Thanks for sharing this morning walk with us ... which I watched just before going to bed! The perfect wind down. As you can tell, doing some serious catching up here, but enjoying every minute!! 😊
There is a bus stop close to where Norm finishes his trek. You can get off the bus there, walk the 500m of this Daimon-zaka part of the Kumano Kodo as a stepping stone to your exploration of Nachi Falls and its temple area. Alternatively, there is another stop close to where Norm disposes of his hiking pole if you are feeling less energetic. Great video! 😊
That tree storage point is so great and I totally agree with the Winnie the Pooh vibes of it. Exploring more of Wakayama is on my next Japan trip. I've really only been to Koya-san and the amount of streams you've done from Wakayama for the 1,000,000,000 seconds trip just makes me want to go and explore more. "Life is the sum of its side quests" needs to be on ALL the things ❤🔥 "These bumble bees are chubby out here. Big fluffy bois" also needs to be on all the things.
The funny moment when hear the word for bamboo shoot and your brain goes "..wait..like..bamboo + child = bamboo shoot??" Sometimes I love how languages work :'D Gorgeous video as usual, very much enjoyed this!
I'm so glad you share these things with us, and have a broad perspective--to travel and visit other countries, I need a full-time job to afford it...but in order to have the time to explore and hike the way I want to, I'd need to not be working. 2 weeks is not long enough to enjoy a place, but most jobs won't let you leave for months at a time. Until I can get there, I will live vicariously through your videos, and I cannot thank you enough for sharing them.
Thanks for allowing us along on your hikes. As you were discussing, im one of those people who bcuz if neck and back issues cant do this anymore. But your hikes remind me of my hikes in Japan. For any one interested, my favorite hike was 92 ir 93 near Osaka. I took a skyride over a gorge to a hiking trail with tons of people. Not a surprise in Japan. So I kept walking for a few hours to finally find the waterfall and mountain center. Of course with vending machines 😊 It was packed with people but there was a parh leading on but no one was taking it, instead returning back rhe wat we came. So of course i took it. Being alone in Japan is sometimes something very special. I kept walking realizing maybe it was too late to return and get skycar. This was ling before Internet. Lol Well i finally came upon a well paved road and i heard thunder. Being a Floridian, i knew it was tine to get back somehow. So down the road towards the town, hopefully, i carried on. Within 10 minutes a VW bus drove by and stolped as i was now hitchhiking 😮. About 5 Jalanese college aged students stopped and took me to rhe station. I spoke very good Japanese at the time but i also liked to speak English with Japanese people who wanted to. It was an amazing day and everything that us great about Japan.
Over 20 years ago, long before I visited Japan myself, I read the blog of an English language teacher in the JET program who was placed in Wakayama. He spoke very highly of Wakayama and how fortunate he felt to be placed there, and how he preferred it to Tokyo or a big city. Watching your footage, I can finally understand exactly what he meant! Wakayama will definitely be in my itinerary the next time I'm in Japan (along with Nagano, and the 'Mononoke Forest'). 🌲💚
A chorus of frogs and a sage bit of advice, 'Life is the sum of its Side Quests' was such a perfect moment that encapsulates this whole channel I feel. Thanks for taking us along on this morning mountain hike. I'm with you on this time of day being perfect for hikes. Sunlight lancing through trees in the early morning is just wonderful. Not to mention it tends to be cooler, but that's just me that melts at anything approaching 24C. As always, thank you!
Thank you for this beautiful morning walk! I always love when there’s tendrils of other trails to explore, it’s like a gift that keeps giving. The bamboo grove was my favorite part. I love how the light was filtering through, washing everything in that lovely pale green hue.
Falling down on a trip I feel is a canadian thing. Every trip, my father always trips or falls, and it is such a doozy. I love that you are keeping that tradition alive. 😂😂😂
Some of the bird sounds are soo typical to the Japanese climate and island that they become staples of exploring such an amazing wilderness. What I loved the most or at least one of the tops was all the iconic sounds, from nature to urban - Japanese people really know the importance of just enjoying what is around you, hence keeping low voices or quiet on the streets, trains, etc.
Awesome video as always Norm. I enjoy watching your videos with these amazing walks it really fires me up to want to come to Japan and experience theses places even more. Thank for letting us come along with you on your adventures.
Walked the Kumano Kodo back in November of 2019, definitely one of the best experiences during my three weeks in Japan. This brings back good memories.
