Great video. Thanks for making a live dig, real life, warts and all Legend video. Everybody is new to the Legend for sure and all of its features and characteristics. All I can say about FerroCheck is that it works really well for shallower steel bottle caps, other shallower steel trash and shallower iron. Like you expressed the depth where I don't pay any attention to it is around 6" depending on the size of the target so like 3 to 4 depth markings on the depth meter. Just like you and like it says in the manual, I have found that 1 or 2 occassional bars showing up on the ferrous side does not mean the target is ferrous. More than 2 bars on a target that isn't very deep with plenty of iron audio......I will probably change swing direction briefly, use a bigger swing so the edge of the coil hits the target and re-check. Steel bottle caps have been easy to identify for me so far. Like you, I have spent some time on each hunt to deliberately dig what the Legend was telling me was a likely steel bottle cap. So far it has been 100% right when it indicated a mixed steel alloy target. I think I have dug 3 really rusty bottle caps that did not give enough information so either I missed the "tells", didn't investigate enough or those steel bottle caps fooled the Legend somehow. The FerroCheck bar graph also does double duty as the onboard pinpoint bar graph. I guess Nokta Makro will use that same graph for the mineralization meter. Maybe when the ground balance button is pressed it will activate the mineralization meter?? I am not surprised that you dug those US nickels. The Legend has 10 more VDI's than the Equinox and N/M put them in the low to mid conductor non-ferrous range and there aren't too many aluminum trash targets overlapping into the nickel target IDs except for those pesky aluminum pop/beer can freshness seals that sometimes come off with pull tabs, the round aluminum freshness seals in some plastic bottle caps and some can slaw so far.
Started out as a ferro check test and turned into fun digging coins. Good hunt, glad I have the legend and I cant wait to put it to the test. I'm a nox 800 user also.
Great informative video, thank you very much. I will continue to watch your videos soon. I was wondering on how do you feel about british relics and coins. I have found a couple of hammered coins including a Charles 1st civil war coin.
I went out detecting with my legend yesterday after watching your video. Thanks to you I found a V Nickel by focusing on the numbers you were hitting. And this was on ground that I thought I emptied.
Deep small iron doesn't always show on the ferrous check and I'm finding you can get a mixed signal when you have a ferrous and non ferrous target in the same hole as I get better at understanding the legend it's proving to be my go-to machine, my AT Max & Nox are languishing in the cupboard. Great video thanks.
You need a piece of angle iron on the back of your shovel neck, I’ve had it done to both of my Samson shovels and it’s been nice! Make sure whoever welds it on, keep the welding temp as low as possible, tiny short welds to reduce the heat messing up the temper of the metal.
Just watched the video , wondering now a year later. Do you feel it ls pretty accurate ? My hubby says dig all solid beeps but I’m haven’t been digging solid beeps with the ferrous checker being lit up more than 2 bars. What do you think ? I learned from this video though nickels are truly 24-26 .
once you get past 3 inches or so, its anyone's guess. I honestly don't even pay attention to it anymore. If its repeatable and the numbers don't jump too much I dig it.
I just got a legend. I'm going underwater detecting tomorrow 👍It seems awesome. I haven't used it much but I found a penny surrounded by nails and it only gave me a good tone. My GTP 1350 wasn't nearly as good.
Two things I saw you address in your video that I have also noticed using my legend. One, smaller aluminum and foil (34 vdi and below) usually show at least one bar in ferro check. Secondly, I have also found many things in areas that I also thought were hunted out with my equinox. I attribute that to the vdi in the legend being a little jumpy. With equinox it is to exact if you will, and makes the user to comfortable in not digging out of the ordinary vdis. When in fact it would have been a good target.
John they added a mineralization feature read out using the same Fero check bar you see on the main screen. You can choose which one you want to use. Other than that, they did not do anything to Ferro check that I'm seeing from the update.
Nice hunt. Think the Legend for the most part is underestimated. But it's definitely legit. I got about 20 hours on mine. And I'm liking what I see. As far as the ferrous check I don't use it it.
It is definitely a great machine for the money. I enjoy swinging it more than the Equinox but I still feel the Nox has a slight edge but with new updates coming for the Legend that could all change.
I love my Legend! Still learning it but I have seen that the legend does avoid beeping when a target is truly iron. If there is some iron in the hole that could be a silver coin next to a Rusty can so I totally would dig those!
Cool vid I just ordered a Legend and was wondering wether or not the ferro bar was gimmicky or not. I’m glad it works but I’m with you, I don’t think it’s a feature that will determine wether or not I dig a target. The sound will still be the biggest factor paired with the VDI for me. Thanks for the vid
That is a lot of walking around with 2 detectors and believe me, I wasn't close to the truck but I understand what you are saying. That would be a good comparison.
Great video, I really like the ferro check, I have yet to find a coin that shows any ferrous at all, I think it does keep me from digging some junk. I do like the legend all around.
I have always said the legend loves nickels. It was better on the 1.04 version though. What version are you using on your unit? I'm on 1.07 but none of them have been as good as the 1.04 version.
Looks like a very good machine, in its price point. I never have owned a Nokta product. Going to stick with the XPD2. Pulled more silver with it, than any other combined. Good vid.
Great video, Scott. I wouldn't bank on the Ferro Check feature on the Legend at this juncture, either. Maybe it will be better in the future. The Legend is sure a Nickel beast...The D2 seems pretty good in regards to iron. My Garrett Apex does pretty well on determining of the target has some iron component, too. No doubt the D2-9" is deeper than the Apex/Raider coil; the D2 goes deeper in my test garden, and in most places I've hunted with both. Keep Digging, Scott!
I like the iron tones better on the Simplex. They are trying to hard to copy the Equinox but agree for the price point and what you get its a good deal.
Great video on the Legend I own the Nox 800 and the Legend and both are good detectors, trying to learn both its crazy lol, Keep up the awesome work.👍🏻
Good video, though I don't see how FC was "working"...The NF bar was blown out and like 1 or 2 bars on the F side, great tone, and it was a bottle cap on those. Some, it jumped around between them strongly. So, is it working, because it seems it's not telling one a darn thing. It's random it seems. D2 seems to go one way or the other on most targets, plus you get a clue from the tone. IDK...I don't think it's equivalent to F2 on the Nox or base discrimination on the D2, and certainly not the D2's BCR. Looks like a gimmick still at this point. Needs work.
How does a wheat penny ring up lower than a Nickle than in the 50s I think nokta rushed this machine way to fast seeing so many issues then the catch all is well wait for the update. XP Deus 2 same story!
For the most part the Legend is a great machine for the money. I've enjoyed it for the most part and for its "many" issues I haven't experienced most of them but I have updated when they come out with updates and the machine has tightened up a bit. The XP D2 has been really solid for me especially with this last update. I look at it this way, for the machines you can't update you are stuck with what you get. At least you get the chance (from peer reviews) to make the machine the best it can be. The original Deus went through the same growing pain.
Just my opinion but when a super rusty bottle cap is hitting 90% non ferrous and 10% ferrous.....i would call that an epic failure of "ferrous check", not a passing grade......i wish I had you as a teacher in HS lol

