It has meant so much to me to have all of you here for these streams! If you had a favourite moment or location so far, I would love to hear it. But for now, I just want to express my gratitude to you all for making this possible And I will see you again… Real Soon
You are most welcome and very deserving!! I am glad I was able to watch while making my lunch and working on some things at home. The views I saw were stunning. And it was good to know about the bears! Do not take honey into the woods. They will smell it! And it’s good to be safe and know what’s ok and not ok to take in certain areas!
Thank you for the video Norm. I'll be in that area next month. What was the time that you started out? plan to see some locations really early in the morning. but starting out from Takayama with car and arrive in Narai Juku early seems extreme maybe ^^
What can I add that the other people people in the comments are saying about this place? Just thank you, Norm, for sharing this time with us. We have a set amount of time in our life, and we can't get any more, no matter how hard we try. So, thank you for wanting to share these moments in time with all of us.
The biggest question on my mind is how did you convince almost everyone in the town to stay away or inside until the end of your stream. That's very impressive. All joking aside - this stream was just so ... serene. It felt like the small town we all (?) yearn to have grown up in and lived in. I got the sense that everyone there knows everyone else just because of how comfortable it all feels. Not having ever visited, but I think this town gives the sense of the Kyoto we all wish we could visit - if that makes any sense at all?
Hi .. I’m Catherine. Just like to say Iove all your adventures they are very therapeutic. Sometimes I comment live but generally just watch and like of course.
Such a peaceful, beautiful walk. I loved all the water in the area, all the hidden gems. My favorite stop was the shrine. I think I could sit there all day. Thank you again for another gorgeous adventure!
So many favorite moments that it's hard to choose just one. Thinking you're lucky the stairs in the first adventure at the vertical mountain shrine weren't an absolute waterfall. Low connection in Wakayama, but the color of the water, sunset, and the beach. Ochiai, just pure Shikoku atmosphere - the water, lush greenery, and joy in your reacquaintance with Ayanosan. Another rainy waterways and backstreets journey and the absolute shock on your face when the gimbal turned in Kanayama. Then finishing out 11 days of nonstop adventure with the astonishingly empty and beautiful Narai-juku. Love that tranquility of early morning. I'd recommend getting a gohei mochi, but I think the shops don't open until late morning. 🙃Safe trip back to Tokyo and see you next week. 💜✌🐦
And expanding on whether Kyoto is worth it when you have beautiful places like Narai-juku to visit: Yes, I still feel Kyoto is worth it, though I now also highly recommend Shikoku and Kyushu. Kyoto breathes with history and beauty. As I commented in chat, I visit the outskirts more often these days, hunting new and unique vistas. I visit the more heavily visited tourist places (read Fushimi Inari) very early or late. NGL I was irritated with how crowded it was mid-morning in Spring 2023. Each city, village, or backcountry inaka hamlet has its own feel. Its own vibe. Whether I've visited by train or car, rain or shine, I've always found something amazing, and never left disappointed. I've spoken with the locals, usually in a mix of English and Japanese - multiple exchanges with shop owners, the amazing staff at NJA, and a nice couple who stopped to help read a daikichi fortune at Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. I've been given mikan and kaki by the neighbor Ojisan and an accommodation's owner. I've stretched my boundaries by wandering into the abandoned hotel on Sakurajima and Nikenya. These interactions and locales add pins to my maps, and keep me coming back to Japan, ever seeking new experiences and places to roam. JAPAN is worth it. 💜✌🐦
Loved this video, it's wonderful to see towns like this with such beautiful traditional architecture being preserved. Hopefully a positive side affect of increased tourism will be to keep places like this alive as other rural towns die away. My solo trip in Japan was amazing and I can't wait to come back next year. Thanks for a great adventure!
Great location for a final stream, and such a fine morning for a walk. I have enjoyed these walks very much, and added many pins for potential future trips (Nakasendo trail hike is high on the list!). I'll catch you again for your summer camping this year, I hope. Thanks, Norm!
Awesome livestream as always Norm. These livestreams have such a treat I’ve always been interested in all things about Japanese culture and your livestreams I get to see the path less traveled in Japan. Thanks for always sharing your adventures with us keep up the great work Norm.
Wow, what a stunning place to visit for the finale! I loved all the swallows and the beautiful forest path. Truly Norm, let me say thank you for the last eleven days again. You honestly gave me something to look forward to every day and I collected so, so many inspiring screenshots. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the journeys - and for the relaxing rain vibes, ocean views, stair ratings and umbrella adventures. So excited for the many videos you managed to record during your travels!
