Just got mine for 160 and it’s a steep learning curve coming from basic console controllers but once you adjust everything becomes butter and the precision is the rest of the lesson, good videos
I watched half of this and I'm sold. Obviously it's going to take time to get down, but the layout makes total sense. I'd be coming from pad too. Thanks for the video
From what I've gathered around, this is how the majority of the people think.. Hitbox = OMG it's so rigged! So easy to play it's cheap! BAN IT! Keyboard = OMG who plays on KEYBOARD!? It's so hard to play fighting games on keyboard! Who every plays on keyboard is amazing! ... put the up on the spacebar.. it's the same f*ckin thing..
I'm truly fascinated about the hitbox, hope you'll manage to get a great diffusion! I showed it to some beu enthusiasts on a forum and they were amazed.
i'm a keyboard user and i really hope i can get a stick with the dpad layout as the arrowkeys on a regular keyboard. this is amazing and perfect for kb user like me but not quite unfortunately
The system is clever but I wonder how comfortable it is with charge characters (guile) with down-up movements and also full circle movements (zangief, grapplers etc). I should try sometimes with the keyboard and the same layout to have some idea. Would be a great way to play on the go with the laptop (I use an arcade stick and it's not the best thing to carry around when traveling....).
i usually avoid charge characters on stick b/c i add wrong directions into the motion when i'm feeling pressured. it's really difficult to make that mistake with directional buttons. down-up, down-down, and super jump motions are trivial. 360 and 720 inputs are remarkably easy once you learn the trick. i'm sure it's not for everyone, but i very quickly abandoned an arcade stick i put a fair amount of time/money into.
circle movement is rly hard. Since with joystick or ps4 controller, you can only input 1 direction, when u make a circle u always get a perfect input. With input keys, however, u can easily skip one if you do it fast.(412369 can be pressed into 41369 for example, since you might press right before you release left, and the down will not be registered, in sfv the move won't come out). You will need much more time to achieve the same input speed for such characters compared to traditional fighting stick.
Im a pad player and really suck with a stick (no matter how long I've tried to get used to it) so was wondering will learning how to use one of these be easier than a stick?
I’m brand new to fighting games I’ve played them before very casually at friends house button mashing but I really want to get decent on fighting games I feel more comfortable on a keyboard compared to controller so I ordered a hit box since I’m coming in fresh
@PanzerousDragoon I would assume you hold the "jump" (up) button to go up... Jump and forward/back to go the direction you want to go, down to go down.
@BlueCrosser I was not stating your point i was making your point invalid because your point was that arcade machines shouldve used hitboxes since the beginning of time, and that wouldve made many arcade games unplayable. Arcades are not only made for fighting games, but thats something you dont seem to understand.
after I build my first custom stick, a hitbox is surely one of my next ones. Hitbox controllers are probably best for old-school 2d fighters. I would have to get myself used to making wave dashes on a hitbox though.
Sounds interesting.... Similar to how your left hand would land on a keyboard for a FPS or some MMO minus a key. ASD for left right and duck and space bar for jump.
Glad this is getting done. I've actually got quite the handle on it now, but it took awhile. Besides, maybe I'll learn a bit more! Keep up the video and the products, you guys.
@HitBoxes Mr. Wizard confirmed this as well. Official Hit Boxes are allowed at EVO 2011. Only wireless sticks/pads and dual shock 3/sixaxis are banned from evo.
@HitBoxes Hey guys I got a question and I'm hoping you can answer it. Do you make opposite button hitboxes for lefty players like me (where the buttons are flipped)? Anyway, this seems like the perfect controller for charge characters!
three minutes in the video and I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it. It's playing SF on a keyboard. I'll keep watching though, I'm a controller guy, yet this looks more interesting fightsticks.
@IAmKingHomey Its not invalid, Im talking about fighting games your talking about every arcade game ever. The first fighting game used a stick because thats what all the others games were using. It dosent mean that was the best choice. And I could care less about tournament play, I play for fun with my friends at home so this is perfect for me. The fact of the matter is the hitbox gives you way more precise control and you cant argue with that wether SBO uses them or not.
@HitBoxes Wow! Then you guys are amazing for going the extra mile to making your equipment tournament viable. You guys freaking rock then :) Completely changed my opinion here!
I grew up using a controller, I bought my first fight stick last Christmas, I'm still not used to, I'm an above average fighting game player, I just can't get used to the stick, Im accidentally always jumping or hitting down, will this hitbox really help me? I'm really looking to uograde from a controller, its 2013 the arcade scene is fading away, I think ppl like me will be glad this hitbox is on the market.
I don't have a hitbox arcade stick, but most likely if you're use to a controller, and transitioning to stick and/or hitbox it takes a while to get used to especially when getting used to the muscle memory. It took me a year to get used to a stick, like you I grew up with using pad. So the hitbox may or may not help you especially if you want to get better at a game.
imagine how lethal something like this would be in something like street fighter 3. We're talking one touch parries. Capcom vs SNK 2's k and p grooves would also apply.
So... what about 3D fighters like Tekken and Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive? Jump button is now used for stepping into the background. Just wondering if the Hit Box translates well to 3D fighters.
@Anfmethodjor This is the layout for directional buttons I've been using on my keyboard for years. Thats why I love playing fighting games on my PC. If you do give it a try, please bear with it until you master it. YOU WON'T REGRET IT
Man, I got one coming from PS5 pad and I suck so bad with it. You always hear about how they are really good but I don’t often hear about the learning curve lol. Unfortunately I’m playing at the lowest level. It’s weird because my ability inputs got better, like doing DP, Fireball, electrics etc, but everything else got worse. I get so mixed up when it comes to which button to jump, crouch, crouch block, forward or back jump. It’s rough
i usually plink short with my thumb on short and index on jab, i rest my palm on the stick box. it looks like the jumb button might get in the way. come to think of it, it looks like i would be accidentally pressing it alot while trying to double tap most buttons :(

@HitBoxes So these sticks don't have any mic ports on them? And if so, do you have any plans on adding them to them? I know its something small, but I do enjoy talking to people. If that's the case though, I will just purchase a wireless microphone.
I play SF on keyboard using the wasd scheme, never occured to me to use up as spacebar, even though thats the thing for PC games. Gonna boot up GGPO and test it out. Anyhoo, definately interested in the product provided it isn't banned
how do you do moves like fei longs kick special move that is diagonal half circle up diagonal (if that makes sense). now you have to push two buttons at the sme time than the quarter circle then two more buttons?
I've tried the tips on the video & its helped a lot. I can now do combos better in KOF XV. Even though its not the official Hitbox controller, I have equivalent version called Fightbox Arcade F8 Controller with custom KOF XV artwork on it. :) Its amazing & it also has SOCD cleaning with no lag at all. This tutorial works flawlessly with my current all button controller & I'm sure it will work with other ones like the SnackBox controller. :)

So what about all the "travel" time you are costing people with this stick by your right thumb constantly having to move down to jump and then S (or whatever you have set to the first white button on the second row)? You say yourself you use your right thumb most of the time so I imagine I would too (instead of "fixing" the problem by using my left thumb).

I tried this. I set up an emulator and my buttons just like this... I love the idea! I've executed more combo's on KoF than I ever have! It's fun too!
this hitbox is PERFECT for me. all this time spent playing mugen on a keyboard will now pay off lol
