Kp _rider how? You still need a monitor, mouse and keyboard. For just a touch more space, why wouldn't you just build a much more powerful mITX system. If you actually wanted a convenient LAN system, get a laptop, it's just as upgradable as this Hades Canyon NUC.
Competitive gaming on laptop keyboard? With this you can just plug in 144hz monitor, mouse and keyboard of your choice and its much cleaner than getting laptop Obviously mITX system is better in that way, but this is good option.
+caleb grefe this is still considerably more portable than any normal Case Form Factor, and performs at a level that means you can totally play whatever you're going to be playing with your friends. hell you could even Velcro your Keyboard and the NUC to the Monitor you're going to use and carry all that around as one single object + the Mouse. a little bit expensive for LAN's unless you're rolling in it, but that portability is unrivaled while still retaining performance. getting a Notebook that can support high Refresh Rate gaming is going to hurt you in cost vs this. you're looking at ~$2000 on average for a Notebook that can hit those bells, and you still need a Keyboard and Mouse to go with that to make the purchase worth it.
taiiat yes you could Velcro this to the back of a screen and wrap it all up with your keyboard and chuck it in a travel case. . . OR they have these things called . . . .”lap” “tops” or something don’t know much about them but apparently you can even get “gaming” versions.
This could be benefitial for foreign people like me, since shipping cost can be reduced with the smaller size and weight. If this came out earlier i would have probable bought this instead of a gaming laptop.
Indeed, I think it's odd too, I mean, they sometimes do thermal/temperature tests for normal CPUs and not for a NUC? just the thing I was most interested in. Weird.
So, LMG spent hundreds of thousands of dollars (I'm guessing) to move out of a house and stop filming in a kitchen, buy a studio and build great looking sets, only to build a fake kitchen to film in... Talk about coming full circle.
Got a chance to use this at IEM Sydney 2018 and I must say (although the limited time I had to use it) it a absolutely stomped my 2016 NUC and will make a great addition to my LAN rigs when I am able to afford it

Question: Will this Hades Canyon run the Radeon Graphics all the time (e.g like desktop, internet videos as with gaming) or is it just reserved for gaming and high GPU software and default to the on-board Intel HD 620 graphics for everything else. Thanks in advance!
BikerDarren24 The GPU will only give the needed power for anything you throw at it. It wont work at 100% because you run minesweeper , that's just not needed.
I'm pretty sure that they won't include onboard graphics in addition to "dedicated" (but still directly soldered ONBOARD) graphics. So my guess is that there's no Intel HD graphics. I mean, why should it be there?
Great review Linus! I think the Hades Canyon NUC has really improved and offers a lot for a small and compact computer. Looking into the future I hope they could maybe improve the build quality, as the design just looks a bit cheap with all the plastics. This is a very strong machine, yet it looks like some kind of old DVD player from the last decade. This is, of course, subjective, though I am very happy to see how far the Hades Canyon NUC has come. Keep up the great work!
i bought NUC SC due to linus intro it two years ago, it work fine since than, but lack of GPU such a big pain, GPU nowadays overprice and eGPU far expensive than we though. This might be a super good deal if you looking mini-pc, but beware of brunch of wire on your desk! If you manage to mouth your NUC behind monitor, that will be very neat setup!
As someone approaching my mid 30s who rarely games but still wants to pick one up every now and then this thing is absolutely perfect. Especially as having a huge case housing my PC parts doesn't really fit into the aesthetics of my house anymore I'm very keen to ditch the big black box under my deck and grab one of these ASAP
hmmm... not bad :D defiantly something i might want to look into when the price drops a little, but i do love the way they implemented to LED lights, instead of just trowing it on everything, or make it one small disco shiny thingy, like most RGB setups i see, then this is subtle but yes classic, im actually quite impressed by this :D

Hi, I'm Nikolas, from Germany. Love your vids! Could you please do a more detailed comparison between the zephyrus, the aero 15x and the I think it's called msi gs 65? Please??? I think about buying one of them and it would help me very much! Also I want to know, if the speakers are better than the zephyrus gx501 and if it can compeat with the Alienware 17 R4. Thanks.
Manthan Pakhawala I know, but he also didn't do a comparison, just reviews of all three. I'm subscribed to him too, and asked the same qustion already. But thanks a lot for the suggestion! Do you know an other tech-reviewer, that reviews laptops recently like Linus and Dave? I think there is a chanel named "laptops" that's also pretty cool. Thx for answering!
