- The Gigabyte Brix is a very interesting DIY PC. It's not really designed to be a gaming machine but with various Kaby Lake improvements over Skylake, let's see how the new i7 7500U stacks up against the previous gen i7 6500U.

Can we just take another second to appreciate tf out of Dimitri's efforts that go into the sponsor message.
True, but you don't see this kind of advertising from many other youtubers
Well technically he is getting paid for everything, because he's an employee.
Dimitri looks like Danny Rand.
Dmitry an employee? I don't think so. With his own YT channel he's maybe self-employed and selling his services to appropriate sponsors/clients. So in fact he's a service supplier/freelancer but not an employee. If anyone would be an employee it's Eber, but not Dmitry.
That CM Keyboard skit is TV ad worthy. I hope you got paid good money for that one
JusSnFan Dmitri looked pretty good in that suit, too
lol so true!
it got DAM GOOD award m8
ATMOS most tv ads are, in a way!
I just realized how amazing that CM keyboard layout is. I forgive it that FN is in the right of the spacebar and it doesn't have right click button, but it has combined numpad with arrow keys (I know numpad have arrow keys, but the down arrow is too low). Although I'd prefer: 5-up, 1-left, 2-down, 3-right, but I won't complain. Good job CM.
2:52 "$1000" "Entry level gaming PC" o.0
Yeah. Obviously you need a GTX 1080 to play even close to 1080p
When "bare minimum" is 120 fps........ then yeah, I could agree, but very hardly
Johnny Giddings Are you being sarcastic
wow what a pleb. 240 fps is the absolute lowest I'll go before I just throw the thing out
Entry level "gaming" system, deal with it pcpartpicker.com/list/fmyQxY
Remember the Brix with Gtx 750Ti..? They absolutely need to make one like that with 1050Ti
It was reviewed by LTT, they showed that thing, after some time, started throttling quite noticeably
Tahsin Faiyaz There is one with powerful graphics from Zotac called Zbox ENxxxx.
Tahsin Faiyaz there was one with a 1060 aswell, Google it
Justas Kuizinas That one had a 760.
zotac has a 1070 one right now
You guys are the classiest techtubers out there, no contest. The aesthetic of ever aspect of the video is always on point. Keep it up!
The OTT panning and zooming in this video is hilarious. Check out 5:23 where the box is perched precariously on railings while it's snowing, expertly panning the house opposite into the picture: LMAO!
Go to 1:20 to skip the ads. That's the start of the real review.
one of the first times in my life that the sponsor spot was the best part of a youtube video.
Hardwarecanucks has the best b-roll footage in my opinion
The photography in this video was absolutely gorgeous.
I found the neighbours house opposite in the video more interesting
That Cm keyboard ad was pretty good. I'm buying a Cooler master keyboard now... and a suit.
I set one of these up for my mom last year (pretty sure it is the Skylake model) and it's perfect for her. Does all the basic PC tasks with ease, is tiny so it doesn't require a large space anywhere, and has basically no moving parts so it doesn't suck in a ton of her cat's drifting fur.
Not sarcastic, that sponsored ad was pretty fucking professional and cool.
that snow in the background doe
Yus! New EyePor- I mean Hardware Canucks video!
Seriously though, the shot at the start with Blue/Orange light works so nicely with Ebers complexion :D
I've never found myself liking ads but when I watch this videos I can't help but like them
That keyboard commercial was very cool
I built one of these for a customer and it does work very well. The VESA mounting kit effectively makes any monitor an AIO. For me, the cost is still too high. I have plenty of old computers here that customers gave to me for recycling. I swap components between them and add a cheap SSD. I run all Linux, so a little 32GB SSD works great. My investment is roughly $30 and I have a PC that runs great and does everything I need. I'm not a gamer. I use these as Media Center PC's with Kodi. Okay, so my computers are not silent. They are old mid towers. They take up space and eat a little more electricity. But for a little work and a VERY tiny monetary investment they can't be beat!
I walked into a pub before and saw a dwarf holding a shot glass.
I said, "Are you enjoying your pint, mate?"
i wish it had one more lan port for a pfsense box. love the form factor of this and the beebox
Holy crap that's the best advertisement I've ever seen. Nice work Dimitri :)
Nice, that keyboard commercial with Dmitry was great. I think the goal should be to try and make as many of these commercials as seamless as possible, blurred lines ;-)
I like those adds too. not intrusive at all and they get me thinking on those products. other content creators shoe in those audible ads when it's entirely unrelated.
Why don't AMD do this thing with APUs? Why don't AMD think to use Mini-STX form factor for APUs? Don't anyone in AMD thinks about small form factor systems? Damn it AMD!
Maybe because they're so old and unusable these days amd doesn't want anything to do with them. But they are making new ones.
