- The good man lets nothing stop him, and if the world doesn't give him the shirts he wants, then he can jolly well make them himself.
I am uploading another video about swords at the same time, to placate my subscribers who want to know about that sort of thing.
An earlier cut of this included far more detail about how to do the specific conversion I am using as an example, but I hacked this to the minimum, since (a) it is easy, (b) it seemed patronising, (c) I anticipate that almost no one will do this anyway.

Plot twist: there's a conveyor belt underneath and he only has 1 shirt
I would like to think he is moving it with his foot, but really it is someone behind the camera moving them.
I was trying to figure out this very thing...
master blob I think he truly has this many.
Haha I do too... But at first I thought it was a comedy bit. Then I was like, "Hmmm.... No, i think he actually owns all those..."

Instructions unclear. House is now dyed beige. Shirts still white
my beige dye turned white and my shirts have square collars.
I had white shirts and beige shirts in my closet, but the Beiges complained about the white shirts invading their safe space, so I dyed the white ones beige, then the old beige shirts complained that the new beige ones were racist for beige-facing, so I took the new ones out of the closet, but some of them said they now identify as blouses and demanded their own safe space, so I put them in the wife's closet, but the wife's blouses complained that the new arrivals weren't *real* blouses as the buttons were still on the right hand side, and by now several of the beiges were identifying as Robes of the Archmagi with +2 save vs spells, I so waxed sore pissed and threw the whole lot out and decided I was never going to get another shirt. Probably should've waited till spring.
Hold up a minute.. This isn't dailymotion..
Wait it isn't? Shit.
dyingsun23 Why make fun of trans people.... It makes you sound like a complete dick. People who have a different gender identity to the sex they were born with don't just decide to make their lives a million times harder by admitting to the world that they don't identify with the sex they're born with. Why punch down and mock people for something which they can't help/they already get so much grief for?
very rebellious, turning a formal dress shirt into a casual beige shirt, take that establishment.
XD
Actually, rounded collars used to be the norm on men's dress shirts but that was a LONG time ago. I'm thinking maybe 1930's, possibly even a bit before that. Since Lloyd is a history enthusiast, it doesn't surprise me that historical fashion trends might be something that would catch his eye during his research.
And then there were the days when shirt and collar were separate pieces.
OMFG I love that you buy new shirts, alter them and dye them beige that is fucking class.
if you cant buy, diy
for example, that's how im reading books in foreign languages - i find the import fees ridiculous, so i just find a pdf online, print and assemble them
Who the hell cares about the goddamn shirts?...
I want to know more about the sweaters, is that wool?
lol
How old are some of the jumpers?
The same half dozen ones are in every video.
SuperFunkmachine You only need a half dozen jumpers.
Just wash then Sunday or Monday and where then the other 6 days of the week.
SuperFunkmachine Implying you need to wash a good wool sweater, just dunk it in some cold water every year and you're good.
It's a poly-fiber blend, do you really like it?

I call that shade of beige "old electronics plastic piss yellow"
Estlib when you had a white phone case but it yellowed after long time in use
Apparently your old electronics are worth more if you've kept them out of the elements enough to retain their original white(ish) colour. There's a certain chemical reaction that turns them all piss yellow.
@@jessthehuman It happens when you leave old electronics exposed to sunlight or UV light - mostly with stuff like ABS plastic which has some chemicals inside of it that react with UV light to turn them Yellow

Indeed if theres is ONE thing I learned how to do in the army was to sew. I learned a lot of other things too, but there was a lot of sewing, especially since I started doing very sloppy sewing and my instructor would find every chance to rip the velcros off my uniform, until he was completely unable one day, no matter how much he tried, even trying to use his keys to find a weak spot to stsrt tearing yielded no result. Suffice to say I got much better at sewing, much more than at the beginning. He was not happy, and I did my best to hide my smile. The other instructors sure were enjoying themselves watching him fail too.
I just watched a 8,5 minute video about dyeing shirts beige.
Did you?! Can you remember the details? You should tell Lindy about it, he loves that kind of stuff.
Did someone already make a "50 shades of Beige" Joke? If not, well.
Have you got one, then?
Yup.
That. Was quality rambling. I have rambled in my time, but that, ladies and gentlemen, was rambling such as should receive awards. In no way am I being derisive, in fact, I found this video both entertaining and informative and I am slightly jealous of his ability to ramble. Well done. Never stop making these!
"You Couldn't Sew on a Button" is actually an insult I have heard spoken in anger.