@TokyoLensExplore Please answer a long standing question for me. My Wife and I have watched every one of your videos on all 3 of your channels and there is one constant thing that we just can't figure out. When you are on a walk and you pass by someone, you always say a greeting to them. What is it you are saying? We are trying to learn Japanese but our old and slow American ears just can't pick up on what it is. Thank you for taking us along with you on your adventures. Your camerawork is absolutely gorgeous and has made us decide that we will be visiting there ourselves some day to have our own grand adventures!
my parents wanted to do this, but my dads knees can't handle the stairs in his 70s anymore. They are happy to watch your video though and get to see it that way. I put on the 4k for them :)
Norm, you have amazing skill to shoot a vlog in one shot that doesn't even need editing to stand as a video on RUclips. Thanks for sharing these beautiful views with us this morning.
preparatory walks before leaving home on the list, hiking boots ✅, fingers crossed for nice shoulder season weather. Gonna have a lot of fun when finally get out there. Going to be a lot of thank you so much for the tranquil and beautiful walks too. 💜✌🐦 PS making note to keep the web clearing sticks handy
I think that everyone - if you have the time and money - should include something like this when travelling abroad. Don't just stay in the big cities, but head out and just start walking or cycling in a nice place.
This has been such a beautifully-shot video and an absolute joy to watch. Thank you for taking us with you, Norm. I used to love early morning walks when I still lived with my parents. I occasionally get bouts of insomnia, so I'd get up and dressed and go for a walk to the woods and farmer's fields near where my parents lived. If I got there early enough, just after dawn had broken, I could sit and watch the wild rabbits going about their bunny business before going back to their warren. I still remember this time of my life very fondly.
Norm, your videos and streams always bring me some much needed peace, I’m in North Carolina and hope to visit Japan one day, but until that day comes your videos definitely have quenched my thirst for hidden shrines and mountain trails. Thank you for all that you do!
Catching up on these premieres. Nice looking trail. I like the walking stick collection. Saves having to bring one or forage for branches (although that is a hobby of mine). Glad you had good weather on this one, in the UK right now its raining....again.
Man, something I've come to love about Japan is how the towns and suburbs, outside of Tokyo, don't just cut away and clean off all the vegetation. The moss on all the walkways and all the plant life everywhere. We have some of that in Louisiana but it's not nearly as aesthetically pleasing. At least I can relate to the humidity during the summertime.
Hi Greetings from Singapore! I stumbled upon you/your videos as I researched for my upcoming trip to do this trail. Your (morning) videos are truly inspiring and will certainly await more sharing from you 🙏🏼
Wow! Wonderful trail with the fantastical doored tree, frogs, bamboo grove, and well maintained path. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure with you and your walking stick. Nice unknown trail thru the bamboo. Wonderful video content and commentary.
Always look forward to your beautiful walks. You always go to the most amazing places. I sometimes put these types of your videos on and get on my trendmill. It's like I'm walking there with you. And I love the birds in the background. (Except for that one bird)😂

Norm you brought up people getting to old to walk these trails, I am not to old but my back prevents me from walking to far without pain. I got pretty bad back. And I also wonder who takes cares of these trails.
if it follows a road might be the original mountain path.. then again it could lead to a forgotten shrine or abandoned hotspring.. or it is just another disused footpath between abandoned villages/schools etc.. wonder what it was.
This section of the Kumano Kodo really was a special treat!! NEW PREMIERE TOMORROW TOO!!
Followed by a LIVE hangout on the @TokyoLensShorts channel

Sunny video 🌞

The ambient sound is a big part of these videos.

Well, Norm-San was saying "good morning" in Japanese to fellow hikers as they walked past each other... 😊
Yes!
But what is the Japanese expression? His voice drops and he draws out the final sounds 😀
Exactly this!
I figured it was something like good morning but wanted clarification on it and possibly how it's sounded out.

Hi!
if I were in this forest I would had rapidly lost my weight while hiking everyday
Caged tires!!!
Hoping to knock out 2 fairly small sections of the Kumano Kodo next time I'm in Japan. I suppose I will someday have to do the full hike.

At this early time it's often just 'good morning' - 'ohaiyoo gozaimasu'. A little bit cheering - 'ganbate (o) kudasai'
