You have to be the most hard working RUclips drummer I know. The amount of effort put in content writing, recording, video editing has to be insane. Thank you for giving this to us for free. We can only be so grateful.
Dude all your Vids are killer, I could never comprehend Matt's playing by ear, but you give us this killer inside in his playing I the form of awesome videos with great production value. Love it man Sidenote: I a few months I'll be seeing Matt live at a AAL concert:)
I just found your channel and I've been enjoying the videos so far! You do a great job explaining and demonstrating, also the video editing is great! Keep it up! Hopefully you'll get a ton of subs soon.
Yet again perfect lesson to one of the better grooves of Garstka. Not that there are any bad ones :D Are you going to guide us through the whole Madness or what do you have mind for the future?
That would be a tall order even for me but my aim is to finish the brain dance first. I also want to go on to other drummers and topics in the future as well as some request videos which have been piling up :)
Both, but it's not a simple answer therefore I intend to do a part 2 to this video and link it to the following section as well which will more clearly define both the 5/4 and the quintuplets in the music
Hello Wei, appreciate the explanation :)....the only issue i see when I apply this technique is if I am trying to play double strokes with the left hand (for example, a 5 strike roll). Can we execute doubles with this technique??
What is your process in transcribing drum parts? also, how do you transcribe ghost notes, as they are so quiet and i often don't hear them in the song?
I usually slow the song way down to half the speed, ghost notes are hard to hear and come with listening practice I guess, sometimes I have to guess as to whether they are there based on previous parts I've transcribed. You'll realize drummers have a certain way they like to play ghost notes too.
There's no polyrhythm yet, what you're hearing is quintuplets which sound ALMOST like 6/8(group of 6s) which is more familiar to our ears so we can tend to hear 6s instead of 5s.
You really should be giving credit to the guy that filmed the live video. You downloaded his video and put in up in your own. There's fair use but It is dog as fuck when you don't credit the dude or leave a link to it.

Thank you for recognizing that :)
Best RUclips drum channel. Melhor canal de bateria do RUclips. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Jose!
Idk how you dont have more subs man. One of the best drum channels I've come across, you do an awesome job of breaking stuff down.
Thank you Patrick :)
I really enjoy how you show how you build up the groove from a slow tempo all the way to track speed. Thanks for posting!
This was something I was looking for ! Thanks !
Excellent Drummer and teacher Wei...Your drum channel is so great...Hello from France... ;)

Great video :)
Please make A2 section too :D
definitely will, and thanks!
hello..!!
What program (metronome) do you have on your phone?
Your videos are great..!!
I use Polynome, thanks Kasami!
Do you consider that groove to be in 5/4, or for it to be quintuplets in 4/4?
Both, but it's not a simple answer therefore I intend to do a part 2 to this video and link it to the following section as well which will more clearly define both the 5/4 and the quintuplets in the music
Not a drummer here, but I was wondering the same thing. I had a difficult time not feeling the pulse like 4 beats
I can't wait til the video over the crazy part at 3:04 ish
In a while John :)

Yeah I did mention you sacrifice hi-hat control using this method, I'm afraid you'd be better able to play LH doubles on the hi-hat the regular way.
Okies :)...
Interesting way to work aroumd a rearward Hi Hat position. My hi hat is way forward.
Ah then you won't have the same problem :)

Wei Lung Wong thanks man, amazing job with the videos! Greetings from Toronto canada
You're welcome! Cheers!
Is Section D at 2:40 some sort of polymeter thing going on? I could've sworn that part of the song was in a 6/8 or 12/8 meter.
There's no polyrhythm yet, what you're hearing is quintuplets which sound ALMOST like 6/8(group of 6s) which is more familiar to our ears so we can tend to hear 6s instead of 5s.
The first guy I saw doing this was actually Chris Dave. think the vid got taken down thpugh cos it had kanye west tune in it.
Oooh I'm not surprised, Chris Dave is such an innovator, thanks for sharing :)
Can you put subtitles in spanish please? You would help me so much, thanks.
Greetings from Argentina
Is anybody willing to add spanish subtitles to this?
Art Of Drumming HQ mmm I don't know how to make it haha
Let me ask my subscribers in a future video :)
Why not just play the 16th notes on the high-hat as LRLR instead of RLRL? Seems easier than this flick method.
And you can do it in another way , by training your left hand .
1:58 Powerpuff Girls. Anyone?
Lol not fast enough
