled them as enemies and anarchists and to be treated as such, which is why these ideas are not, at present, in the mainstream of society. All that being said, Mr. Spooner was quite an Individual and his history deserves the bit of attention it is given.
First part of her statement, "If you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't be concerned" then she says, right afterwards, ... "you don't know what theyre doing with the data..." THAT'S WHY WE ARE CONCERNED!
Lemme fix that for you:"Because how much facial recognition is important to the future control of our society." Your way makes it seem charming & quaint and only bad people want to hide. I’m glad there are so many aware people in the comments who value data privacy, especially the the most important data (since it’s not easily changed)-biometric. That woman at the beginning is nuts.
"If you don’t have anything to hide, you shouldn’t be concerned" -MOST RIDICULOUS AND COMMENTED STATEMENT FROM THIS VIDEO This girl is clearly an example of someone with a lot of knowledge and no wisdom.
It's a shame that you either didn't watch the video or stopped at literally that sentence, because the arguments that she launched into against that statement with the next sentence were very interesting.
Ah, the old, "if you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't worry". THEY AREN'T TRYING TO FIND PEOPLE WITH 'THINGS TO HIDE'! They are trying to BE ABLE to find ANYONE! Beware facial recognition....
The problem with all of the strategies to evade facial recognition discussed in this video is that no one is going to go outside in public wearing large black stripes on their faces etc. In the real world effective facial recognition evasion techniques would have to be way more subtle than face painting.
"It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself--anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. In any case, to wear an improper expression on your face...; was itself a punishable offense. There was even a word for it in Newspeak: face crime..." ~ 1984
Please: - Follow up footage of IR LEDs embedded in, or attached to glasses/hat bills/brims. - Follow up regarding your stance on privacy would be good hear. Thanks for your time and consideration. And apologies for not hitting you up on Twitter. I don't use that drug.
I'm sure other than facial recognition that that our stride, pace, and body mannerisms along with weight and structure are being incorporated into these systems. Privacy is about a fond memory.
If you have a cellphone, that is an infinite amount of pictures for them. Camera, microphone, location information, cross reference with home internet location, cross reference with family and friends' posts on social media... The metadata portrait is terrifyingly detailed and sneaky.
The person behind the camera knows EVERYTHING about us but we know NOTHING about them. If that doesn't make you uncomfortable, it will when you wake from the coma.
Cattle in a field with a yellow ear tag don't have anything to hide neither, but they all end up hanging upside down on a conveyor system skinned and headless at some point now don't they?
A vendor of facial recognition technologies explained why the bridge of the nose is so important to facial recognition. The software detects the tear ducts, and the space between the 2 tear ducts on the left and right of the nose is relatively unique, and a great place to start calculating measurements between other facial areas.. the more you know.
The one who are saying they have nothing to hide, should install open access cameras into bathroom, toilet and bedroom, cause why not? Privacy is human right, under declaration of human rights article 12: "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation." Face is doing this.
3:50 neural networks are dark magic, but in the case of faces, it is understandable. Handcrafted methods also use eyes and nose to detect faces, it is just an obvious way to create a filter for images. The problem with the whole approach is the cheapening of RGBD cameras (with depth info). They tend to care way less about the nose area, as depth map is 3d
I have been through the same facial recognition checkpoint at a casino, once without glasses or hat and the next with glasses and hat, it stated unrecognized the second time, I will keep changing up
Facial recognition is easy to defeat, just take down the entire power grid or dispose of the people utilizing the system. Sometimes it is most effective to just take a sledge hammer to the problem (Gordian Knot-style).
I've started leaving my phone at home more & more these days. The ATMs are spitting out clean new notes, and I've started using cash too since the damn google has profiled the bank cards and knows when i go out if i leave the phone at home. Australia.
