Zugzwang is a German word which basically means, "It is your turn to move, and all of your moves are bad!" There is no "pass" or "skip a move" in chess, so sometimes having to move can lose the game! Zugzwang is a German word which translates to "compulsion to move."

In America folklore there was this trapper who got caught in his bear trap. He had to cut off his leg at the ankle to free himself from the trap. A bear then started moving his way and he couldn't run from it because you can't outrun a bear hopping on one leg. so he quickly cut the other leg off at the ankle, same level as the other leg, so he was able to run on his stumps quicker than he could hop on one leg.
He was able to avoid capture by the bear but he bled to death in his cabin. I have no idea what that has to do with this game but it just came to mind for some reason.

He went into really deep and time consuming thinks to bend a small disadvantage into a winning position while Fedoseef tried to move fast to keep time advantage. When they had reached move 40, Magnus had nearly used all of his time. But then they gained addititional time and after considering the situation, it was at that point Fedoseef resigned.