I'm very impressed with your editing on this one. I've watched it about a dozen times trying to find the scene transition you used to avoid getting a washing machine full of soggy cardboard and failed.
It was all done with CGI.
Andrew Shanks When I first saw it I was wondering if it was edited, then just assumed that was how it was done because "thank goodness for modern chemistry."
Also you can stop washing machines mid-cycle.
Maybe that brand uses plastic inserts?
+Joshua Pearce no, M&S use cardboard
Presumably he set the washing machine to spin not wash.
It's official. I'll listen to Lloyd talk about almost anything.
Well, actually I will stay away from converting to the beige-rounded-collar cabal for now. But he did make a historical reference. This is about average signal-to-noise ratio for most histotainment programmes. Low for Loyd, but still worthwhile.
Lindybeige: can you give a reference for the napoleonic stich count?

Because lindybeige is a man that is capable of making even the most mundane subjects fucking fascinating.

What a sweet bloke. I have just realized how much of a twat I am. If I was in the army and the button zipped out of my shirt I would have been bare chested until I got home. Can't even make a proper coffee worth a fuck, I just use that 3 in 1 powder stuff. The damn floor is always dirty until I maybe spit on it and rub it with a sock. Lindybeige is such a man that he would have wiped that floor with a rug made of his underwear, hand sown 20spi, using a cleaner that he made by himself. He is such a man that he buys 3 new perfectly normal shirts and says... No. Bollocks. I don't like 'em. I want them dyed and made the way I want it. And then proceeds to spend the entire day tailoring the stuff around him the way he wants it.

I am thoroughly impressed that you take pride in your style, & learning that you are a DIY fashionista has raised you to the pinnacle of human existence in my eyes.
You have way too many beige shirts, meanwhile children in Africa don't have any beige shirts. They got aquamarine or red or some other horrible color for a shirt.
And what's worse is that they have pointed collars.
Okay... Here's a thing... We have a multitude of beige shirts in Ghana, West Africa. It's what happens to white in high iron dust environments. No matter how clean the wash everything goes towards beige. To solve this, my family (and quite a lot of families actually) dyed their whites with a pinch of aquamarine. It augments the iron red dust dye with a complimentary colour. Pardon being a kill joy...
... Also ... We did actually have lots of beige shirts ( not dust dyed) and beige trousers... and Khakis... a beige-moss like colour in some cases ... It's awesome!
beige shirt is a state of mind, not clothing
African kids are all wearing brown and covered in shit. Just like Hollywood medieval movies.

Oh shirt up.
As a professional seamstress this cheers me immensely. I love shirt-making and so does my husband, he's finally decided to learn the basics and it's awesome. I would like to point out that whoever that so called feminist was quite definitely not. She was a bigot calling herself a feminist. I'm terribly glad that majority of us feminists these days are quite definitely *not* that, otherwise it's not a philosophy that I'd be part of.
Staunchest feminist I ever knew was my Autistic Dad. He didn't give a fuck what gender you were so long as you were willing to learn, and treat people decently. He was very aware of how badly the women around him were treated right from his childhood in the early 1950's. He always taught my brother, younger sister and myself that we were all fundamentally equal, even if we enjoyed doing different things. It's a very simple idea, but it's unfortunately still a struggle.
I would have to argue that Lindybeinge calling being a tailor a "man's job" is as unfortunately as equally narrowminded as the woman in his story being surprised that a man can sew.
since watching this video a few years back, I have actually been making some of these shirts and have been wearing them rather frequently. So you have been proven to be somewhat of a fashion icon.

I suppose that would make it a true Tea-shirt!
(Dear Lord I should be shot for making that pun...)
Incredible! In year three my mother told me that soldiers darned their own socks and sewed on their own buttons. That was it! My first "manly" skill.
I was an army reservist (infantry and then a sapper) in the 80"s, and found sewing a useful skill - so many of my mates' uniforms looked awful because of their terrible stitching. Also found it useful on tents and elsewhere around camp, preserving rope, ...
Last year, my wife, the mother of my seven children, thought it hilarious when she discovered I was an eight year boy in the school sewing and knitting club, but I remember at the time (1973) that it must have been a skill the astronauts had , so I remain unshaken.
In a way, it is just another essential skill for making things, and builds character as it requires patience, perseverance and an acute attention to detail. Where else do young people acquire traits so easily, economically and usefully?
:)
This didn't tell me E V E R Y T H I N G that I wanted to know.