Yeah, with dark and bright zone you only trick the Haar detector. Once you have the eyeball you can measure the distance between the eyes. If the Python code uses some advanced AAM / ASM methods, it may be pretty robust. You can only trick a well-developed AAM/ASM if you are systematically going against its mesh parameter detection. You need to "widen" the face (I would suggest a skin-colored wig), maybe alter the position of the nose opening (drawing black marks as the continuation of the nose opening under or above). Try and modify the position of your eye by adding some white makeup next to the outer side of your eye (mimic the eye, no black spots. Black spots would result in a misdetection and the algorithm would probably approximate misdetected positions using some neighbouring detected points). These methods usually look for "corners" and "edges" in color contrast.
The solution to automated, mass, surveillance is to make the data accessible by everybody. When the politicians realize we can find them committing misdeeds, they will realize the consequences outweigh the benefits.
You really think modern day politicians do shady deals in back alleys and are picked up by CCTV? Is that how naive you are? Or maybe they sit in their own office and don't give a crap about what happens outside?
@@andrei4389 those politicians would have to be far smarter than they let on to be conscious enough to even begin considering the implications of something as benign as whether they should or shouldn't be carrying their phone, or whether they should allow their garbage wifi based security systems watch them.
Just going to put this out as a software developer. Facial recognition is going to get vastly better in the near future. We can already map one person's face onto another. How hard do you think it will be to clean up an image of stuff like makeup? Not real hard. Probably the most assured way of defeating facial recognition is simply to make sure it can't see you to start with. Blinding the camera with high power UV (yep UV not IR) can be done rather easy. Just make sure you aren't looking at the light source when it's on. If it's powerful enough to blind the camera it's powerful enough to cause permanent eye damage. If you a real crazy way to defeat facial recognition. People pierce their faces all over these days. Imagine they use a micro LED in those piercings. To cops and so on it's jewelry. nose stud, cheeks, eye brow, lips and so on...
Anyone who claims they've nothing to hide so they don't care... OK..actually your use of locks, keys, passwords etc PROVE THAT YOU DO HAVE THINGS TO HIDE!... Let your ex read your email and texts, let your boss read them and give your login details to people who hate you... Let your family read everything while browsing all your photos you ever posted...
The nerd-like enthusiasm on show for technology which will inevitably lead to a permanent and all pervasive totalitarian nightmare State astounds me. The young boffins are busy creating a living hell on earth and it's all fun and games to them.
Great. A 12 year old deciding how our most intrusive and weaponized technology will be used. "if you aren't wanted you have nothing to fear" famous last words.
Wearing clothing with lots of faces on it also works. The system looks for faces, so let's give it some to look at. Then make your own face less recognizable as a face. The system expects a face to have 2 eyes, so wearing a cap with 2 eyes on them recognizes your cap as a face.
We burned up many infrared LEDs trying to test something like this, we are going to save it for another episode because it's a lot more complicated than it looks
@@retiallc Awesome! That was going to be my question. I was curious if it would be effective to attach a high-quality SMD infrared LED to the bridge of a pair of glasses. I'm looking forward to the episode.
Always ask your self this question: Who benefits from this ? Also ask your self who benefits from this statement "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" The answer is clear: Big Data benefits from this. That statement has been cleverly social engineered to get your data. The question today is: What are other people going to do with my personal and private data ? We can all read everyday that we the people are on the losing end about our personal and private data.
Your not a wanted person... untill they decide you or a group you identify with are not longer desirable or an escape goat... just ask Germans and russians that lived/living through it..
This was a very good video, I enjoyed it. Only hurts to know that there's no way these method will work for long and I think we all know what this kind of technology will mean in the hands of powerful governments...
I've had a lot of success defeating facial recognition by letting my nose hair grow to it's natural length. And, as an added bonus, my success with the ladies went dramatically up! who knew?
I've heard smiling confuses many facial recognition systems that rely on bones in the face (that's why they don't allow you to smile in passport photos)
Yeah the old "if ya got nothin to hide, what are you worried about"...completely overlooks the abuse of power angle. There's plenty of that to worry about.
Modern systems use facial recognition as well as movement detection. This in combination is almost impossible to deafeat without a star wars type cloak that covers the entire body lol

Technical 'solutions' without any legal framework to regulate them are too often used as tools for intimidation and oppression.
