Battlefield 1 The Runner Ending - Игры
Seriously probably the most heart wrenching ending in the entire game. Soon as that flare goes up and Zajdi Zajdi starts playing, I seriously started to tear up. People might think you're crazy for obsessing over video games and whatnot, but sometimes even movies can't match the feelings you get while playing games. Even though the Runner was short, you still felt so connected to a fictional character that you can't help but get emotional. Literally my favorite line in the entire campaign is "Good kid." and with Bishop saying that with that beautiful music playing... Outstanding. DICE completely outdid themselves and I appreciate absolutely everything that they did with this game from the stories to the multiplayer. Hats off to you, DICE. Thank you.
You can't be more accurate my friend
Hunter Johnson I would say the Italian story was more heart wrenching trying to find your brother. This one was without a doubt emotional as well.
Joshua Faley i can see where you come from but you have to admit it is hard to get emotional for a characters brother when you don't know anything about him or don't hear him talk. But if you were to play this song with it I bet it would be a tie.
Watch the movie Gallipoli. Two Australians fighting in the exact same area, both are runners, one gets put on the front line the other tries to stop the last assault, but the one on the front line has to attack and the ending frame of the movie is the front line australian getting shot in the heart, quite a tear jerker. I'm pretty sure that this mission is based off of it.

I can only imagine what the kid thought when the ships starter to fire on the fort
The kid probably had to fight again in WWII...
The kid is based on a real life soldier who got intoxicated by gaz and died...
Istilluse Zune Maybe. He was probably too old to be drafted in ww2 though.
If I had to guess, he was around 16 or 17 when he conscripted, and since the Gallipoli campaign was in 1915, he would be around 40 to 41 years old on the cusp of World War II.
Probably young enough to conscript, but not enough to get drafted.
But this is all considering he wasn’t KIA either during the rest of the Gallipoli campaign or during a later campaign.
beavis Nah. WW2 happened like, 10 years after. Probably not.
Gallipoli is a particularly fascinating campaign, as Australia/NZ and Turkey previously had no interaction, and no problem with one another. Both sides were forced against each other by the nature of the war, a fact which was recognised by both sides and expressed with mutual respect, and at times even compassion.
Commander W Birdwood: "The Turkish Soldier will give his life for his country without hesitation. He is a tough and brave soldier, but when a cease fire is called he is gentle and humane.
Ataturk: "You are now living in the soil of a friendly country. Therefor rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie"
I personally would have been offended if DICE represented the Turkish as bastards in the game, I believe DICE have outdone themselves, this game is brilliant.
Norman Geinsburough I agree it was slightly one-sided. They certainly could have had axis missions, as ww1 was less of a moral war then say ww2 was. Despite this, the game did emphasise the humanity on both sides of the conflict, and I don't believe the game tried to emote any animosity from the player towards the axis powers.
we are today live Turkey owing to Turkish soldiers... wars not innocent but we are should respect for death all soldiers Anzacs, Turks, Kurds. We are shouldnt hold a grudge Anzac soldiers because they are was soldiers and They were doing their duties... We are Brothers all humans.
#Respect from Turkey Republic
Jiro Horikoshi yes world peace to Australia and turkey
DICE made the game incredibly one sided There is not a single campaign mission where you play as ottomans or germans and they just added a scene where ottomans are getting killed by an anzac sniper but in reality turkish and anzac soldiers were playing games like shooting the shovels in the night while digging trenches. Even today there is a huge cemetry for soldiers of both sides in gallipoli with a huge statue nearby it named "çanakkale anıtı"
Norman Geinsburough No, they didn't. In Storm of Steel, you see many Germans crying, and one German just walking in a straight line, probably affected by PTSD. Also, at the end, a German soldier and a Harlem Hellfighter point guns at each other but eventually lower them.
when I played this story I noticed that the character building was much better than ones like Avanti Sovoia. We didn't really get to know Mateo
kind of also makes it sadder though, since we don't even have a chance to know him and he dies
Donald Anderson an australian song would ruin the mood as there's usually a lot of singing involved, even ones that are about war like for example "I was only 19". Turkish music wouldn't have worked either IMO. As an aussie who's listened to both it would be nice to have one from either country to fit the background but I'm afraid it doesn't exist in a original form
Yeah he just kind of kept repeating his name over and over again to sort of force a bond but I really just enjoyed the tank suit
Yeah it’s because most of all the soldiers in ww1 were forgotten
Civil blue Taylor bruh read the room would ya?
"Good kid."
:)
Call me Marlin I'm a stand up kind of guy!
That line hit me hard, made me shed in tears, seeing as he was my favorite character in that game😭😭
As a Turk, I would like to say that I am so proud to have an amazing enemy in that war. You lads fought beatufilly. I have no hard feelings to those who died in that brutal war. There was no bad side in that war. Just heros. Hero's who died for their homeland. Hero's who fought for their own country. If your grandfather fought in that war and died, then dont feel bad. They are in peace. They are heros. They are in a friendly countries soil. I love you Australians. It was an honor to fight you.
so this is not like nazis do we are not kicked because they are armenian we just had to do this