WHY these shirts lloyd, WHY?
Lloyd I demand you come back here and tell us WHY you chose to modify your shirts in this manner.

Although for some reason I think I should have a beard and be slightly older than 20 to wear a beige shirt with rounded collars.
He said he's been doing this for over 20 years so I think you're good. And you can always grow a beard! Unless you're female.

So Lindybeige means "I like lindy-hop and beige is my favourite colour"?
Dorjan24 basically.
The question is now, WHY did you start converting shirts? - Reenactment purposes, and then just started wearing them all the time? I could imagine myself doing this conversion for the sake of LARP costuming. Or actually just wear.
Because I wanted some plain beige shirts without the fancy pointy flip-down collars.

What do you mean? I listen to the radio and I'm only ... oh... right. :|
@@RavenCRTR late 40s or maybe 50?
A lot of people said to me the same - but about black shirts and black trousers.
Well, I have 8 black shirts and 8 black trousers and they're all the SAME. And people are complaining, because they see me in only 'one clothing', and when they find that I have so much same shirts and trousers, they're complaining, because they think I'm mad bastard.
***** You're right... but it's cosy... and... very universal! Good for every occasion! =D
***** You think wearing all black all the time is a bit odd? Try working at a toy store where the dresscode is all black. I've never been more depressed than when I was the bringer of financial death to strung out parents with whiny kids, clad in black and forced to smile as the last bit of spending money in a tired parents wallet was begrudgingly traded for worthless plastic that would be broken by weeks end. Needless to say, I'm a fan of beige now.
You're normally right, but I was located in a less than desirable part of town, in a tourist heavy community. It's always hard to see a struggling family making sacrifices for their children, especially when the kids don't seem to appreciate it. The darker side of things tend to overshadow the good sometimes, and it's hard for me to wear black now, as strange as it sounds. There's something about the "ramen and bread for dinner again" face that never really leaves you.
You, sir, have given me a nice chuckle.
I quite like your style, you look scholarly and respectable.

kind of ironic that a feminist thinks a man shouldnt sew
weapons and bushcraft , hence why she was considered an insult to feminists.
man haters think men are all of a stereotype that pushes all such things like cooking and sewing on women.
Seeing a man actually do such things thus destroys their world view, it's completely counter to everything they believe.
They may consider that men SHOULD do those things, but can't get it into their brains that they actually do, especially willingly and certainly not competently...
Phillip Tunstall To be honest, all the feminists that I know are lesbians who disregard men. I don't personally know any heterosexual woman that is a militant feminist, but maybe it is that my social circle is a little small (I'm talking about the modern feminism, not the old suffragists).
***** I've met militant feminists who were men, so conditioned to hate themselves, consider themselves worthless, and consider women as perfection, divine beings, that they could not see how idiotic their ideas are, and of course utterly incapable and unwilling to listen to any arguments as is typical of leftists worldwide..
jwenting You didn't meet any feminists then. Male or female. They were probably just delusional. Real feminists ask for socio-economic equality, not for a Matriachy.
It's these kinds of videos that truly show us how bonkers Lloyd is!
Not bonkers, just especially adept at being dapper.
Have you seen the video where he makes the case for humans needing a second thumb on each hand?
One of the top comments: "He has completely lost it."
Vito C He didn't say we needed it, we'd have millions of years of existance to disprove a need for it. He did say it would be beneficial and that is right.
Not "bonkers". I prefer the more British "determinedly eccentric".
This is is truly not the episode I wanted but the episode I needed! Appreciate the vignettes from Lindyshire :)
this is just a delightful bit of trivia on Lindybeige... but one question remains before I can rest easy: why?!? What is it about beige and in particular the rounded collar that makes you bother to do these "conversions"? What's wrong shirts that they require this ... circumsision?
listening to the radio may help when sewing shirts but listening to lindybeige sure helps when sanding the rust off my swords.
That's not a euphemism is it?

Jon Deal Never get pressured into someone you're not. I had the same issue. I like my style, if I liked yours, I'd be wearing it.
Yes, as a military member we were required to have a sewing kit with us in our deployment gear, there was a standard issue sewing kit we all had. M-16 over my shoulder, M-9 on my hip, needle and thread in hand fixing my uniform.
Kinda new to your channel but I've watched probably 50 of these by now, and this is definitely my favorite. Sure, the rants tell us how you _feel_ about things but this one I think has gone the deepest into the lindybeige rabit hole. But anyway, I can 100% identify with the sewing bit. Anyone who was/is into punk rock and its associated scene will know that there's actually quite a bit of sewing involved, and girls/women were always the most flabbergasted to learn that _you_ did that _yourself?!_

My favorite video you have made!

