My goodness Chloe has matured so much. The sound she produces is absolutely magical. She has to be among THE best violinists of her generation, if not the very best of them all!

Erhu aka Chinese violin plays this song so beautifully too. 😊 and yes do check out the butterfly lovers story as it’ll help us feel the song all the more
I have played this piece, and it's wonderful. The secret to its performance (which Chloe nailed) is that it was originally written for western instruments that would try to capture the spirit of Chinese instruments (in her case, the Erhu.) The piece was banned during the Cultural Revolution, and later was revived, but on traditional Chinese instruments: the opening flute is done on the Dizi, the oboe on the Guan. (Only the Cellos were kept- China has no equivalent.) This piece comes full circle with the violin trying to sound like an erhu, trying to sound like a violin! Very difficult to do, but from the snippet here, she pulled it off. Brava, young lady. ..Joe Sidebar- my violin instructor (and principal violist of the Savannah Symphony Orchestra) is from Beijing, and went to the Beijing Central Conservatory. I sent him the preview video for this, and he recognized about 6-8 members of the SSO that were former classmates of his. 🙂
@@LucienMarine Oh, yes it was. It banned during the cultural revolution because of the use of Western instruments. My source? my good friend who was born and raised in Beijing, who went to the Beijing Central Conservatory, and whose mother was the first woman in history to play viola with the National Symphony. Of course, I'm sure you're going to state that Chinese professional musicians of the era don't know as much as you, so go right ahead. ..Joe
I heard it! I heard the emotional sound of Chinese instrument like describing the thick and thin of life and now reading this makes more sense. Thanks.
Sg and SSO owed to Dr. Goh a great deal. Our mighty tough old guard, who has built many of SG institutions, from Defense, Econ, Culture, and Bird Park. And he was one strongly rejected the idea of letting Sentosa island to be another oil refinery. Dr Goh was its founding patron from 1979 and was acknowledged as such till 2011, a year after his death in 2010. In a 1980 interview with The Straits Times on the occasion of the orchestra's first birthday, Dr Goh said: "We are not the Philistines that our economic and material success might lead people to believe we are. We believe that there's more to life than making money and that the orchestra would be worthwhile as it would raise the standard of culture of Singaporeans."
Yesterday (July 26), The Violin Channel published a very interesting interview with Chloe, in which she announced that she has enrolled on a BA at the Hanns Eisler music school in Berlin, starting in October, where she will study violin with Kolja Blacher. I think that Berlin will soon feel like a home from home (in Chloe's beloved Singapore), and that she will have a wonderful time there. I wish her the very best of luck as she begins this new chapter in her life!

Wow. Thia a great version of 'Butterfly Lovers.' Best I ever heard. Musician encourage take their time. So. Sound so full and vibrant and warm. Chloe pretty cool. Orchestra really awesome, too.
I've been watching Chloe since her Menuhin Tie-Win with Christian Li and always wondered if she would complete a Chinese piece... I guess she answered that! An amazing lady - bravo Ms. Chua!

Have heard the entire performance, it’s beautiful and definitely one of my favourite interpretations of this timeless piece. Chloe’s performance has matured and is nuanced, but I think her musicality will improve even further with time. I hope I get to this piece from her in ten years’ time! ❤
