I've been searching for this video of the complete show for years and years. My dad was John Lee's manager in Detroit at the time this aired. He got John Lee booked on this syndicated Detroit live rock and soul music show, but the TV stations in Detroit wouldn't let them broadcast from their studios because the band was mixed race, and so was the live audience. So my dad got them onto CKLW TV in Windsor Ontario, and the show was broadcast live from there. I remember watching it at home, and when John Lee got to "Boom Boom" I thought "Oh wow, I get it now! I see why my dad is so excited about John Lee.". I was 10 at the time, and I decided that I wanted to be a musician because it was just the coolest thing ever to know somebody who was on TV.
Hey, Suzy - Check out this same footage with way worse video but sharp clear audio like they recorded it off the mixing board instead off of an open mic in the room - Search RUclips: John Lee Hooker 1969 PBS.
Saw him twice in Philly in the 80s. Chestnut Caberet. Got there early so stood right in front of the stage, feet from him. Incredible. Didn’t know there’d come a time that all these greats of the blues would be gone, but man I’m glad I saw him when I did.
Eko 995 bass, I have a real beat one, they sound good. His action looks really high though. Yup The Animals covered Boom Boom in I think 1965, had a big hit with it, British band with Eric Burdon, lead singer.

Wow
His son really has a connection with his dad and makes the music jump. One of his best sessions. John is really in the groove. House Rockin
I meet him in Connecticut ❤❤
That organ sound like screaming angels
that's a Farfisa organ....1960's special
@@kimcook5800 Yup, very common back then.
His thick, gritty baritone voice was unmatched in the blues scene. This man has opened for the Rolling Stones.☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
His son on organ is tremendous.
Bob Dylan’s first concert performance was opening for John Lee Hooker..
and it was an honor for the Rolling Stones
one of the kingpins of the blues
I used to go to the Chessmate on Livernois after hours Saturday night and Boogie with John .
That's Mr. John Lee Hooker to you!
Pour moi, il est l'âme et le génie du blues. Un artiste géant, l'un des plus grands du XXè siècle et sans doute au-delà.
Just too amazing!!!