It's very unlikely you'll get a comparison of all three but if you visit a laptop review website I'm sure you'll be able to compare aggregate scores from there
Does anyone think we are past the golden age of PC gaming and building culture? Like, it seems everything was more exciting and higher quality around the haswell/Maxwell era (when most of us where looking forward to buying a 980 with a 4790k in)? Or that one lucky bastard would be able to afford an X99 system? Water-cooling became mainstream, and the technology felt good for the price?
I already have a mobile pc for taking to lan parties, and to work to play games. But this thing, it takes portable gaming to a whole new tier of awesome. If I didn't have to spend $1500 on a new enterprise switch board for networking, I'd actually consider this thing, as it actually is pretty cool for it's size, and useful too.
A stick of celery can run Fortnight well. PUBG is a moving target as far as benchmarking goes; it wasn't long ago that a 1070 was basically requited to run PUBG decently.
Dan Hyde PUBG has really shit consistency of frames even with top of of the line specs. Meanwhile Fortnite can be played decently from a desktop of 2010.
I think its compatible with 64GB or RAM. It supports up to 2x32GB DDR4 SODIM. Though those kits aren't released yet the Hades Canyon NUC is compatible with those kits when they come out.
HCNuc is not mean for desktop use.. it is suitable for complete VR setup while you put the HCNuc on your back as bag then all stupid cables are compacted from it to the VR for great experience. When we see if the HCNuc is completely portable that it it may able to run longer on battery rather than long power cable
Julien Johnson, I thought the same thing. I think Ausintune I had traumatic childhood experiences. Now he likes being a jerk to people asking legitimate questions.
Is it bad I’m actually thinking about buying this instead of a 1070 and a 2600 build? this shit seems cheap af edit: nevermind 3k aud compared to 1k usd when I can build a 1070 and 2600 for around 2k damn. OH AND THATS INCLUDING THE PRICE OF THE MONITOR. awesome product extremely compact great for LAN but not a budget build type thing.
Cool video, cool hardware. Man, the guy on the camera should not have shot wide open when Linus was showing us Bizarro World Intel Radeon. I would love to have seen details right there and than instead of having the focus exclusively on Linus face.
That might be hard seeing as it doesn't have a "lid" to remove. It, like most mobile chips, already uses direct die cooling. He could probably upgrade the thermal paste.
I don't think there'd be much interesting to see there. They're just regular parts that are glued together along one edge and fit into tightly co-sited sockets on the motherboard, so that the 8 dedicated PCIe lanes between them are little more than jumper traces (saving energy, as well as motherboard space, now that the interface is no longer running via a separate chip), and so they can share a single cooler.
For those who only know nvidia, multiply the CU number by 64 to get the 'stream processors' which is roughly equivalent to 'cuda cores'. Not the same, but roughly equivalent, functionally. They are both the names given to the pixel pipelines. 24 * 64 = 1536 20 * 64 = 1280 The Vega 64 has 64 CU's, hence the name, for a total of 4096 stream processors.
This might be the first time ever that Linus actually affected a purchase for me. Probably would have heard about this 20 years down the line otherwise. "Remember that unholy alliance between AMD and Intel back in 2018?" Now I can own one and be like "pff bitch, I still use mine to automate my toilet!"
I can see products like this getting many console gamers, such as myself, to switch over to mainly PC. The price point is the only thing that will hold most people back, I think. Although, it's hard to tell what the next generation of consoles will bring since the leap from PS3 and 360 to current is quite impressive.
I can definitely see AMD using this tech in the next-gen consoles. NUC's are somewhat of a niche product right now. So, the prices will be higher than building your own. Plus, the small form factor adds to the price too. ...The graphical leap from PS3 to PS4 wasn't *nearly* as substantial as previous generations. Both Sony and MS were trying to save money this gen. If you look at the PS3 when it came out it cost Sony $800 for each console. PS4 cost Sony $280 at launch. The 360 and PS3 were on par with high-end 2006 PC's. While PS4 was on par with a lower mid-end PC in 2013. The abysmal cpu's in XB1 and PS4 are their biggest faults. Next-gen should have Ryzen.
Aditya Upadhye I think he screwed himself over by opening the thing and destroying it . I bet Intel doesn't even have out of warranty replacement parts for this thing.