And not even intel adopted the stx form factor so why should amd?Hardly anyone knows they exist because of the shitty marketing.
some comapnies like Gigbyte have mad AMD SFF pcs like this before for example www.gigabyte.com/Mini-PcBarebone/GB-BXA8G-8890-rev-10#ov Also Intel/AMD have nothing to do with actually making these thats all on the OEMs
APU is targeting on low end gaming laptop
and also they're working on cheap laptop market
I vaguely recall seeing a Zotac SFF APU bare bone chassis, cheap. Not really advertised much.
I love the lighting in your videos. well done. you should do a video on how you achieved the look you get.
Little fun fact, McDonald's use these on brackets mounted on the back of their monitors. They use it with Windows 7, and it runs a batch file on startup that then loads a chrome extension, monitoring the time elapsed that each car spends at each section of the drive thru.
FYI the pictures linked on amazon are wrong for both units (reversed).
never thought i would ever see corsair value ram in a hardwarecanucks video XD
I use them for mini-servers. Currently have one running Fedora28, works well, very quiet.
as a media PC maybe, but tbh you can't touch the pi 3 for both a server and media player. it handles 1080p streaming via Plex with a little work and no buffering to speak of, pair it with your media library and a plex player and Bam you have the ability to tell it what ya want on demand, instead of using a remote for about 150$ when all said and done.
I use mine for Drupal development, running Ubuntu 16.04. Very happy with the performance so far.
Duude what camera do you use it looks amazing
Holy crap, your ad-game is strong.
That's a pretty cool power supply
I might get one if I had a lot of extra money... love your snowy B-roll, by the way
I dont know this guys name but I watch his videos to help me sleep.
I can see it for family members. I hand-down my old builds to my mom, but if you're saying $1k after adding drives etc, would be better to keep handing down or build a mATX or ITX...
This guys make adverts enjoyable
Great product. I have the Celeron-based BRIX (cost $99 US) mounted behind a TV as a HTPC since 2014.
Now it has Windows 10 on it and it works even better than before.
This one though...that price is a deal-breaker.
Ebert, best pickup since Harden
How to have the processing power of an ultrabook without the screen at the price of a gaming pc without... well anything that would actually allow you to game
I got one of these with an i3 a couple years ago for my HTPC, works well for the task and is very quiet. Just wish it had an IR for a remote.
Son37Lumiere get remote mouse app or usb ir receiver
I'm curious...what if 128GB M.2 drive with a 2TB mechanical laptop HDD to create a micro NAS?
That would be pretty cool actually.
Definitely..although hardware compatibility might be an issue. I'm probably gonna give it a shot tho :D
That would be awesome, Eber! Let me know how it goes...hopefully this doesn't get lost among the tons of notifications my RUclips keeps throwing at me, lmao
You could get away with an "entry level PC" with $500. $1000 is a solid mid-tier PC. The GTX 1070 I still consider to be more enthusiast grade, while the 1060 is a pretty good mid-tier GPU in my opinion. But hey, people who get review units of ultra high-end GPU's may think differently.
You have the best ads dude lol
Anyone else notices the USB A port on the kabylake looks just mangled
These make great mini-servers for home or small office.
I'm curious if you're going to review MSI's Trident. Most interesting barebones kit on the market IMO. Comes with a 6GB 1060 in a form factor about the size of an Xbox for $600.
That's not Dimitri, but I can learn to love.
Every Brix, NUC, Beebox and friends pales compared to the Deskmini from ASRock. I would buy one of those, put a desktop CPU in it and get much much better performance at a similar price. That thing could even fit a 65W CPU like the 7700, it's just crazy.
Your ads are on point!
indeed
The unit costs $500 and you said adding ram and storage gets you to $1000! How can someone spend $500 on storage and ram, then.... he said an entry level gaming PC is $1000 which is untrue, although the sponsor message was pretty goooood
I like the small box form idea, but I do have a laptop that is a i7 and it can travel on vacation. I would try this just on a entertainment system only, because Blue Ray player menu sux that much.
Before watching the video: Betteridge's law of headlines states that any headline that ends with a question mark can be answered with the word *no* . So is it a MINI Performance Monster? No, it's not.
EDIT: Yep, I was right.
i wanna get one of these mostly as a youtube/twitch/little retro box.
for when my pc is in use for other games. im currently using a steamdeck but i feel like thats more annoying to grab out the case each time i wanna get a few minutes of gaming in during my main game que times :D awesome review.
i bought another box but that thing when booted up was more android based and i could not change the OS :( even my IT friend said just buy a new one but make sure to see if u can run it to win 7 or 10 next time.
Dmitri in a suit (づ ◕ ʖ ◕ )づ
I didn't hear you mention how much RAM it takes. Anyway, I think it would work well for at least full 1080p video editing. I'm currently using a Shuttle SFF PC with 16GB RAM, Core i7 3770s and SSD's and had no issues.
It would be interesting to see the results for the i5 and i3 units too, as they are probably more towards what a typical person would get (because of price).
we use these at work for signage players. they are great.
