My girlfriends grandfather had been a set musician on the blues circuit in L.A. in the 30s and 40s and he told me a lot of stories over a cup of wine as he knew that I was a bluesman too. Then one day in I think 1998 he called me up and asked if I could sit in with him and an old friend. You guessed it, when my guitar (Ebony) and I walked in there was John Lee sitting there with a Cheshire cat grin! You could also knocked me off a dog with a Fender! Sorry, Slavic humor. We had a hell of a time and I walked away with the memory of one of the best days of my life!
What a story to have - to tell. Thanks for sharing.

John Lee's foot against wood is like a symphony to me. Thank you sir, RIP.
John Lee's foot sounds better than 90% of the garbage coming out now

Better tempo than most drummers

I never thought I would see Van Morrison sitting on boat dock with John Lee Hooker. But, damn. There he is.

Two different Generations of the blues and blue grass. Van was stoked to be on that box playing his harmonica
Right!? I was shocked when I found out Thats Van Morrison
Beautiful. Where it all began.
What year was this ?
I am so in love with being able to say that Mississippi has produced great musicians that the world has had the privilege of experiencing. I love my home state. ❤ RIP Brother John Lee, you left us wonderful gifts.
Yes, absolutely extraordinary music. Rave on John and Van!
That’s the only good thing Mississippi has ever produced….. their only other claims are for obscene corruption and racism.
Native Mississippian here and damn proud to be from the state that is the Birthplace of Blues! 🎸 🎼 ❤️
Yes ma’am. If you made a list of the most impactful & iconic Blues artists of all time, many more would have Mississippi roots than not.
It's too many great folks to list, and we are still producing them!
I remember my son came home from elementary school one day and asked me why he was the only kid in his class who knew who John Lee Hooker was and I simply responded Their parents must not love them as much as I love you!
lol! brilliant!
😂👍
Best answer ever!
👍
Awesome.
John Lee Hooker has always been one of my favorites. Van Morrison is simply great. One guitar, a harmonica, 2 guys stopping on the dock and 2 great vocalists make a nice sound don't they?
Nice blues song featuring John Lee Hooker and Van Morrison. It's a classic.
Love seeing this white dude from Northern Ireland and the great blues man John Hooker. Blues transcends race, geography, religion and allows so many interpretations.
And yet, you call Van Morrison a white dude. As if white dudes can't play the Blues.... So black dudes can't play uhm.. classical? Or country? It ends if it is not important. Go and and watch the Blues Brothers again, for punishment🙂
Amen from Australia.
Fo sho
The "White Dude"is Van the Man Morrison and equally as Great .....Just felt I had to take note 😮Trandsend Like 😊😮❤ The Blues Men !!!!!
Van grew up in dire poverty in Belfast so i dont know why you mention Race.
You know what I love about this? The constant drone of the rhythm guitar. No virtuoso playing just a constant beat. Van’s playing is sweet too but I could listen to that rhythm all night.
That heel is better than any metronome
😂 no se escucha la guitarra
Sólo la armónica y el golpeteo.
That incredible rhythm went down to my soul and got me up outta my warm comfy bed and on my feet dancing! That man has seen some stuff!
Some of John Lee Hookers guitar work is underrated in his younger years. It's a diferent sound, country with a diferent tunning, sounds alot like West African instruments. He is not virtuoso for sure, but he was the real deal. When he sang about having no shoes or no food on his table, you know it was for real. He only cared about the way he sounded, and he sounded good.
Sat at the bar wth mr Hooker !!!! My wife kissed his leather cheek!!!!! One of happiest nights of all !!!!!
This is awesome.. John Lee Hooker and Van Morrison are two of the best proponents of the blues. The two of them playing together is blues magic.
Hearing these two greats together....I finally understood just how "The Blues" was a major component of Van Morrison's vocal style.
🎶 Frickin 🔥🔥🔥🔥💨💨💨🎶
Music as it should be. No race, no troubles. Love both musicians !!! And there both GREAT together !!!!
Blues at its purest Simply fantastic John Lee Hooker was a legend

I got to carry john Lee hocker guitar to his dressings room in the 70s he autographed my album good times❤😂

How awesome
Don't you mean "John Lee Hooker"???
These 2 fabulous artists had a true friendship and mutual respect for each other. As a duo they won 2 Grammy's. Great collaboration, egos checked, love shining forth.

That "Thank you, Van, thank you very much". An icon!!
When Van starts singing through the harp john lee looks at him cos he knows he's possessed by the blues
Yep . . . .definite connection there . . . .:)
Yeah... I saw that too.
Sharing the Spirit of the groove.
Van was humbled almost. But kept blowing. Kept sucking. Feeling it out. Never giving in. Making it howl. And John aknowledged Van did something real.
The magic.
And Johnny was asking him to do that. "Thank you Van." at the end. Awesome stuff.
@@marcbutler8896Saw that too.
this was one of Vans' first big songs too
For my uncle Gary Morgan 💙 He taught me what good music was.
The simplicity of this is what makes it so good!
This was like finding a envelope full of money! ♥️
❤
Two legends , one iconic song , Magic .
Van is like the beauty and the beast in one... He's such an authentic artist and knows how to get rough dirty and loud out of control and nothing can stop him once he starts... And then his voice can be so blue and smooth makes you close your eyes and his soul takes you to all those places he goes... He's beyond amazing 👏
Such a van fan !
Lightening Hopkins is the beauty and the beast if the is such and there is no way van morisn can be that sitting beside John Lee Hooker except thru a white person's ears and we black folk know it's not the same thing that's heard.

@@MrMdevaney where's your video with John Lee?

I love a lot of music, classic rock, hip hop, punk, metal, country, and a lot in between but the blues feels like my home. Something I never get tired of. Probably because it feels like it fits my soul the most.
But metal and rock really is just the distortion of blues. Most people who like guitar based rock music will all be partial to blues because those of us who don’t recognise it consciously, recognise it subconsciously. I’m with you though I like some of almost every genre of
Music and really everything in music is about opinion so it can be split really into good music, bad music and country music which is of course just a bit worse than bad music
It's awesome to see JLH just go with it and doesn't miss a beat when Van starts singing
Thanks to all for keeping the son alive
A masterpiece, by two masters.
Nice 🇸🇪
Magical. I felt like that song could have gone on for 20 minutes and I wouldn't have noticed the time.
Simple 2 GEÑIOS....😊
Two men who understand.
Great harp work by Van!! He is 75 years of age, Brown eyed Girl, yo. JLH passed away in 1991 at the age of 83, wow! RIP JLH!!
Actually, it was never determined whether JLH was born in 1912 or 1917. By most accounts, it's recorded that he either died at age 83 or 88. It was a very common thing in the south and other parts to not issue birth certificates or officially record dates of birth for African Americans especially, including the children of sharecroppers, which Sir John Lee Hooker was.
He passed away in 2001
This is priceless! God gave us His love and this is proof of loving eacjh other through music. This is such a gift to us all.

SO AMAZING. Can't replace the blues with rap

From early childhood I've had an unnaturally deep voice and I finally had to go listen to John Lee just to see why people were joking about me sounding like him. It's a heck of a stretch, but the depth is right, and when I was a 4'5 50lb white kid with that voice I can see what they were getting at.