Love the architecture here. Really pretty carpentry on display, plus can't go wrong with swallows flying around being aerial acrobats. I think out of the whole experience, the abandoned school was probably my favorite. Something about structures left to the vagaries of time and the elements sparks my interest. Beyond that though, how could you not pick Ochiai village as the favorite? Those views! Truly breathtaking. Thank you so much for taking us along on this wonderful adventure Norm, it was a blast. Looking forward to next time!
Was able to catch an hour and 20 minutes of this while working today...definitely helps me get through (and now only 49 minutes left in my work day :) ). Thanks for the adventure, Norm! Now to catch up on what I haven't been able to watch yet...
This was the first stream I was able to catch live. Usually would be at the gym but my cat came to snuggle in bed and I just couldn't get up haha. Am usually a silent watcher and rarely comment but just wanted to say thank you so much for these streams. Was supposed to travel to Japan for my honeymoon in 2021 but the world situation prevented it. Now have a mortgage to pay instead 😅 These streams help me to experience what I missed. Will definitely get to Japan one day in the future but for now keep doing what you're doing and I will keep watching ❤ I look forward to the rest of the videos from this trip.
Thank you Norm for the 1000000 secs. The one thing that many of these old beautiful streets have in common, is that they put all the ugly overhead power and phone lines underground. It makes such a difference.
Thank you Norm from the bottom of my heart ❤️ I have enjoyed every second and millisecond of this adventure with you. Hugs across the ocean love from Australia 🦘❤
Hi norm thank you so much for these beautiful walks I've thoughtly enjoyed them all. much appreciated. and I can't wait to see what you have in-store next.luv from the uk 👍❤️❤️
Hi Norm! Thanks for all the videos. I’ve watched many, but have never commented. You helped inspire my families first trip to Japan last year. We loved it so much that we are coming back again in the fall! My favorite video from this trip was the abandoned school in Wakayama.
Wasn't able to catch the streams live, but I've enjoyed them all so much! I've had them on during times at work and while I do chores at home and it's been so relaxing to get to "walk" through Japan through you while I get things done. It's helped me get through some stressful days and I thank you for what you do, Norm!
Here to leave my obligatory comment and say how beautiful this walk was today. I’ll have to watch it again as I was busy today but thank you for this! I will be sure to enjoy all the ones I need ti catch up on as well. And I might just pick one or two bits to show my family and see if those are places they’d like to visit someday.
Wow, what a fantastic place to finish your journey. I visited Narai as part of my trip last year, and I was awed by how beautiful the town was. Seeing it through your lens, I was again struck by is beauty. Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane, and I look forward to your next video!
Norm, thank you so so much for this series (and for all your work). These streams have helped me get through the past couple of weeks. I can't wait to be there, myself! Hopefully that will be a day very soon.
Hello Norm, lurking here since covid. But your thrift store videos got me into your channel. And the long Japanese countryside walks kept me subscribed. Your positive stories of Japan and it's people are always amazing. As an artist my sketchbooks are filled With bamboo forests and abandoned shrines. Keep up the good talks and great videos!
Doing my due diligence and commenting to push!! I'm binging all these walks!!! From work I couldn't catch it live but my wife and I are pushing out much love!! ROAD TO 100K
Thank you for sharing your day in Narai Juku. It brought back some wonderful memories from 2017 when my family and I stayed in a minshuku there. I still remember so fondly one of the shops there in the Main Street where an elderly woman was selling her husband’s artwork. He had sadly passed away a few years earlier but she was keeping their family business going. I bought two pictures from her which I had framed and are hanging here in my house in Australia. Thank you again for this lovely video.
I can't wait to walk Nakasendo (most of) from Narai-Juku to Magome-Juku in late august next year. Ever since hearing about Nakasendo and Kiso valley, I've been enchanted by the area.
Thanks to your video in 2021, I hiked a part of the Nakasendo with my mum in autumn last year. When we arrived in Narai juku, it just started snowing ❄️ Such a magical sight! One of my best memories. Thanks for inspiring me to go there and for bringing me back through this stream 😁
Hi, i missed the last two live due to being out and about with mom. She walked the kika 10km city today to raise funds for kid cancer. We walked besides those 10km in two cities. We had an hotel for yesterday evening. I just came home and started watching this one . 😊
So glad to have caught this live and be a part of the journey! Desperately trying to figure out how to get to Narai-Juku while in the Tokyo or Kyoto leg of my upcoming trip. Love all the vids and excited for the next adventure!
I work a very boring desk job and your streams are like little windows of adventure to peek into to help me with get through my day. Thank you so much. God i hate my job. Lmaooo.
Missed watching this live because of work :'( Thank you Norm for sharing another beautiful walk! Looking forward to seeing the other videos you shot during this adventure!
First of all: thank you so much for this adventure, all the streams and videos! Has been so much fun looking forward to what you'd be sharing with us every day. Hope you got home safe, stay healthy and see you again o/