The HOW is often equaly important, as the WHAT.
be quite tricky to enforce that at the moment since people are wearing masks against covid and so on. "why you hiding your face?" "so i don't get covid init" "awrite ur nicked m8"
Exactly. This is probably the smartest and most aware comment about this video.
@@truedoom see the problem with that is that china has a working model developed specifically for people wearing masks to figure out who you are, even with one on so soon enough wearing a face mask wont help unless it covers your entire face
Tbh bullets and tear gas would be good to identify membersof said group and antifa 🤣
BLM protesters are statu quo dogs, they want to check and compile, everyone's data...
"If you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't be concerned." This is the favorite line of every authoritarian/totalitarian dictator ever.
A great welcome to the non blinking guy!
Maybe he is not real...
“ *Those who are capable of tyranny are capable of perjury to sustain it* .”
“... *only those who have the will and the power to shoot down their fellow men, are the real rulers in this, as in all other (so-called) civilized countries; for by no others will civilized men be robbed, or enslaved* .”
― Lysander Spooner, No Treason: The Constitution of No Authority
*"So these villains, who call themselves governments, well understand that their power rests primarily upon stolen money* . *With money they can hire soldiers, and with soldiers extort money* . *And, when their authority is denied, the first use they always make of money, is to hire soldiers to kill or subdue all who refuse them more money* ."
*-The payment of taxes, being compulsory, of course furnishes no evidence that any one voluntarily supports the Constitution* .
*It is true that the theory of our Constitution is, that all taxes are paid voluntarily; that our government is a mutual insurance company, voluntarily entered into by the people with each other; that each man makes a free and purely voluntary contract with all others who are parties to the Constitution, to pay so much money for so much protection, the same as he does with any other insurance company; and that he is just as free not to be protected, and not to pay any tax, as he is to pay a tax, and be protected* .
*But this theory of our government is wholly different from the practical fact* . *The fact is that the government, like a highwayman, says to a man: Your money, or your life* . *And many, if not most, taxes are paid under the compulsion of that threat* ;.
*The government does not, indeed, waylay a man in a lonely place, spring upon him from the road side, and, holding a pistol to his head, proceed to rifle his pockets* . *But the robbery is none the less a robbery on that account; and it is far more dastardly and shameful* .
*The highwayman takes solely upon himself the responsibility, danger, and crime of his own act* . *He does not pretend that he has any rightful claim to your money, or that he intends to use it for your own benefit* . *He does not pretend to be anything but a robber* . *He has not acquired impudence enough to profess to be merely a “protector,” and that he takes men’s money against their will, merely to enable him to “protect” those infatuated travellers, who feel perfectly able to protect themselves, or do not appreciate his peculiar system of protection* . *He is too sensible a man to make such professions as these* . *Furthermore, having taken your money, he leaves you, as you wish him to do* . *He does not persist in following you on the road, against your will; assuming to be your rightful “sovereign,” on account of the “protection” he affords you* . *He does not keep “protecting” you, by commanding you to bow down and serve him; by requiring you to do this, and forbidding you to do that; by robbing you of more money as often as he finds it for his interest or pleasure to do so; and by branding you as a rebel, a traitor, and an enemy to your country, and shooting you down without mercy, if you dispute his authority, or resist his demands* .
*They say to the person thus designated:*
*Go to A- B-, and say to him that “the government” has need of money to meet the expenses of protecting him and his property* .
Yeah. And all of that "foreign aid" is a great way to launder that money into their personal accounts.
"Nothing to hide, nothing to fear"
Oh god, oh man. Oh god, OH MAN. OH GOD, OH MAN. *OH* *GOD,* *OH* *MAN.*
I know that
No doubt!
First part of her statement, "If you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't be concerned" then she says, right afterwards, ... "you don't know what theyre doing with the data..." THAT'S WHY WE ARE CONCERNED!
Lemme fix that for you:"Because how much facial recognition is important to the future control of our society."
Your way makes it seem charming & quaint and only bad people want to hide. Like all surveillance/military advertising usually, it's always for the betterment of society.
Great episode, watching it with 3 non geeks now, ...theyre surprised at the low cost and possible uses both good & bad and all the countermeasures. Extra points for the juggalo experiment.