>$1000
>entry level
How does this stay cool? The ASRock Deskmini requires (and has just enough room for) a fan above the chip.
first time i see this channel really good explanation on all sites, at the price of 399 plus around 100 for the extra its kinda too much but its movable like laptop, more than that i play games in old pc build and still going really good for 2 years of playing.
what do you mean not meant for gaming ? gaming like anything or gaming like good speks games ?
Good for digital signage and even small htpc applications. I think AsRock (Beebox) still has the better package for the price though.
anyone happen to know how well these kind of things would run a DAW like Ableton Live etc? as a student and producer this would be really useful to carry around to recording sessions and taking it back home and back to uni
Oh wow, actually good advertisement!
Since it has USB 3.1 I think I can plug external graphic card and get desktop performance when i edit videos. But on a daily use as a developer that one would be enough for me. Right now I am using MacMini 2012 and it is still works for me well. I am sure this brix would be much better. And yet even after memory and SSD it is still cheaper than similar MacMini new. Even more. You cannot get anything close to performance in MacMini range.
Those things are also vry good for Console streamers! Pair this Barebone with a USB Capture card and use it as a streaming machine. Put in a regular 2.5 Harddrive with 2TB and a m2 SSD for OS . in that solution you shouldnt excede the 1K $ mark (including windows) and have a descent stream machine and a PC to edit Footage for uTube. Add a Logitech K830 Wireless rechargeable Keyboard (with good trackpad) into the mix and u can do all those stuff from the couch while having a vry small formfactor HTPC/Workmachine with low power consumption! SHOULD GET THE HARDWARE CANUCKS DAMN GOOD AWARD!
1000$ is the price of an entry level gaming PC? Like hell it is
-2:54
That crooked usb 3.1 port though.
Would love to have one, but, the price is ridiculous after you add it all up.
What happened to the front USB port...? looks kind of broken. (Kaby Lake @03:22 )
be cool to see if you can play old pc games or emulation
So this is Gigabyte's version of Intel's Nuc. Alright...
It's cheaper than intel's though, right?
I actually see this useful for 2 pc twitch streamers
Or they could upgrade their gaming pc to higher core count cpus like the ryzen lineup and ditch idea of the 2nd streaming pc, it would cost less to do that assuming they already have a gaming pc and are just upgrading cpu motherboard and possibly ram, and would give better performance in any production tasks they might occasionally have to do. Doesn't seem all that useful when ultra small form factor stuff like this risks thermal throttling if you stress it too much and 8 cores are now affordable. Even if they absolutely need to use a second streaming pc, they would probably be better off with an itx build with beefier cooling and even higher clock speeds, so they don't risk thermal throttling and get better performance.
I would do that same thing i.e build a ryzen based computer, but I'm just saying if someone wanted to go that route they could
bro me and my brother wana buy one and we need to knew can we play video games at 60 fps
I like the form factor and USB 3.1 on the new Gigabyte Brix but the cost is not worth it for the specs. Plus it is a "U" class processor not a desktop grade CPU. I would rather get an Asrock Desk Mini 110 and maybe hack to add an external eGPU. Might look into doing that one day as it does have mini-PCIE.
Did he just say a $1000 is the price of an entry level gaming pc!
is this the one that you posted with just the grills on twitter?
Will ASRock make an updated deskmini?
I want something this size that can also play Overwatch and GTA5. Can it be done?
for that price there are mini ITX cases that are the same size
Want to see performance with external graphics card through thunderbolt
I'm really shocked about the Overwatch score considering 22% of the player base uses integrated graphics.
i3 model with kodi and you good to go ..
With the usb3.1 could you hook up an external GPU peripheral and run as a gaming setup as well?
might be ok for a web surfer or media box
did gigabyte quit making the models with dedicated GPUs? I know they had a i5 Brix with a GTX750 or something along those lines. wonder what a gtx 10 series model would run
Am wondering if it was possible to take one and put it in mac min g4 casw.
If I ever get cats, I need to get them their own computer to keep them off mine. This one should do a.o.good.
For me, it's performance over size. These small PCs are great because they show what you can do in a small chassis. But for gaming use, they're still not there. But they aren't really meant for that, so it's fine.
can it play CS go online game ? Live Video Demo have ! & can it link to Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming Box ?
could we pair this with an external gpu enclosure? what would the estimated performance be?
can it act as a host PC supporting like 6 users? ncomputing?
do they have a fan installed?
All such mini PC should comes with Thunderbolt 3 connection (such as the Intel NUC Skull). So gamer can simply upgrade their graphics card via an eGPU enclosure.
Comoon 720p and low-medium settings works fine :P
Is it fanless ?
Im always wondering how you could mount this behind a monitor without removing the stand.. as most monitors cover up the vesa mount with the stand assembly
There are many that don't tho.
Does it have passive cooling or with fan?
hello and congratulations for your video. I also bought this minipc but a slower version. I have a problem. On boot it stops on the American Megatrend screen with the upper right hand side of Setup | BSS. Can you help me please?! I checked everything and I did a lot of tests. I can't solve. Thanks in advance