Well obviously a NUC any fault they would just replace the whole unit and as the RAM and storage is not included you HAVE to open it. An all-in-one however, you DO expect them to at least be able to repair it for a cost. Pretty sure if you broke a PC all-in-one, even from opening it, the manufacturer would repair it if you paid.
pretty sure the manufacturer is under no obligation to repair it. there are many factors where they are unable to...such as not having the parts availability to replace the parts YOU broke. usually they just replace the entire unit under warranty if it is in fact a warranty issue...but if you physically destroy the machine , they can't just replace it under warranty. They would probably charge you the retail cost of the item anyway especially if it's cutting edge hardware. cut your losses and move on.
Consoles cut down space and components like the GPU and make the CPU an APU. So if to beat it you’d probably need AMD’s Vega 11 Graphics in their Ryzen 5 CPU’s
looks interesting, i hope you're planning on doing another video to show if it actually performs in VR. New compact VR setup, or something easily hidden for the living room.
Every popular e-sport game has extremely low requirements compared to regular AAA titles. DOTA2, Overwatch, CS:GO etc would probably run on a turd if it could produce binary code.
Stygian Doll I always thought a graphing calculator was the min spec for CS. I’m going have to bring my setup outside and hook up my dogs fresh leaving to test this.
part of the reason overwatch runs so well is that its programed at a decent quality level. and designed from the ground up for a spread spectrum of PC qualitys simillar to all blizzard games. games like crysis for exsample dont give a fuck if it can run on anything other than the top 20% of machines at release. and the hardware companys love it!
I would love to see this used for VR. Power it off a battery with a DC to DC converter and you wouldn't need that bulky power brick. This would be great compared to current backpack systems, and if you used it with an inside-out tracked MR headset, you would have no physical limit to how far you could travel!
It should be in my opinion be compared to a similarly priced gaming laptop. With ram and storage prices included. If the laptop has equal performance just get the laptop. You can use it plug it in a monitor if you want to or just play right off of it.
I'd rather spend a bit more for a laptop with the same specs and I/O ports (including the Thunderbolt): at least I'd have an integrated UPS (many people spend a lot of money on their computers just to "forget" buying an UPS), and could use it as a desktop replacement whenever possible (perhaps using the integrated display as secondary screen) AND as a laptop when on the go...
These awesome little pcs because of the native TB3 support are replacing mac based stations in recording studios all over the place.. I have always played for the PC Team but up until these it was extremely difficult and expensive to get a stable TB3 connection on a PC and have used mac based systems. That's over now.
I feel like comparing this to another small Form Facter Desktop would have been a better thing to do. Since, for some reason, smaller form factors of certain parts, do cost a little more than the normal sized parts. And could have given better accuracy, as most people would buy this if they wanted a smaller form factor Computer.

Eric Hempel It just seems very over priced and fits no use case that I can think of.
i bought NUC SC due to linus intro it two years ago, it work fine since than, but lack of GPU such a big pain, GPU nowadays overprice and eGPU far expensive than we though. This might be a super good deal if you looking mini-pc, but beware of brunch of wire on your desk! If you manage to mouth your NUC behind monitor, that will be very neat setup!
This is awesome! Using an eGPU might relax the future upgrade-ability woes.
Wow. This is insane. Tech is always getting better and cheaper 🤤
Thanks to white and yellow males.
Well... Cheaper isn't exactly true at the moment, but yeah.
Cheap...?
consider my nigga. this big boi has more processing power than the entire planet did just a couple decades ago and peasants can afford it.
And smaller
As someone approaching my mid 30s who rarely games but still wants to pick one up every now and then this thing is absolutely perfect. Especially as having a huge case housing my PC parts doesn't really fit into the aesthetics of my house anymore I'm very keen to ditch the big black box under my deck and grab one of these ASAP

This or iPhone X? Easiest decision ever.
🤔
HAHAHAHHAHA
Yeah, super easy decision
iPhone X of course
I'd personally buy a more expensive phone like the iPhone X since I use them for a lot more than my PC
Mario or you can buy 3310, they are close in performance
hmmm... not bad :D defiantly something i might want to look into when the price drops a little, but i do love the way they implemented to LED lights, instead of just trowing it on everything, or make it one small disco shiny thingy, like most RGB setups i see, then this is subtle but yes classic, im actually quite impressed by this :D
*Wow it's as small as some hard drives*
Stack it together with the power brick and a 6Tb USB3 HDD and you could have quite a beasty little system that fits neatly under a stand-mounted TV...

I'm about to NUC.