Advocating for the impending dystopian freedomless nightmare state are we?
But the rulers of this world are only doing what's best for us, as they always did.
I'm so glad you guys are doing this we need more guys out there to fight against this technocracy
This is How you end up up in the gulag.
Is that a thought crime you're comitting? The ministry of peace isn't going to like your attitude.
Jake Walklate it is now hate week
It is EXACTLY because I have nothing to hide that I deserve privacy!
now, how about a pair of glasses with a QR code on the bridge that links to a rick roll? 😂
That's great
Wonder if that could be done with privacy film 🤔
If anything redeems this video from itself, it will be your comment. Well played.
@xOr yup, the trick would be to fool it into running code to a rick roll. doesn't have to be QR, but you get the idea. would need inside info on algorithms, which in this case they have. can you buffer overflow, or....
@A.O. I love that idea 💀💀
and the system is overwhelmed by mass sightings of Guy Fawkes all of a sudden.
“If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear”
Easy to say for people that probably whitelisted their face from detection lol
If it's on a list, it's recognized. lol
''lol"
I’m glad there are so many aware people in the comments who value data privacy, especially the the most important data (since it’s not easily changed)-biometric. That woman at the beginning is nuts.
"If you don’t have anything to hide, you shouldn’t be concerned" -MOST RIDICULOUS AND COMMENTED STATEMENT FROM THIS VIDEO
This girl is clearly an example of someone with a lot of knowledge and no wisdom.
She was disagreeing with that statement
It's a shame that you either didn't watch the video or stopped at literally that sentence, because the arguments that she launched into against that statement with the next sentence were very interesting.
Ah, the old, "if you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't worry". THEY AREN'T TRYING TO FIND PEOPLE WITH 'THINGS TO HIDE'! They are trying to BE ABLE to find ANYONE! Beware
facial recognition....
Please:
- Follow up footage of IR LEDs embedded in, or attached to glasses/hat bills/brims.
THIS is why you should not post pictures/locations/info in general on social media. YOUR PICTURES are what they are using to train these systems.
But surely it can detect glasses wearers, so I doubt its the only measure,
@@engjds Correct, it's the starting point for the measurements.
Saying I've nothing to hide because I've done nothing wrong is equivalent to I don't use my hand so I don't mind having my hand removed.
I have been through the same facial recognition checkpoint at a casino, once without glasses or hat and the next with glasses and hat, it stated unrecognized the second time, I will keep changing up
Null Byte meets Hak5? NICE!!
Heck yes we did
NULL BYTE!!!! AHH!!! I follow way too many tech channels!!!
Paraphrase Jurassic Park, ‘just because you Can do something doesn’t mean you Should do that thing.’
Australia.
I also do these things especially using cash frequently
Try a Blackout cellphone pouch which blocks RFI and will not allow you to be tracked.
You got the null byte guy on your channel?
They sure did
Occupy the web the real master
Would painting more eyes on the face work?
Two mouths (one painted)?
A cousin it style wig to cover much of the face?
Time to go emo again.
Sounds FN lovely. People have no clue where this is all going. Good luck with all that.
As an unemployed super villain. "I look forward to trying this out."
People call me crazy 🤣 when I read the terms and conditions/privacy policy. This is why 😭😭😤
Also, even after coronavirus, I'm wearing masks in public still. It's healthier for me and society, and it defeats facial recognition
If facial recognition relies on blinking frequency, this guy is in the safe for sure :-)
Time to invest in a pack of Dollar Tree staches.
Get the glasses with the funny 👃
just wear a mask everywhere... oh wait
And also N-95 mask you know coronavirus season
If THEY have nothing to hide Why not allowed , free , total & transparent access to all classified documents
I miss Cyber Weapons Lab.
Null has his own site now. :)
RouteBGP link?
We miss you too, but we're still here
you misspelled skiddy playground
Anyone who claims they've nothing to hide so they don't care... OK..actually your use of locks, keys, passwords etc PROVE THAT YOU DO HAVE THINGS TO HIDE!... Let your ex read your email and texts, let your boss read them and give your login details to people who hate you... Let your family read everything while browsing all your photos you ever posted...
i was arrested because of fecal recognition. it all stinks to me.