Sadly could not catch it live. This town (aswell as others on the Nakasendo trail) is absolutely Stunning definetly on my list of places to visit if i ever make it to Japan. So beautiful and serene, thanks for making this Stream aswell as your older Video on the Nakasendo trail. The enitre 1 million seconds journey was really delightful thank you for taking us with you.
This was such a great idea Norm! Still my #1 J-Vlogger. Best spots, best vibes. Wish I could have watched more live releases, but I'll for sure be playing catch up this weekend
Have been following along on the live streams but missed this one and it has been so fascinating and beautifully tranquil. Can’t wait to see more adventures with the insane amount of footage you captured on this trip. Appreciate all your hard work and sharing these amazing locations with us ❤
Thank you so much for an epic adventure, where do i begin to say what i loved. Every place had just the right amount of magic in it. Shrines, raincutter, dodgy stairs, frogs and trains. I enjoyed every bit of these videos and enjoyed catching most of them live. I am so excited to be going back to Japan in October after 6 long years away. I hope i dont come across as some of those loud Aussies as my baby has learnt and enjoys screaming 😭. You have opened my eyes to more hidden gems that i cant wait to explore. Like always keep up the good work! Enjoy your no camera's thrift shopping. Cat
Hi Norm, from NS Canada. Congrats on your 1 million second journey. I'm planning my 1st trip to Japan this fall. Hope I can see even a small amount of scenery like you've been sharing. Awesome videos, keep that camera rolling... 😀
Missed the livestream as I was still at work but caught the last few minutes. Now watching the replay while I have some supper. Congrats on the 1M subs and for this trip to celebrate. Cheers!
Norm! I discovered your channel recently and I've been going through many of your videos in the last month. I would love to go to Japan sometime soon, but unfortunately it is not in the cards for me just yet. I wanted to say THANK YOU so much for all your amazing content and live streams! Your charisma, passion and authenticity make me so happy, and through your videos I'm really able to feel like I'm actually in Japan every day. This brings me SO much joy! Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to go on more adventures with you :)
Hi Norm! I'm bummed I missed the live! Honestly 2 hours wasn't enough to explore that gorgeous town! I look forward to the follow up Videos. Much love from Idaho!
Thanks for the stream! Compared to the first day, it's nice that the weather was better for the last one :) I can't decide on just one moment, so I'll say the whole thing was my favourite lol (And as a Canadian, I can confirm a loonie is 1 dollar and a toonie is 2 dollars)
Wow, what a two-fer. First the town walk followed by the bear walk. I'm sorry that I couldn't catch this one live, but now that I've finally gotten to it, maybe you'll see this comment in one of the airports on your way over. Looking forward to saying "Welcome to Raleigh" in a couple of days, Norm! Have a good trip!
couldn't catch it live :/ Anyway, thanks once again for this amazing journey, loved the first time and loved this one as well can't wait for the 5 hours video haha
1 Million Seconds ...This last stream had a bit of everything, from long winding roads, a lovely sunrise, good old stair rating and a chill walk/ run in the woods and who can forget the swallows... also story time with Norm is always fun...These 11 Days have been an absolute pleasure to watch/join in and share the experience with you...Here's to a million more adventures...Take care and stay safe...What a treat that was..
Love your videos! You asked people whether they think it is worth going to Kyoto. I think it is - such a wide variety of things to see. Mountain temples, people enjoying every day life along the Kamo river, the creative little shops, the sheer variety of everything. Walking with no particular destination along "unfashionable" allyways.. But I agree - the mountains/countryside is the best! I'm in my mid 60''s and for 6 years (pandemic excluded) have been visiting Japan (solo) every 6 months for a few weeks at a time. I don't drive, but I've become more adventurous with regional trains and buses and google maps directions are fabulous! (ps I do give Tokyo & Osaka a miss)
I hope you realise Norm that if you ever end straight away with no secret ending you are going to have us phoning emergency services to come help you :D
about bad behaviors of tourists in Japan. I've witnessed it myself back in 2016 at Yoshino yama area. One dude was grabbing and "shaking" a sakura tree branch, the branch actually broke and he just left it on the ground, after taking photos. He wanted the falling sakura petals I guess. It's crazy. Me and friends gave him a dirty look but he was happily smiling at us like it's dang fun~. So annoying. Other polite and respectful tourists will be the local's victims, you know. The locals are so done with tourists, they just decide to be rude to ALL tourists. gee.
Because you talk about coffee, I'd like to recommend two channels. Morgan Drinks Coffee and James Hoffman are both championship baristas who talk about how to make great coffee. Both are worth checking out IMO.
I'm never going to be able to pick a spot I loved the most through what we saw of Narai Juku, so I'm just going to go ahead and say I absolutely adore the colour of that lil' construction digger :D
It has meant so much to me to have all of you here for these streams!
If you had a favourite moment or location so far, I would love to hear it.
But for now, I just want to express my gratitude to you all for making this possible And I will see you again… Real Soon
What a way to end this adventure! Thank you for bringing us along for the ride as always, Norm!

