Great video! Yea Sennelier and Winsor and newton have my least favorite earth tones- its like they didnt even try lol. Regarding PR242 I believe both Lukas and White Nights carry the color- tho I believe Senneliers is the most transparent. Great video and Im excited for your review. Thanks for sharing and much ❤

Thanks so much for watching and for your information about PR242! I honestly love the pigment and handprint as well as other youtubers had said that only sennelier carried it . I'm happy to know other brands also carry it even if it's hard to find because I was worried it maybe phased out . I completely agree about winsor newton's earth tones and sennelier aswell though I think sennelier is a bit better. The yellow ochre is decent and the burnt sienna in tube form is certainly useable . I must say though from what I've seen of the burnt and raw umber I'd skip and just stick to the warm sepia. It's pretty strong . And ofcourse we can mix our own browns easily enough from complimentary colors . Still I think they could have done better with the earth's and they are the weakest link of the collection.

Sennelier Yellow light, Nickel dioxine yellow PY153, is the most transparent yellow I have used other that PY150 which is Nickel azomethine yellow. No yellow is more transparent than PY150. Sennelier Yellow light is more transparent than Sennelier Lemon Yellow PY3. Actually Schmincke has had PR242 for a few years . I know Jacksons watercolor, White Nights, Lukas, a couple other brands have it now. Thanks for sharing!

I’m glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching 🙂 I disagree about the Py153 it definitely was a bit chalky and semi opaque/ semi transparent in testing . If you haven’t already try painting it out over a black line of dried ink . I really love the primary yellow and find it to be one of the most transparent of all their yellows but it’s personal preference and I will use up the yellow light eventually ( certainly not as opaque as cad yellow ) . I agree about Nickel azo yellow, that yellow is incredible! The glow is unmatched ☺️ I have the M Graham and Daniel smith versions as well as the mission gold .

    Nice “first impressions” video!
My main palette is almost half Daniel Smith, and the other half is Sennelier & Schmincke. I agree Sennelier is not tailored for allaprima (unless your style is very delicate and ethereal.) I’ve used Sennelier for a long time, and between their oil pastels/sticks, inks, watercolors, and their experimental acrylic products, I’m always sold on their versatility and quality. It’s funny tho- I’ve heard so many ppl discuss their paints as “weaker intensity” and found out the Hard way that No One shared the memo with their Dioxizine purple!!! That color has very little chill 😆.
Looking forward to seeing other reactions/reviews.

Thanks so much ! I hate when people call the sennelier watercolors weaker. They aren't weak they are just designed for layering and boy do they glow like none other 🙂

THANK YOU ! I appreciate you telling me that because I love this pigment and was told only sennelier had it . I'd love to try the schmincke version too . I've not tried the schmincke watercolors but I hear positive things.

@@nicolemartinart5819 Schmincke is one of my favourite Brands. My other favourites are A. Gallo, Holbein, Rembrandt, Kremer and Daniel Smith. And I like the Roman Szmal colors I tried so far.

Great video! I personally have used Sennelier, Whiite Nights and Daniel Smith. I am partial to Sennelier because of the quality, the price and the selection (DS goes overboard on the colour range!) You hit the mail in your assessment; Sennelier are transparent and glowing and work beautifully for glazing. I typically work in layers so I love them. But the earth colours are definitely the weak link- I will investigate Sepia now that I have seen your video!

So glad you enjoyed . I'm filming a full review very soon . I think Swatch videos can be very helpful especially for people who are shopping online and don't have access to art stores locally. So I like to do the swatches live on video. But yes so far I love these watercolors. I also like Daniel smith, m graham, mission gold , qor and others but the sennelier , they just have a glow and luminosity that's special to these watercolors. I don't feel like any other brand I have has quite the same qualities and characteristics as the sennelier. . And I also love to glaze and work in layers like yourself. Oh P.S I agree about Daniel smith color selection going overboard and frankly a little gimmicky. Especially with those primatek colors. Lol 😂 and a lot of unnecessary convenience mixtures. I love Daniel Smith paints but I don't trust them as much anymore because of the primatek controversy and also dishonest lightfast information on their labeling . ( Cough cough moonglow ) on that subject I am currently running my own lightfast testing and the results will be a series of videos coming in the future on nearly every brand .

@@nicolemartinart5819 I wish I could I was as meticulous regarding color selection! I have myself fallen into the DS marketing trap and purchased colors that look gorgeous but actually I don't end up using as much (ah yes that moonglow!). I only make swatches of paints I buy for reference and that's it! I typically end usually a very limited palette (my Sennelier selection is only 10 colors). The first colors I purchased were White Nights which are great value for money. I typically hate the ready made palettes because they always have a few dud colors but I started with a 12 colour White Nights set and added more colors but I found out that outside my 10-12 chosen colours I hardly use others. For example I always prefer making a grey from ultramarine and burnt umber rather than use my Payne's grey! The range you get from mixing colors is way better than using that single convenience colour.

I have sennelier and Daniel Smith, Winsor & Newton. I love sennelier more now as it dries brighter. Daniel have stronger pigments and good for earth tones. Daniel Smith dry dull even though they are stronger. Now I can see why sennelier are liked for flowers botanicals. There clean and great to glaze. I just add a few DS earth tones

Very pretty colors. I have a large set of them. A mistake for me since I got carried away just because I loved the Vermillion. Then attempting to paint with just the Sennelier alone, a large floral, I found that I didn't enjoy working with them much and I was using my trusted Arches 100% cotton rag paper. I ended up using my Schmincke half way through the painting. LOL! I have all those paints I don't really like. I love my large tube of PY153 though. Its much cooler than other brands and so transparent. Unfortunately the PY153 pigment has been discontinued. I have lots of M Graham too and it settles without streaks, unlike Sennelier. I found Sennelier to be too gummy and pale. Daniel Smith also has PR242.

Thanks so much for watching . I love your feedback . Its interesting hearing other artists opinions about things . Personally I really love the glow I was about to achieve with these paints when built up but I wouldn't want them to be my only paints . Nothing will ever replace my beloved M Graham. I am thinking of adding a few more colors too my sennelier collection but I dont think I want to get too carried away myself. The price seems pretty good on the really large tubes though .

Hey beautiful, love the video! I love the ultramarine blue, it's my favourite of all brands. Just a caution with the tubes, they don't set well for plein air but they are very beautiful and I love them for layering and painting in studio. The py3 wouldn't set on mine, but my others did I gave them 2-3 weeks to solidify lol. Love to you beautiful, have a terrific day and thank you for sharing your knowledge! 🌈🙏🌺

Thank you so much angie ! Love to you right back ! I've had these paints for a few weeks now and so far I am painting up a storm with them and really enjoying them. They do glaze well and require a bit more patience with building them up but once you do they have a glow that's almost unmatched. Truly beautiful and unique to my collection. I'll be sharing my review and artworks coming very soon. Also have you tried Qor ultramarine blue ? Because it is truly incredible and honestly impressed me quite a bit. The clarity and hue is just fantastic. Have a blessed day !

Which do you like better, m graham or sennelier?

    • @nicolemartinart5819
      @nicolemartinart5819  2 года назад +3

If i could only chose one , I'd chose MGraham . They have much more pigment but be aware they have a higher honey content then these so they are not travel friendly. M Graham is a studio paint only in my opinion.