"You're Australian, we're impossible to kill." (Frederick Bishop)
"I guess so" (Jack Foster)
"Unless, not a kiwi, are you?" (Frederick Bishop)
This war story should have been made into a longer campaign on its own, the character and plot development was outstanding. When watching the end, it doesn’t even feel like a game anymore it feels like you’re watching the end of a well made movie based on the events that happened in WW1.
right? my only problem with War Stories is they are all too short! A fleshed out kid who has to see the horrors of war and the protective "father" figure to the kid would make for a wonderful story.
Why ? Gallipoli was a failure! They tried to open a 3rd front but failed
Whenever I hear stories about Gallipoli I think of one I heard about my great grandfather.
He was a part of the light horse during WW1. When the Gallipoli campaign was commenced, most of the Australian soldiers storming the beach were light horsemen. Of course, they couldn't bring their horses with them, the terrain and battle weren't suitable. So they drew straws and 1 in every 5 or 6 horsemen was to stay behind and tend to the horses.
My great grandfather drew a short straw and stayed behind. The rest of his battalion was killed at Gallipoli.
Every time I remember that story, I remember how lucky I am to be alive.
It wasn't just the Australians storming the beach, mate. Don't forget about us New Zealanders! You are right though.
@@romeongaei-tou4282 and us English as well, i have every bit of respect for the men who fought and lost their lives in the wars
Both sides didn't want to fight those bastard English commanders wanted you to attack i have no respect against English commanders
As a Turk, I must stress the fact that it was our homeland, which our heroes including my own great grandfather, fought very hard to defend it. It is kind of interesting to see this from the perspective of Anzacs and British. I personally do not have any hard feelings for Anzacs. This battle is so crucial for us in the sense that it encouraged us to fight for our independence right after the end of WW1. I can't imagine how bitter some officers felt back then after Istanbul was invaded by western powers. They defeated the biggest navy of the time, yet were unable to avoid the invasion after that. What I feel sad for is that, many of those who have fallen there were really kids, like 14, 15 year old kids. An entire class of one high school back then volunteered to fight there and one guy loses all of his classmates. He sees them dying. Imagine going through something like this. Our generation haven't suffered one tenth of what that generation, Turk or Anzac, suffered back there. Maybe the only good thing that came out of this was that Turks and Anzacs share a piece of common history. I also think that they should have pointed out to Atatürk's message about peace; that Johhnys & Mehmets have become brothers and they are sleeping side by side. Today is the anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic. Hail to all the heroes who have fallen there, may their souls rest in peace.
Massive respect to you from an Aussie mate :)
Cagdas Dönmez while mentioning the great Atatürk, respected by most of the world, remember how Erdogan is destroying everything Atatürk stood for: secularism, equality, peace, freedom.
beriethebear You are so damn right. How a great and inspiring man he was! Words are simply not enough to describe what Atatürk did for us, the Turkish nation. He was a man of true wisdom and strength. Seeing the actual government and how they are destroying our beautiful country, it just breaks my heart. Actually they are now doing what British imperialism were not able accomplish back then. Every great nation had been through tough times in the history and now it looks like we have to endure the hard times ahead of us and make important lessons out of it.
Cagdas Dönmez I'm Belgian, in my town there are a lot of migrants from Turkey. Most of them hail Erdogan. But 1,5 year ago I visited South-Turkey and our guides told us they hated most of the migrants lol :)
Cagdas Dönmez I'd like to visit Istanbul one day, but not while this dictator shuts everyone's mouth and emprisons them. 😢

Hell yeah….
105 years ago today these poor men made the ultimate sacrifice in a war that took far to many. As an Australian I cannot thank them enough for risking their lives. No matter what country you're from you should appreciate and be proud of the soldiers who fought and died.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We Will Remember Them."
True Sir and we are always be thankful for all the soldiers have done for their country for their world. I'll always respect them and Salute them. Thank you
Yhe sad part is that some of them was only 16 - 20
@@ruthlessgang1562 Yes its terrible to think about isn't it. Teenagers these days (me just coming out of that phase as well) are very problematic and think that they have it rough. But these soldiers are the heroes that should always be remembered as the greatest and strongest bunch.