My solo trip in Japan was amazing and I can't wait to come back next year. Thanks for a great adventure!
Watch it live and keep rewatching it about 4 times still like a healing trip. I wish I could take this trip either way family of 2 kids
17:37 that must be the most beautiful view i have ever seen of Japan! The Nakasendo trail is still my top 1 destination yet!
Great location for a final stream, and such a fine morning for a walk. I have enjoyed these walks very much, and added many pins for potential future trips (Nakasendo trail hike is high on the list!). I'll catch you again for your summer camping this year, I hope. Thanks, Norm!

What a journey! Loved every moment!🛣️🌄
Wow! What an opening shot 😍
The whole town is so stunning and you've captured it well.
Also, I think the charming guy was meant to be you!
You just give the most amazing vibes Norm … big fan here.
Thanks for the lovely walks! Loved this adventure! 😊
I love the little path in the woods/mountain above/alongside the road
It’s been great Norm. Thanks for taking us along.

What an amazing town. I must go one day and explore all that regicon! Thank you for sharing all this beautiful views.
Was able to catch an hour and 20 minutes of this while working today...definitely helps me get through (and now only 49 minutes left in my work day :) ). Thanks for the adventure, Norm! Now to catch up on what I haven't been able to watch yet...
What a great finale of that week. I'm so glad I accidentally came across your 1,000,000 Seconds in Japan adventure.
Man I can’t say just how much I enjoyed the adventures and walks , thank you so much for your effort ❤
Thank you Norm from the bottom of my heart ❤️ I have enjoyed every second and millisecond of this adventure with you. Hugs across the ocean love from Australia 🦘❤

Dream Location
I was across the border in BC without data when you streamed this one, thanks for the VOD!

Amazing!!! I absolutely love landscapes like this, and you are certainly immersed within. Great videos Brother!
This is the real deal. I don't see one tourist. Kudos to you for discovering the real Japan.
Beautiful morning beautiful town a very calming Livestream unlike that nerve wrecking rainy morning Livestream 😁 definitely loving this one.
I can't wait to walk Nakasendo (most of) from Narai-Juku to Magome-Juku in late august next year. Ever since hearing about Nakasendo and Kiso valley, I've been enchanted by the area.
(I just double checked the numbers, we're walking roughly 56km of it (couple skips for trains))

Right, now to plan what I need to bring to London to see you and half of Kiki.
Beautiful the area! Thank you for telling us about your experience with bad manners on the trip.
Sadly could not catch it live. This town (aswell as others on the Nakasendo trail) is absolutely Stunning definetly on my list of places to visit if i ever make it to Japan.
So beautiful and serene, thanks for making this Stream aswell as your older Video on the Nakasendo trail.

Fabulous job on the 'oh no must reconnect the stream' run. Definitely speeder no Endor vibe 🤣
Thanks for the stream!

I'm sorry that I couldn't catch this one live, but now that I've finally gotten to it, maybe you'll see this comment in one of the airports on your way over. Looking forward to saying "Welcome to Raleigh" in a couple of days, Norm! Have a good trip!
See you soon!
American here, from the upper Midwest and the 'Canadian speech' made perfect sense to me.

Masters of the Zhang Zhung Nyengyud my favorite book right now
That Tim Hortons tirade sounded like an alien language.

Do you just carry phone/camera or are you using a selfie stick??? ❤ it’s lovely
Woops - forgot to mention - Abandoned village my favourite in million minutes series
Great stuff as always Norm, but can you please stop adding places to my ever growing wishlist!
Bears can run at 60km/h, scary stuff 😱
Hello Norm. How do you not eat your Sakuma drops? I could not help myself when I bought some when they were being discounted.
i bet those are chinese😂
Really magical adventure! Thank you, Norm ^_^ One Love
I'm never going to be able to pick a spot I loved the most through what we saw of Narai Juku, so I'm just going to go ahead and say I absolutely adore the colour of that lil' construction digger :D