😆😆😆😆
The nerd-like enthusiasm on show for technology which will inevitably lead to a permanent and all pervasive totalitarian nightmare State astounds me. The young boffins are busy creating a living hell on earth and it's all fun and games to them.
You know facial recognition is being used for "nefarious" reasons when both Mark Zuckerberg and Bill gates purposely block their web cameras
Great. A 12 year old deciding how our most intrusive and weaponized technology will be used. "if you aren't wanted you have nothing to fear" famous last words.
20 yrs ago..AEGEAS drone could tell if your shoelaces were untied. Literally track 2.3 M people in real time
.let that sink in
WAS IT WEAPONIZED BACK THEN OR JUST TRACKING ?
Wearing clothing with lots of faces on it also works.
The system looks for faces, so let's give it some to look at.
Then make your own face less recognizable as a face.
The system expects a face to have 2 eyes, so wearing a cap with 2 eyes on them recognizes your cap as a face.
Could you also use ultraviolet paint which would be less detectable to anybody looking at you but picked up by cameras?
We burned up many infrared LEDs trying to test something like this, we are going to save it for another episode because it's a lot more complicated than it looks
@@retiallc Another thought is painting extra eyes on the skin akin to Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film
I was at Panera restaurant which I used restroom ,the next day I was sent email for food. Wow, it’s being used
I think that's wonderful that we have technology that can tell a difference between male and female when the actual person doesn't even know themself
Your not a wanted person... untill they decide you or a group you identify with are not longer desirable or an escape goat... just ask Germans and russians that lived/living through it..
"If you don’t have anything to hide, you shouldn’t be concerned”
And now show your passport to the guard on the SS checkpoint.
This was a very good video, I enjoyed it. Only hurts to know that there's no way these method will work for long and I think we all know what this kind of technology will mean in the hands of powerful governments...
I've had a lot of success defeating facial recognition by letting my nose hair grow to it's natural length. And, as an added bonus, my success with the ladies went dramatically up! who knew?
Cant believe you didnt get a single like in two years!.
“China is an extreme case.”
For now
Remember when Facebook gathered facial recognition data without people's knowledge?
for others interested in the Python Libraries: opencv-python & face_recognition
Thanks
A mask, big dark glasses and a big beanie works really well.
I'd love to see how the masks we all now wear affect facial rec
We are right in the beginning of a combination of 1984, Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World.
Also must mention Animal Farm.
I've heard smiling confuses many facial recognition systems that rely on bones in the face (that's why they don't allow you to smile in passport photos)
Does that mean the systems can't recognize you when you're smiling while walking the streets?
Yeah the old "if ya got nothin to hide, what are you worried about"...completely overlooks the abuse of power angle. There's plenty of that to worry about.
Hey it would’ve been great to see the light attach to the glasses demo
Are there any plastic films that are transparent to visable light, but reflective to infrared? Maybe small dots on the face would confuse the system.
OK this threw me off for a second, nice collab tho!
Thanks!
Im no criminal but it matters to me because I don't know if I'll be considered a criminal in the future for not taking this Covid vaccine.
Modern systems use facial recognition as well as movement detection. This in combination is almost impossible to deafeat without a star wars type cloak that covers the entire body lol
Met a Broward County cop down in Sosua back in 2013 who told me they were already using facial recognition in their patrol cars.
"If you don’t have anything to hide, you shouldn’t be concerned”. Stopped watching at that point
She then explained why that philosophy was bad.
Hearing someone say they have nothing to hide is always amusing to me. Everybody has something to hide.
Juggalo's can beat facial recognition
But they lose almost everywhere else.
China IS NOT an extreme case, there are more CCTV cameras per head in the UK than in China.
Okay, my facial recognition says that’s Kody....
Looks like it's working!
Don't forget your mobile phone.
Defeating facial recognition is useless if you have you're phone with you.
I like the colab!
We did too!
In the days of pandemic, everyone is defeating facial recognition. Just wear your mask.
“ neural networks are black magic, nobody knows what’s going on in there” ........wtf....