There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours... Chills were running along all over my body when I heard that song and then tears started coming out, can't believe battlefield actually made me cry out of every game it was battlefield, truly outstanding.
Prototype NinjaZ play valiant hearts. the only game that made me cry
Hugh Mungus yeah, I got the game just never had the time to actually play it
Prototype NinjaZ do it bro its great

Prototype NinjaZ do you know the name of the song??
Let's not forget the sacrifices Turkish troops have made. It was not only the Anzacs, Irish and English soldiers that died. Many a Turkish sons have lost their lives to make the Republic that's standing today possible. My heart goes to all the soldier that fought in that campaign; no matter their ethnicity.
Is this an insult Turkish ?
@troll oh ok then
French were there and there were Arab soldiers in the Ottoman Army.
0:17 how I sum up my BF1 Multiplayer experience.
Even if you play very well, you cannot beat that soldier.

The runner died a happy man
It took DICE to make this game and really open up the harsh reality of WWI, the casualties, and just destruction all caused by war, thank you DICE, because of you guys i cried and also passed my history class c:
Rip our boys Matteo Townsend and Bishop

Finch and Prichard
I wonder what Foster was thinking when he shot up that flare and the cannons started their barrage.
Crying a damn river
Let’s all admit, this single line “Good Kid”, has to be the single most emotional line of the entire game. I was in so much shock, I couldn’t even cry as much as I wanted to. I just wanted to know that bishop was gonna be ok. At least “the kid”, or Jack Foster is safe. Maybe he too cried.
I was so damn happy when I heard the ANZACs were gonna be in BF1, it's about time our boys got some recognition on the world stage.
Wish the Canadian Forces and Vimy Ridge would be recognized. ;(
Don't worry, Canada is the best squad in the Verdun game :)
Same here man.
Taylor Riley yea...romania sadly wasnt
Prehistoric Terminator I know :( and Canada deployed over 100,000 troops at Juno Beach on D-Day in WW2. You don’t hear much about that in history class here in the US. That’s really when Canada started to gain their independence too. A defining moment for them. Shoutout to Canada🍁🇨🇦
I’m a descendant of an Anzac who fight in Gallipoli and survived it this is just emotional considering this shows how many lives were taken during the battle but I respect both Anzac and Turks and may every one who died on that beach Rest In Peace.

This is the best story ending of a game that I have ever played. The ending song Zajdi Zajdi makes it even more classic and emotional. Dice seriously knows how to make emotionally attached to a fictional character.
I cry every time i listen to this. I can't explain the attachment to this charcter although it is not real.!!
Actually Frederick Bishop was a real person, however they did die during World War 2 sadly...
It has links to a real story
All of the stories were great but... this one made me drown in tears.
“Good Kid.”
No matter what after 3 years since i played that game the ending brings me on the verge of tears every fucking time.
this game is a masterpiece.
This was the last AAA title I ever played that felt like a full, finished product. Awesome campaing, awesome multiplayer, and best of all, the soundtrack. This game is a master piece and sadly, I don't think we might get anything close to it any time soon. Love this game dude
I’m REALLY late, but DICE really outdid themselves in this game.

I just love that he gave the flare to signal “he was safe and I’ll be on my way back” but in reality it was to signal the artillery on him, he had to lie or the kid probably wouldn’t do it 🥺
This song is so beautiful.. I almost cried !
such a great ending. made me tear up. perfect timing of the flare, camara and song. its been a while since a game has done that.

talk about play on your heart stings the ending....the music cues in the hairs on the body raise...awesome scene
Even I have to fight against Ottoman, I really respect them.
What they did to save their nation in the war after ww1, it is as same as a legendary epic.
Yes the fact that they fought back and won is legendary. That’s what fighting for a purpose does to people.
They also murdered over a million Armenians, is that legendary too?