Great informative video, thank you very much. I will continue to watch your videos soon. I was wondering on how do you feel about british relics and coins. I have found a couple of hammered coins including a Charles 1st civil war coin.
I wish I had some of that experience but I've only found U.S coins.

You are welcome. Thank you for watching!
My Legend is arriving today, so I appreciate this video to help me get started with it. Cheers from Bridgeport, Connecticut!
Thanks and make sure you update it right away. Version 1.09 is the big game changer for that machine.

Great video, you're the hero we need in the metal detecting community, but not the one we deserve!
Thanks... you have me thinking hard about the one we don't deserve LOL I just try and keep it real without all the drama. :-)

Ordered a Legend based on your videos......Thanks.
Good for you Dan. I hope you gave my friends at Fort Bedford a chance to earn you business. If not, thats ok. I just try to help them out where I can.
Thanks for another great video, I sure hope the Ferro Check gets figured out in future updates. But its spotty for sure for me
Thanks! I'm sure they will in later updates.
Legend seems to be a good buy for the money Scott..Keep up the good work..
Thanks 👍

Make sure you get the updates because it will turn the ferro check into something more useful ;-)
You definitely put in the time to understand your detectors Scott. Thanks for another informative video!
My pleasure Jerry thank you!
I would love to see you compare the Legend to the Nox on the same dig like the one you just did, find the target with the legend then try the Nox. 👍
That is a lot of walking around with 2 detectors and believe me, I wasn't close to the truck but I understand what you are saying. That would be a good comparison.
@@MentalMetal Scan with the Legend but keep the Nox close and only move the Nox after you have done an area 20yds X 20yds?

Very cool. Glad its working for you.
If in doubt, dig it out , Simple
Right on!

Stick with the D2... :-)
yep, D2 stands for double the price, which is not worth for me, just my opinion, good luck hunting
Super nice video...Thank you. I've had the Legend for about a month now. The Legend does grow on you, doesn't it?😂
It is a nice machine. I do like it.
Rocky! Where is Rocky? 😆 Thanks for another great video !
Good question! LOL Thanks for watching.

Nokta is crushing it between price point and performance. Tone is king, still waiting on the nautilus test 🤣

*_Speaking of Nokta- the 'Pointer' slays the Garrett Carrot for reliability and functions._*
Most of the others do too :-)