Most comparable system I could build:
i3 8350k (i5/i7 to pricey, and needs to be overclockable)
noctua nh-l9i
msi - z370i gaming pro carbon mini itx
1x16gb crucial ram
intel 760p 512gb m.2
asus strix radeon rx 570 4gb (most comparable performance to vega m gh)
Silverstone ml08b-h (about as close as you can get to the portability)
corsair sf450w psu
windows 10 home
Price: NZD1918.07 (+shipping)
NUC Price with same specs: NZD1634.00 (free shipping)
I feel like a good slogan for this would be something like "less tower, more power"
Thanks.
There is a pretty detailed review of each by an amazing RUclipsr called Dave2D. You should check him and his channel out
Manthan Pakhawala I know, but he also didn't do a comparison, just reviews of all three. I'm subscribed to him too, and asked the same qustion already. But thanks a lot for the suggestion! Do you know an other tech-reviewer, that reviews laptops recently like Linus and Dave? I think there is a chanel named "laptops" that's also pretty cool. Thx for answering!
Mobile Tech Review is a pretty decent... mobile.. tech.. reviewer.. but it's mostly aimed at professional / ultrabook laptops.
It's very unlikely you'll get a comparison of all three but if you visit a laptop review website I'm sure you'll be able to compare aggregate scores from there
Dennis Graff ok, ill check it out thank you!
Awesome to see Origin as a sponsor on here.
Linus didn’t drop it , I’m shocked.
I love amd more then linus im sorry linus. U cant be hot like those fx chips and u cant fit in my pc case
tfw you have a 6Ghz cpu
Does anyone think we are past the golden age of PC gaming and building culture? Like, it seems everything was more exciting and higher quality around the haswell/Maxwell era (when most of us where looking forward to buying a 980 with a 4790k in)? Or that one lucky bastard would be able to afford an X99 system? Water-cooling became mainstream, and the technology felt good for the price?
I have to say, for the first time in a LOOOOOOOONG time....I'm tempted by a specific PC.
So freaking cool!
Gear Seekers
Cought you . You are one of the awesome channel in RUclips
Thanks so much!
I already have a mobile pc for taking to lan parties, and to work to play games. But this thing, it takes portable gaming to a whole new tier of awesome. If I didn't have to spend $1500 on a new enterprise switch board for networking, I'd actually consider this thing, as it actually is pretty cool for it's size, and useful too.
in benchmarking, you should probably include fortnite and or pubg, being such big games right now, would be a good thing to know before buying.
A stick of celery can run Fortnight well. PUBG is a moving target as far as benchmarking goes; it wasn't long ago that a 1070 was basically requited to run PUBG decently.
Hardware Unboxed or Paul's Hardware tested them
Dan Hyde PUBG has really shit consistency of frames even with top of of the line specs. Meanwhile Fortnite can be played decently from a desktop of 2010.
If your PC can run Windows 10 it can run Fortnite
get yourself and those stupid trendy games off my lawn
5:05 Nice spit there.
7:23 thats not a big deal.. my phenom ii and r7 360 can play any game on lowest settings...
How does it stack up against the LattePanda?
The important question is... Can it play WORD MUNCHERS?
Candi Soda probably low settings at about 21 fps
He was joking tho lol
Origin pc is legit, I only buy their laptops but the quality and customer service is awesome. Glad to see they got some ads going with you guys.
*Best thing about it is that it NUCks off other form factors*
Anybody else thinking portable monitor??... Oh that's a laptop.
Mr. Miyagi does anyone else want a battery and included ram and storage?
I really don't see the point of a portable desktop like this. Just get a laptop
I Z this is not a portable computer its just a compact small form factor computer t that u can stick it in the back side of a tv
Idk if that works tho
xXx_MlgTr1kSh00ter _Xx ofc it works, it's has hdmi and all.

Would be sold if it had 2.5” storage options.
Why on earth didn't he monitor mount the NUC? Wouldn't it have been the penultimate way to demonstrate it?
So it has more power and more IO than current gen console? and in smaller package? damn
The thing i love most about this little nuc is that it technically "can be" upgrade-able to a certain extent, with one of those graphics card docs...
2 lightning 3.1? Does that mean external gpu sli?
Aden Ahmed the CPU can't fucking do that moron.
Ausintune lmao im trying anyways. My mobo has 3 lightning bolt ports
Ausintune u a dik
Your name is 90% sexy, something just doesn't seem right....
Julien Johnson, I thought the same thing. I think Ausintune I had traumatic childhood experiences. Now he likes being a jerk to people asking legitimate questions.