Hard to watch this without tearing up, such a beautifully bittersweet moment.
In my opinion, this isn’t just a good ending to a decent short story, this is one of the greatest moments ever in video game history. In just 40 minuets of gameplay this story becomes more deep and meaningful than most full games can ever hope to be. The meaning behind this and what these men went through is heart-wrenching, horrific, and in a way beautiful. I can’t even begin to describe how underestimated this short story and the BF1 campaign in general is. By far my favourite thing to play and truly reinforces the idea that video games are art.
I have to give DICE some credit on this one. As I really felt the intensity of war. That there is no good or bad side in war. All the soldiers were young and were seen as the lost generation. So sad..
That music is amazing! That voice and the way it works alongside the strings is beautiful!

this song is old traditional macedonian song. Zajdi Zajdi...
They didn't make the song. But its profect for the ending, glad they out it there
This is incredibly heartbreaking this end. I honestly cried so hard! I absolutely love the fact everything about this game is based on a true story. Its like you are pretty much playing as a soldier and they are showing you around this really happened in real life :( I often think about the war of history and I can't even imagine what it was like!
it just showed that back in the war nobody cared about the troops only wining the war Fredric bishop was a real person
Im crying, because this game made me realize how worst and painful a war can be! Let us all pray for always peace amd happiness 😢❤
Zajdi, zajdi, jasno sonce (Macedonian: Зајди, зајди, јасно сонце; "Set, Set, O Clear Sun") is a contemporary Macedonian folk song written and composed by Aleksandar Sarievski in the style of newly composed folk. Different versions of the song are sung in other neighbouring Balkan countries.
rest in peace fedrick you will be

this song makes me smile everytime
chills...that flare was probably the most beautiful thing he's seen and for a moment we ourselves saw it that way
By far best war story in Battlefield 1. Gameplay and Story wise. The ending is just perfect, as soon as I heard the music, and I saw the flare, it made me smile. And I was thinking the same thing as Bishop, "Good Kid."
DICE did a wonderful job with BF1's War Stories.
Not gonna lie, this scene hit me like a train. I was really expecting the kid to be the one to die.
Sends chills every time
Bro the combination of the music and where he said “good kid”. That shit killed me. The first game to ever make me cry
What a game…I cannot believe it stayed in my drawer for more than 5 years until one faithful night when I couldn’t sleep…the campaign mode…the stories…just wow…I don’t think there has been a game or movie that depicts the futility of war better…all those poor kids that never got old…!

since bishop was a runner the intended purpose of the flare was most likely to signify all clear for shelling to the dreadnoughts he may not have told foster this due to the fact that he intended to sacrifice himself either way and take as many enemies with him by keeping them in the area of the shelling

"Ottoman soldiers did not give up Gallipoli. And among them emerged experienced leaders who would later establish the Republic of Turkey..."

That was beautiful and really well made
I remember watching this ending in the moment... easily one of the most cinematic endings in a war game if you know the background of this mission in the context of the game. Damn it was so sad, but at the same time you felt relieved along with him that the young soldier made it back to the ship. There was for that moment such a fatherly feeling... I felt connected with the character. It’s a shame more developers can’t capture that kind of emotion in their games.
imagine the whole bf 1 campaign was about aussie and bishop than BOOM this ending;-;
Still makes me cry after all these years.
The only game that has made me cry. I still listen to the sound track to this day. It's been 5 years.

Still hurts so much to see... The most heart wrenching scene I've ever come across when playing ANY game... In my opinion
The song is a Macedonian folk song and was sung by Turkish singer Aliye Mutlu in the Battlefield 1 game.
The singer's ancestors date back to the Ottoman Empire. What a meaningful production. THANK YOU EA GAMES...
I wonder what the younger soldier thought when he heard the first shell volley fired.. was it like "wait, no"

As a Turk, this war story was my favorite (even if any of those Ottoman soldiers I killed in game could've been my great great grandfathers or their brothers/cousins!). The writing was a little weird, but I still liked it for the most part. All I really hated was how short it was, it would've been nicer if it had five or four chapters instead of three.
That ending REALLY gets me, though. The game doesn't portray any faction as the villain, more or so simply men following orders or defending their homeland in some cases. That's why I love BF1.
playing this whole game and the multiplayer actually makes me feel I'm really in world War 1 days
This broke me. I love it and I'm gonna watch it again

no one needs super powers to be a hero, you just need to be willing to give everything up so that others can live