Too obvious...
Real men don't dye white shirts to make beige ones, they bleach brown shirts to make beige ones.
I am proudly one of the 7%, my good Sir. You are one of the most charmingly eccentric people on RUclips, and I find your voice to be rather soothing to listen to.
2:29 I find a strange satisfaction in considering that I am just about the opposite of most of Lindy's subscribers - I'm neither male nor an adult, don't really like axes and had no interest in medieval weaponry or weaponry in general ("had" because I guess I sort of do now, considering I watch quite a few of his weapons videos?) and yet I subscribe to and like this channel.
I am very tempted to make one of these shirts, but as I said 1. I'm not an adult, couldn't get the supplies and my dad doesn't want a beige shirt, and 2. I couldn't really do anything with it anyway.
Some time ago I posted a comment to one of your videos where I flagellated my ego and prostrated my pride in the hopes that you would find it pathetic enough to gratify me with an answer to my question. All I wanted to know was where you bought your sweaters. That's it.
So, some time later I check back and I see this insipid video talking about your popped collar shirts. You made an *entire video* about your *undershirts* but couldn't find one moment out of your routine to satiate me with a pity response. Your *shirts*!
I don't care about the *shirts*, I want to know where you get your *sweaters*! Specifically the nice one with the rounded pattern around the collar. That's it. I wanted one so that I could wear it, that people would think I might be worldly and have interesting hobbies and strong opinions about esoteric things. It's no longer winter and I couldn't wear one even if I had one. It would be too hot for that and I would look stupid. i bet you would still be wearing sweaters.
All I wanted to know was wear to buy that sweater.
I've never been more disappointed in another human being.
I am so terribly sorry. I don't know if I have a video about sweaters yet. This one, you see, was not really about my shirts, because all said and done, my shirts are of no consequence. It only becomes a video idea if I have something to say beyond myself. It's really about how chaps shouldn't shy away from converting clothes to be the way they want them to be.
Most of my sweaters I got as presents. Many were knitted very ably by my mother. One of the best is the Icelandic one - dark brown with the circular pattern going around the shoulders. I think that's probably the one you mean. My mother knitted that one from a pattern she bought.
+Bruce Houdini protip: learn how to knit sweaters!
+Bruce Houdini I have come to fancy knitted sweaters, similar in fashion to the ones Lloyd takes to wearing, and find several sensible options at the likes of Macy's or even Kohl's.
As a woman, I've fallen in love with circular yoke sweaters myself, and am contemplating learning how to make one (I already know how to knit).
The beauty of the internet is, these days you can learn all that completely free. Well, for the cost of materials.
The "problem" with sweaters is, they take up a lot of material. You could start with hats and socks, though.
thanks lloyd this is all i've ever wanted out of you
Only in England could you find someone this eccentric.
God bless.
Was there ever a more obvious call for merchandise. Tut tut Lindy, where's you're entrepreneurial spirit? Lost in your British apathy no doubt
I've encountered the flabbergasted mind blow several times myself. occasionally when i'm doing leatherworking or chainmail somewhere public, but your right, sewing tends to get the best reaction, somehow it just boggles peoples minds to see a large bearded biker looking fellow sitting down and sewing himself a shirt.
oh, one of my other favorites is when someone your with has a wardrobe malfunction of some sort, a small tear, or a button pop or something to that extent, and you can bust out your sewing kit (i'm rarely without one) and fix it for them on the spot. It really is a useful skill to have and I wish i'd learned it sooner, if I ever have children of my own I will definitely be teaching them how to sew from an early age.

Yep. Been there, done that. : P
Kept a tiny matchbox sized sewing kit in my old backpack because it had a habit of bursting at the seams. So when a pals shirt got caught on something and ripped open hilariously, I just told him to hand it over and started working on it in the middle of the college. Each got a fair share of looks. Perhaps for slightly different reasons.
Dye Hard 2 - Dye beige
How brilliant!!! What an Inspiration you are to mankind!!!!
Thought you might appreciate the fact that the average color of the universe is: Beige.
They call it cosmic latte to sound fancy, but it's beige.
"Cosmic latte: The average colour of the Universe is beige. The Universe may appear like a vast expanse of darkness but the average colour is actually beige, according to scientists. They studied the colour of light emitted by 200,000 galaxies to see what the final mix would be if the entire sky was smeared out."
+John Grant That's amazing XD