Is it bad I’m actually thinking about buying this instead of a 1070 and a 2600 build? this shit seems cheap af
edit: nevermind 3k aud compared to 1k usd when I can build a 1070 and 2600 for around 2k damn.
Linus. Seriously. You've gotta delid that cpu/gpu. For science.
And intel has just killed it. : (
For those who only know nvidia, multiply the CU number by 64 to get the 'stream processors' which is roughly equivalent to 'cuda cores'. Not the same, but roughly equivalent, functionally. They are both the names given to the pixel pipelines.
24 * 64 = 1536
20 * 64 = 1280
The Vega 64 has 64 CU's, hence the name, for a total of 4096 stream processors.
Take a shot every time he says and.
read the comment, what a great idea for a nerd drinking game...well played.
Everyone else: We have won the mini-PC market!
Intel and AMD: omae wa mou shinderu
Everyone else:”NANI?!”
Lol
gringo *shindeiru
Oh and another thing, through testing other sites have found these are not actually using Vega architecture but rather Polaris
"Similarly priced desktop"

I got one
I ship it
Sycration Xyrozalda intel was all there like "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em".
Color me impressed. Thats a pretty good system for the size!
Me watching in 2020: overpriced
I would rather buy a laptop and plug it into my tv
you know you could not do that right? you need new expensive laptop for that shit.
i knowed a lot of gaming knowleg and pc parts info cause of u love your content
This might be the first time ever that Linus actually affected a purchase for me. Probably would have heard about this 20 years down the line otherwise. "Remember that unholy alliance between AMD and Intel back in 2018?" Now I can own one and be like "pff bitch, I still use mine to automate my toilet!"
Stygian Doll Just curious, what's your use case for it?
caleb grefe Did you not hear him and his goals of automating his toilet?
Showoff. My toilets still have last gen gpus :(
Internet of multi-core, multi-threading integrated discrete graphics with a SSD RAID toilets
$799 for that sick gpu vs $30 on a used raspberry pi for toilet automation 😩
"inuk chuk"
Both Sony and MS were
trying to save money this gen. If you look at the PS3 when it came out it cost Sony $800 for each console. PS4 cost Sony $280 at launch. The 360 and PS3 were on par
with high-end 2006 PC's. While PS4 was on par with a lower mid-end PC in 2013. The abysmal cpu's in XB1 and PS4 are their biggest faults. Next-gen should have Ryzen.
Linus! Don't open it! What if they screw you over like Apple?
Also intel sometimes sponsors linus and intel is not A d** like apple
You have to open it, if you have bought it as a barebones.. i had to do the same with my Skull Canyon one..
Now if they made it $400 it would of replaced Consoles
To beat consoles they'd need to make an i3 variant, otherwise they'd never be able to drop the price enough.
Wait... Overwatch counts as easy to run?
Every popular e-sport game has extremely low requirements compared to regular AAA titles. DOTA2, Overwatch, CS:GO etc would probably run on a turd if it could produce binary code.
Craftbloxroyale I mean, it runs on a 2013 laptop ffs.
It's easier to run than most games, but Paladins is lot easier if you looking for something similar.
Stygian Doll I always thought a graphing calculator was the min spec for CS. I’m going have to bring my setup outside and hook up my dogs fresh leaving to test this.
part of the reason overwatch runs so well is that its programed at a decent quality level. and designed from the ground up for a spread spectrum of PC qualitys simillar to all blizzard games. games like crysis for exsample dont give a fuck if it can run on anything other than the top 20% of machines at release. and the hardware companys love it!
poor nVidia
Just wait and see. Intel is already making gpus and also helps AMD in this case
"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"
What is that game it is running at 7:44? Or is it just a visual demo?
I got a nvidia ad
👍👍👍
Would have been nice if you tested VR on this thing since it is boasting VR support.
I would love to see this used for VR. Power it off a battery with a DC to DC converter and you wouldn't need that bulky power brick. This would be great compared to current backpack systems, and if you used it with an inside-out tracked MR headset, you would have no physical limit to how far you could travel!
That's like a super OP console. Consoles also have a share CPU and GPU chip, just like this little guy. Interesting and very cool!
It should be in my opinion be compared to a similarly priced gaming laptop. With ram and storage prices included. If the laptop has equal performance just get the laptop. You can use it plug it in a monitor if you want to or just play right off of it.
thats really cool, the only thing I would have liked to have seen more of was internal temps and stuff.
